    I totally agree. Loki was by far the best part of this film. I loved the interaction between him and Thor. You got to see them just as brothers again, and it was nice. People were leaving the theater before the credits in my viewing too, and I was just thinking, "Where are you going? It's not over yet!" When will they learn?

    Chris Evans' cameo outshined Stan Lee's cameo. I think everyone expects a Stan Lee cameo so when the Chris Evans cameo happened it was brilliant. I also agree that Malekith was a very weak character which if a bummer because Christopher Eccelston is a brilliantly talented actor

    My only problem was the lack of character development for the Malekith the Accursed. I wish there were more explanation about his story.

      I think regardless of how much time they would have spent on Malekith, Loki would still have stolen the show. Pretty sure it was a conscious decision to make him less interesting because Marvel wants to use Loki even more.

    • @hunterkiller1440

      It would've been nice to have at least 5-10 minutes of Malekith's development.

      hunterkiller1440 The director said that, for time & budget reasons, over 30 mins were cut from the film.. with only 10 of those mins shown on the Blu-ray.
      Hopefully an extended cut will proceed soon .. I still love the movie.

    My favorite part is something Chris wished happened in The Avengers, where while Thor is trying to summon Mjolnir, he keeps portaling around the universe..
    AND MJOLNIR KEEPS TRYING TO FIND HIM!
    Just seeing Mjolnir have to keep changing direction was just hilarious

    The end end credits scene was nothing special but I can't believe 2/3rds of the theater left after it and I was like "seriously guys, you are leaving right away? Have you not seen any other marvel movie?" Thought it was a pretty good thor film. I just wished that giant ship fell on Kat Dennings (killer of comedy).

  • @31FilmTalk
    @31FilmTalk 11 лет назад +43

    7:15 umm, Thor saw straight through Loki's trickery when he went to the dungeon to free him. Thor falling for it at the end shows that Thor is very much controlled by his emotions, not that he falls for a trick every time.

    • @ralph2580
      @ralph2580 11 лет назад +7

      Excellent point. Didn't think about that. Could it be that maybe Thor knew he wouldn't be OK after their mother got killed? He was pretty emotional when he saw through Loki as well as his mother had just been killed. But that does raise an interesting point. I would love to see Loki get a redemption story. Thor speaking highly of him to Odin (Loki). Plus he saw Thor's emotion on him losing his brother again might bring him to the light side again. Question is what did Loki do to Odin. Man so much stuff.

    • @31FilmTalk
      @31FilmTalk 11 лет назад +5

      Good point about his mother. I dont know if it was just me, but Thor seemed a lot less emotional for his mother dying compared to Loki "dying", like he didnt care about his mother as much. Im not saying thats the case, it just looked that way to me.
      What this could be showing is Thor has trouble controlling his emotions. Seeing right through Loki in his cell was because he was so focused on his plan. At the end, he was torn between not becoming King, Jen, Loki's death, and so on.

    • @ralph2580
      @ralph2580 11 лет назад +2

      ***** Here is another question that I have been thinking about. In the end of Thor 2, Loki disguised as Odin told Thor he once said there will never be a wiser king than him. But when Thor said that he was talking to the real Odin. How did Loki know this? Could this be a mistake on the writing? Or maybe was this Lokis plan from the start? Also about the mother yes it seemed he was more hurt by Lokis death than Friggas. I think you are spot on about his emotions.

    • @31FilmTalk
      @31FilmTalk 11 лет назад +1

      Ralph Paula
      Good question. My only theory is we dont know where the real Odin is now. So maybe Loki interrogated Odin before impersonating him. This bit of dialogue would be weird to interrogate out of someone, but its the best Ive got heh.

  • @damnitstroubleman
    @damnitstroubleman 11 лет назад +5

    Yeah. . . when Loki cut off Thor's arm so easily with a dagger no bigger than my hello kitty letter opener, I knew it was a ruse to get closer to "Malackith".
    For the entire movie I was under the impression that Loki was the real villain. Malackith and his cabana boy, Kurse might have been forefront and current, but I got the vibe that Loki was the biggest threat, as usual.

  • @noval5119
    @noval5119 9 лет назад +15

    Loki is great. And I was so happy when he appears at the end. But what bothers me it´s that they lost so many time in the earth and is so boring, I wanna see Asgard and more about the relationship between Frigga, Odin, Loki and Thor. And Natalie Portman is a good actress but in these movies she is so blah… and Sif that is a more interesting character is brushed aside. So in resume I like Loki parts, love his interaction with his family, Tom Hiddleston is amazing and Malekith… he was an uninteresting weak villain and is a shame because for the little that I read in the comics the character gave to more.

  • @firetopman
    @firetopman 9 лет назад +5

    I watched that first battle, examined the fight choreography, and immediately had flashbacks of the 90's Hercules/Xena series. Villain: Generic motivation and lackluster presence. Odin: Where in the first one he had some redeeming traits, here he's ignorant, arrogant, hypocritical, unsympathetic, and he does nothing worthwhile. Frigga: Finally, a really kick-ass female character. Sif is overly aggressive, Jane's boring as hell, and Kat Dennings is the goofy side-kick. Frigga has a warm, nurturing nature and she had so much potential. They gave her all of 10 seconds of what could have been a really cool fight scene, and then quickly kill her off. Most importantly: EVERY SINGLE JOKE WAS BAD(except Loki's)

    I watched Thor: The Dark World yesterday, and for a while after seeing it. I had mixed feelings. I loved it, and felt like there were parts that could have been better. But after watching your review, you pretty much nailed it. I would say that it's better than most of the marvel movies, but still not perfect. Though most of it's flaws can be overlooked by how well it was, and how much Marvel/Disney invested into making it look so good!

    After watching several seasons of Face Off, one of my bigger disappointments with Thor 2 is with the Dark Elves. Instead of fancy make-up, we essentially get cookie cutter villains all wearing expressionless masks. It didn't remind me of a Star Trek episode, but more a cheaply done Dr. Who episode.

  • @manofsan
    @manofsan 11 лет назад +1

    I liked how Thor combines that almost Tolkein-esque fantasy with the superhero and sci-fi stuff.
    Remember, Loki is a God of Deceit and Illusion - so that illusion of Thor's severed hand was created by Loki, showing how his stratagems are key to the victory.
    I didn't get anything out of Portman or Denning. When you have a bunch of actors grandly spouting dialogue in Shakespearean accents, then Portman and Denning with their plain American accents just fall flat and look ditzy. Anybody else notice that? Never mix regular American accents with that lovely English Shakespearean stuff - just totally pales in comparison.

    I thought this movie had an awesome villain, but I have to agree with you that Loki was a better villain in the first one.
    I enjoyed the first one a lot more overall. But still thought this was a great sequel.

  • @manofsan

    Even before that scene revealing the disheveled Loki, we see the guard reporting to him that his mother has died, and then we see Loki quietly turn around, and then the furniture in his cell fly apart in his moment of quiet rage.
    I liked how Thor and Loki despite being bitter enemies are united by their desire to avenge their mother, the only bond between them. And then when Loki dies in Thor's arms, then we see Thor crying in pain - and you know both brothers still love one another. I was so glad to see Loki was alive at the end.
    A further note - so when that Asgardian scout came back from the shadow realm to report to Odin that he'd found a body, that really must have been Loki in disguise, falsely reporting his death. Didn't click for me at the time.

    Am I the only one that wants to see more of Thor with his helmet on? We only see him for a second with it on in the first film and in the comics he always has it on during battle. That's the only gripe I have with this movie which means it was pretty awesome. When Loki appeared to die my wife was like NO! But I knew better. There were lots of problems and things I did not like (basically exactly the ones you mentioned in your reviews), but damn, the Loki scenes were SO good. IMO, the best out of all the films he's been in. If only they had centered the film on Thor's relationship with Loki (and maybe the parents, Odin and Frigga - she deserved so much more development...)!

    • @aramis5301

      One scene that I absolutely loved and I think is really underrated: the "escaping Asgard in a spaceship" scene. Loki being the annoying little brother who is exasperated with Thor's attitude, and Thor just trying to ignore him... It was the first time, for me, that they truly seemed like siblings (then we have the same thing in Ragnarok with scenes like "Get Help", but the energy was already there in TDW).
      But there are SO many amazing Thor/Loki scenes in this (the prison scene is awesome, the confrontation they have about Frigga is incredible too).

    Chris Stuckmann - Do you think the extra credit scene from Guardians... hints that Loki will be somehow still involved with Thanos and be a player in the greater narrative? Sif and Volstagg were ordered to bring the ether to The Collector, presumably by Odin - who is in fact Loki.
    I felt the scene was not that great, but it could be they made sure to add that to give us rabid Loki-fans (aka 90% of the audience) some hope that there will at least be cameos by him in future movies.

    Odin told Loki the only reason he was alive was because of Frigga but that he would never see her again (such cruelty) so when Loki has that conversation in his cell with Frigga, was it just because he missed her so much? I know people hated Malekith but for me he was one of the best thing about the movie. Him and Kurse. I really enjoyed how the Dark elves looked and I like the black hole grenades and their technology. Although I did think in the beginning of the movie it kinda looked like a video game. But for me that wasn't such a bad thing

    I don't really like either Thor movies, but 2 is my favorite of the 2.

    I may be pointing out the obvious here, but at the end of Avengers 1 they had a little snippet of Thanos, but he was never reintroduced in any Marvel movies so far. I wonder if in Guardians of The Galaxy they reintroduce Thanos by having him steal these infinity stones from the collector to get his infinity gauntlet. I also hope that the Silver Surfer makes some sort of an appearance if Marvel does go this route.

    I kind of saw everything coming in this movie with the exception of Loki posing as Odin. I knew Loki was alive but I thought he would observe rather then take the throne

    Loki carries two Thor movies in a row. I wonder how Ragnarok will turn out? Honestly I feel like the Thor films are the weakest out of the MCU series.

      Krusiv I have to agree, it sucks because Thor and that whole universe is could be so awesome.

    At Jose V. Maybe it's just that not all of us feel like sitting through credits just to see some pointless extra scene. Probably it.

    I was underwhelmed.
    It relied alot on comedy which got annoying fast. The story was kind of... meh. And Darcy and the intern were awful.
    As for Loki does he HAVE to be in every Thir related movie? He was funny and all but again constant humor just takes me away from the movie. Just fangirl fuel.

    It was okay I thought Loki was awesome but Kat dennings could have been removed and no one could of told the difference. Fun movie but weak villain.

    I think they kept Loki dead long enough because if they did keep him dead to long you would be to focused on wetter they were stupid and kept him dead our if he made it out or maybe you would be focused on how he survived. I ,for one, thought that the time we did have enough time to compensate Loki's death and it was pretty surprising. Also (on a side note) I thankfully didn't read your spoiler article and was pretty supposed by Thor's hand bring cut off. Good movie all and all.

    Hey Chris, just wondered if you noticed how the Aether crystallized when Thor tried to destroy it? It raised an eyebrow when I saw it, that scene cemented the theory that The Aether was actually the Power gem & the tesseract was the Space Gem....HMMMM!

    • @AkumetsuVER4
      @AkumetsuVER4 11 лет назад

      As comics go, Aether = Power Gem, Tesseract = Infinity Cube and Space Gem =/= Tesseract. As the collector said in the mid credits; 1 down 5 to go. Time, Reality, Space, Mind and Soul is still out there.
