  • Hey my Fellow Nurses heres a question that I received and she stated,
    "Hey there, I am having a hard time balancing school, life, and taking care of my self. Most of the time I am so in school mode that everything else goes to .... crap. My mother gets grumpy, my son is anxious and friends are irritated with me..any ideas would help, I have tried writing out a schedule, and that worked to a point. My adderral has me always doing 12 billion things at once. UGH its a pain. Please and thank you."

    The reason nursing programs are so intense is they need to weed out the lazy and the stupid. Nursing is hard work, and it's complicated. If you have somebody lazy and/or incompetent, they could end up killing somebody. All nurses remember the days of school where people flunked out every semester and by the time you graduated, only the best were left. This is because these are the only types of people that should be nurses...hard working, and intelligent people.

    Nursing student here! 👋🏼 you are absolutely right. Nursing program = no life for as long as that program lasts for that individual. But guess what?! It should! If your gonna be in this field you better be all in: heart, mind, and soul because bringing any type of knowledge deficit to the bedside is putting real lives at risk. Nursing school is academic boot camp and you better adjust accordingly or keep it movin.

      Is nursing school just a college that teaches nursing? I'm so fuckin confused.

    • @iiRAWRlover12
      @iiRAWRlover12 8 лет назад +3

      You usually have to do pre-reqs then you get into nursing school where you learn everything about nursing and if you pass you have to take a test called the nclex (which is like boards) and if you pass that you get your license and then you can work as a RN

    • @Jordan-pd8ir
      @Jordan-pd8ir 8 лет назад

      pre-reqs? I'm new to this stuff, just planning for future. Please explain :) Also, is a nursing school in a college?

    • @iiRAWRlover12
      @iiRAWRlover12 8 лет назад

      +Capn_Wreckz they're the classes you take before you start the actually nursing classes like biology anatomy chemistry etc. every school has different pre reqs they want you to finish. The school website you wanna go to should have most of the information

    • @Jordan-pd8ir
      @Jordan-pd8ir 8 лет назад

      wait whaattt... so how many years would I actually be in college if i want to get my bsn? I know it takes four years for the bsn but does that count the pre-reqs? everything is so confusing.

    Family should never come second, I missed my uncles bday and my grandmas bday cause I had to study and they never had another bday again. I missed their last birthdays cause of school and I regret it. My advice don't freak out so much, the more you stress about it the less energy put towards studying. Learn some zen and learn how be calm it is what it is give it your best if it's a B and that was your best then that needs to be enough. That A is not worth you missing your fam.

      Engineer, doctor, nursing, biochemist, etc...they face the same problem while going through school. If you can't do it then don't, but don't blame it on missing family time. You have the ability to use time management and you either don't know how to or choose not to. You have a nasty personality and this field is not for you just by your comment.

  • @bryanna7408
    @bryanna7408 9 лет назад +35

    Would have to disagree on the no life thing. I'm in a 15 month accelerated program and I still have time to relax and spend time on family. It's just time management and being organized. I know what I'll work on for the week when I plan to have things done,which is always early, I work until a certain point then take a short 15-30 minute break then get back at it. You can have a life and still go to Nursing school and be successful. But being organized and having a laid out schedule & sticking to it is the most important thing. When you get those days off do the bulk of your work. The days I have classes I'll focus on one class for that day. I'm done studying pretty early every night & don't stress out because I have a deadline to everything that needs to be done. I'll study my head to toe for 20 minutes everyday run it through my head all day, study for Patho & Pharm at the end of the week because that's the bulk of the info. I'm in my 3rd semester now so almost done. Just focus and keep a schedule.

      It's obvious you have no children or the empathy of being a parent. Good for you.

    • @bryanna7408
      @bryanna7408 9 лет назад +8

      Obviously nothing. My mother is a single parent and I pretty much raise my brother on my own since she's always working. I don't car if you have children or not don't give me that Pitty party crap. I have several classmates who are pregnant and who have give birth is this program which is one of the best in the country. You do what you have to do. Get organized. My stepmom is raising 2 toddlers and a teenager by herself while in school full time while my dad lives overseas. There is no excuse so move around with your negativity. If you want it bad enough you'll do what ever it takes. I do not have kids on my own so obviously I can't speak for people who do have to take care of their children alone. That might be your life but it's not mine so obviously I wouldn't have the same perspective that's just common sense. Take your sarcasm somewhere else. You choose the life you want so deal with yours and I'll continue to enjoy my life as a 22 year old in one of the best nursing programs in the country pursing my dream of becoming a nurse. You don't like your situation do something to change it end of story. Ooo I just do not have any tolerance for people try a have a Pitty party like they the only ones to ever have kids. My A&P professor moved to America after being disowned from her family, had no money and no car and a elementary school aged child. They lived off of cereal....literally....now her daughter is 15 with a degree volunteering at hospitals, and let's just say my professor has more cash then she knows what to do with. No excuses.

    I just completed my 2nd year fall semester and I can safely say that I haven’t had a love/sex life since I’ve started. There are plenty opportunities that I have but I just wouldn’t be able to put my best foot forward in a relationship for someone who deserves my time. It sucks but I’m always thinking about the end result and how awesome it will be to have my bachelors and license. I’ll have plenty of time to date properly when I’m done focusing so hard. :)

    Level three is definitely the hardest term for my program as well, I was pushed so hard this term, I received straight A's but wow, I was a zombie going into finals. It is all worth it though, at the point I'm at now I can look back and actually feel competent when dealing with patients and other healthcare professionals. You have to almost go into auto pilot and just do the work and study, while keeping your head down and not getting on the radar of the faculty as a "failing student" it is 100% worth it though, by the way Nurse Mendoza I've watched your videos as a Pre-Nursing Student, and now as an almost graduate nurse, and you have been accurate about 98% of the time lol, thanks for all your encouraging words.

    You are so correct. Going into my second year of nursing school officially as of today. You have no life. If you are going to be a serious student things have got to be put on the side. I'm 18 and God willing, I will be graduating in a month and a half from an LPN program. Nursing school is not for the weak. Plain and simple. It's challenging and it makes you reevaluate your life choices, but it's possible. If you want it bad enough, you'll make it happen. I cried for two weeks straight at the beginning of my program and my hair has fallen out due to stress (all jokes aside, it's terrifying), but I'm making it. God is too good.

    It's true I'm a mom of 3 and I explained to them I'm doing this for US and our future. I don't see them much now but as soon as I'm done it will be different. First semester was very hard for me, because learning how to juggle everything was no joke... You get a routine down that's half the battle.. If I can do it ,a single mother with 3 kids anyone can... Just depends how bad you want it

    Thank you so much for you advise and experience! I am not even in the program yet but have to spend hours studying each day and I have given up all of that like you said. You really truly find our whose there for you in the end. Also when you do get to spend time with family you don't take it for granted as much anymore. Thank you again! It's helping me have a heads up :)

    Thank you for this awesome encouraging video! I am in my first week on NP1 and I am so excited and nervous. I have already accepted the fact that I am basically "out of commission" for the next 2 years, but like you said, it will all be worth it when I have my RN license in my hand. Lucky for me, I have an amazing supportive husband. God bless!!! Now to find your blog...

    Man thank you for this! I’m currently enrolled in ADN program and in my 2nd semester as a full time student and working in the weekends as a dialysis pct.
    Besides working, all I literally do is study, study, study! It’s kinda hard sometimes when your co-workers invite you to go out and party, but you say no because you know better. It’s depressing sometimes not being able to party haha!
    But thank you for reminding us that we’re not alone, and to basically keep our eyes on the prize and not get distracted! Awesome video man!

    I love your videos, man! Nursing school for me personally has gotten easier as it's gone along, but it was mostly because at the beginning of classes I expected myself to be perfect and got really stressed out. I learned that tests aren't everything; you need to be able to apply the knowledge that's given to you and study for every test like it's the biggest one of your life. Don't psyche yourself out, though.

    Edwiin here, man I am or was a soccer player if or my university until my coach said edwiin you're missing too many practices. He understood what it took to be a nursing student. I was the only nursing major in the team. It hurt me to have to make the choice to leave the team and focus on my degree. Coming from a Mexican American familia made it even worse to give up soccer! So I like to watch your videos and they get me back on track emotionally . I'm pumped and ready to get my degree man!!

    Hello from Argentina! I am a nurse student and i truly identify with this topic of balancing both professional and personal life. With me being also a Red Cross volunteer is hard to do this, but not imposible. All my friends, my real friends wich are a few, and my family know that when it comes to chose, most of the times nurse school and red cross come first, but sometimes i like to make time for my loved ones. otherwise, there wouldn´t be a balance in life and we are above all humans. Both nurse school an red cross are part of my life, not my hole life. Or else what would happen is that i´d fill my life with one aspect of my life in detriment of the other, and that isn´t healthy. And an unhealthy nurse gives a bad example to its patients. So, i think it´s very important to have balance and to know your own limits so that you can work on them and take them into account so that you can provide the best care you can give to your patients. Nurse school is not easy, but has its reward: the patient welfare.

    Its tough but I know it will be well worth it in the end. if you do things socially have your girlfriend study with you. If someone helps you achieve goals, they truly care for you. There's a song by Tracy Lawrence "you find out who your friends are"; when you go thru nursing school you will find out who wants you to succeed.

    First off I love when you say "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me", so very very true. Second I really like our Bob Marley posters in the background. And last I really like what you said about having kids while in the program. I'm currently in an LPN program and I have a 13 and 2 yr old. I feel guilty sometimes when I have so much reading and studying to do cuz it takes away a lot of time from them. I try to remind myself that this all for them but its still a struggle.
