    The mimicking of Tom Hiddleston as Captain America and Chris Evans imitating Hiddleston and saying this suite is so tight etc. Marvelous. Loki seriously pissed-off was amazing as well. Even though they are not related to me Thor and Loke are like Blood Brothers.

    My favorite line:
    Thor: I really wish I could trust you brother. Loki: Trust my rage.

    Btw... Loki's Captain America costume was correct. It was the Avengers costume, not the WW costume, not the shield uniform.

    Erin pisses me off. She talks about how Zod didn't have any depth (when comparing with malakith), he totally had depth, you actually felt his pain and suffering, that's what made him such a good character!!

    • @Evil_Peter
      @Evil_Peter 10 лет назад

      I don't think he had much depth, but it's sort of the point. He's supposed to live for one single thing and that's one of the very few things they succeeded with when it comes to the Krypton storyline (much of it is contradictory). The problem with Zod is rather that they never let him succeed with anything at all. The bottom is reached when the genetically engineered soldier, and leader of the entire Krypton military, is getting absolutely dominated by a scientist in a fight.

    • @GripEnemy.
      @GripEnemy. 10 лет назад +3

      That fight with Jor-El was meant to show that Jor isn't a push over and can handle himself. You don't seem to have grasped the layers that Zod had. He wasn't just some linear villan like malakith was. I felt sorry for him. That's what made him soo good!

    • @Evil_Peter
      @Evil_Peter 10 лет назад

      IIAmGothamsReckoning I understand why it's done but it's really dumb since it not only ruins the build up of the main villain, it also significantly lessens the entire Krypton backstory.
      And you can be a shallow villain and still not only do things because you're evil. Zod wasn't evil, he was just made to do one single thing and that's to make sure Krypton lives on. That's all there is to him, he has no family, nothing else than he loves, etc. But as said, that doesn't make him bad. Zod was well acted, but as with the rest of the movie it was really poorly written. Worst flaws since Spider-Man 3 when it comes to big superhero movies.

    Not sure if anyone else mentioned this John but when Loki said to Thor that their mother would not be surprised that they were fighting he had a tear in his eye. That scene really was the most powerful moment of the film for me.

  • @XLairX

    Just a couple of thoughts... first of all, the Captain America outfit was from the Avengers. I made sure that was the case. Second of all, the Gaurdians of the Galaxy teaser had one purpose, and that was to establish that Marvel is planning on doing a full on Infinity Gauntlet story which is likely to be the third Avengers film. That was enough to send me batshite crazy at the end of the film. I don't think any other element of that brief scene should be criticized since it did exactly what it was supposed to do.
    Beyond that I agree with most of what was said. This film was great!f

    I agree with the loki being pissed thing but i dont agree that then a scene later after he gets suited up he is all of a sudden better and joking. I just cant see him getting over it that fast. But then again who is to say that was not all an illusion as well. The thing with the three and the love triangle not having more focus, they prob did not feel they could do more with it without taking away from the main story and hitting their time limit. With your complaint about the collector scene, It did not bother me because with an entire galaxy culture and what we know as "normal" is going to vary greatly. And with the three giving the cube over i initially thought the same "There is no way they would had that over to this weirdo" then i thought "maybe Odin "secretly Loki" told him to hand it over".

    Something they never brought up... Did Loki kill Odin... seriously... that is my biggest question at the end... it is never showed it and of course never talked about it... and John and Crew never mentioned that Loki possible killed or maybe imprisoned him with Hemdolm

  • @Setosama02

    My problem with this film was that it left me with a couple of questions.
    Question #1: Why are they in England? Never really stated why.
    Question #2: What happened with Odin at the end?
    Question #3: Where was shield during all of this commotion going on in England? They have jets in Russia and can track down the hulk in India, but giant dark elf ship attempting to wipe out the universe all together: aw hell no we ain't touchin' dat? what?! Winter Soldier better have a damn good explanation on what kept them occupied. -_-
    Question #4: (although I'm sure this will be answered in either Guardians of the Galaxy or Avengers 2) What's an infinity gem?!
    I agree with 8/10 for this movie.

    • @Setosama02
      @Setosama02 11 лет назад

      It is a legitimate question. Because it's not like these films are treated as if "The Avengers" didn't happen. No, these are up in your face about the fact that movie happened! SHIELD exists! WTF WERE THEY DOING? SITTING BACK WITH THEIR THUMBS UP THEIR ***ES WHILE SOMEBODY IS ATTEMPTING TO DESTROY ALL OF REALITY AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IS GETTING KIDNAPPED?! THAT DOESN'T ADD UP! That does NOT add up to ANYTHING that makes sense.
      It's a completely 100% legitimate question that everybody with a brain and is actually thinking with it is asking.

    • @Setosama02
      @Setosama02 11 лет назад

      You have a point, but that's a HUGE stretch. Even though they were hopelessly and hilariously outgunned in Thor, they still had presence in New Mexico when that went down. And they still ATTEMPTED to do something! AT LEAST have some form of presence there or try and aid Thor in stopping Malekith when he's trying to end everything.
      Iron Man... Shield was EVERYWHERE in the first 2 movies (Iron Man 2 they were up and in your face so much that they COMPLETELY stole the show and the movie became about Shield and not Iron Man!) Also, yeah, Tony diverted the nuke that would have obliterated NYC, but they'dve still tried to do something ESPECIALLY WHEN THEIR AVENGER DROPS OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH AND/OR PRESUMABLY DIES! They should be ALL over that!
      Yes they said they weren't currently tracking their whereabouts at the end of "The Avengers" but they're still monitoring the globe for potential threats, aren't they? OBVIOUSLY NOT! Because due to what we've seen in these last 2 movies SHIELD is either sleeping on the job or preoccupied with something! -_-
      Again, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" You'vea got somea 'splainin' ta do!

    • @eon001
      @eon001 11 лет назад +1

      If I was to guess, they are in England because they are chasing electromagnetic disturbance's and tears in space. Jane has been tracking Thor for 2 years and it's part of her job to research these kinds of disturbance's so I guess her tracking lead to traveling to England. It's a fair question, but some time film makers don't want to spoon feed the audience too much.
      Shields lack of presence may be be explained in The Winter Soldier. And tbh I don't think SHILED are as big as everyone thinks they are. They can't just pop up in moments notice to deal with immediate threats. I can see them being more of a clean up crew that deal with the aftermath of these events.

    Just saw it. It was a great movie. My only dissapointment is that it was not longer. It was just under 2 hours and i felt like it could have gone longer. Man Of Steel hit it right right at around 2.5 hours. The Dark World was great but went by so quick, lol. As far as the best fight scenes, MOS still takes the cake, hands down. But i came away thoroughly enjoying the film.

      Phillip Lehmkuhl Well, its funny because it is not very often i come out of a movie complaining that it was "too short", lol. But in this case, yeah, i agree. They could have easly thrown in another 15-20min of solid story that would made it feel even more complete. Dont get me wrong, i really liked Thor a lot. It just left me wanting more. And i guess at the end of the day, that is not such a bad thing and probably says a lot for the movie itself.

    You guys had to have known Loki was alive way before the end. When the foot soldier comes back to Asgard telling Odin that Loki was dead, it was clear that the foot soldier was actually Loki. Loki used the same guard/soldier form for a second when he was in the scene with Thor doing all the different transformations. Also, you should have noticed that the soldier made a sinister littlie smirk right after he talked with Odin. The third clue was a quick special effect that looked like Loki's magic right when the foot soldier first came on the scene in Svartalfheim.

    John, I liked the first Thor, but I have to ask ... WHY did you love that movie so much? Me personally, it's in my bottom three films for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Which IS NOT an insult, because even my least favorite film, Iron Man 2 was still enjoyable. I liked it, but I don't get why you adored it so much. I believe you said it was your second favorite film in the Universe, only behind The Avengers. Could you go a bit more in depth on your reasons for this?

    I think Loki being Odin was planned from the beginning. It was just the way of Hopkins acting - if you think back you can see it. Just the way Odin was sitting on the throne, I mean it is the iconic Lokiway of sitting on the throne, it was the first thing that crossed my mind. And btw it is Frigga not Freda or whatever. :)

    Well, it's the first time a superhero film calls my attention so much, i'm really interested in the story! and i have to say... i'm more interested in LOKI than in Thor, i mean, he's just amazing. If you think about it... Loki is briliant and i believe he can be a good hero (and this movie shows it, when he died) but... can Thor be a good villain ? i'm not sure of that...
    I want to know what happened with Odir... did Loki killed him or what?
    I don't know but if you check the scene when the messager tells Odir that they found Loki's body... the messenger kinda smiled... why would he smile when someone just died? i think he was Loki.
    Also the deal with the fact that Loki was indirectly responsible for Freda's death by telling him to take the stairs on the left it's interesting...
    And it's just me or Loki is a little interested in Jane... jsut a little, maybe to steal Thor's love but... what if Sif is ok with the idea of Loki stealing Thor's love so she could stay with Thor... (?)

  • @HallucinogenX
    @HallucinogenX 11 лет назад +2

    One of the major drawbacks of the movie is that there are no scenes between Jane and Sif.They could have extended the released if Jaime was injured but that was an essential element of the movie that was missing.
    I don't think Thor and Sif belong together.I never saw them as lovers,i always saw them as good childhood friends who grew up together.It makes perfect sense for her to falling love with him and for Thor to not return her feelings and for her to turn into a bitter person who resents Thor.Sif actually makes a better pair with Loki cuz she has this mean streak to her and they both have black hair and maybe they could be united in their hatred for Thor.
    I also didn't think Darcy was dumb.She was obviously very intelligent,she brought to Jane's attention,the anomaly while she was out on a date.It's weird to assume she's dumb because she's funny.I didn't think her humour was forced,she's a funny person she was being funny.
    Malekith was really dumbed down for this movie.He had a stupid motive and was so one dimensional and he is nothing more than a plot device.It's not like if he was a great villain he would've overshadowed the relationships in the movie.He was a generic villain who wanted to destroy the entire universe for no apparent reason.

    • @jRoy7
      @jRoy7 11 лет назад

      The Enchantress, if I have her name right, is the one who loved Thor but since it wasn't returned, got bitter and turned into a villain. Don't know that we'll ever see her in these movies, but she's in the animated films.

  • @Shaynthedragon
    @Shaynthedragon 11 лет назад

    I heard that one of the big aftershot-scenes was the one in the beginning were Loki was brought before Odin, because they had no scene between them both, and it explains the way Loki end up in his cell (for all the ones that hav'nt seen Avengers, whoever ... )
    I had the thought, that Loki really died and it wasn't an Illusion. Because, before he did - or not did *lol* - he told the cursed, that they may meet in the dead land (at least in the german version) So I thought, what if Loki really died at the end of Thor, And here again? If he found his way, back in the world of the living? That would give a new perspective over all of Lokis motivations and makes him fearless of dead, but not other things. I think it would be very original Marvel!
    I think they made Malekith to much in a human shape. I really liked him, because I'm a fan of Chris Eccleston, but for Malekiths straight plotline (destroy all, so it becomes dark again) I think they should made him more ancient overhuman in some way.
    I saw the dark world three times so far, and maybe I will go and see it one more. (Be nerd and proud). My favorite marvel movie so far!

    Regarding the 5000 year old army. Loki and Odin say that Asgardians live for 5000 years when talking to Thor about him and Jane. That's basically one lifetime compared to 50-60 human lifetimes. The change of generation brings advance in tech, new young bright minds etc... At least that's how I explain it...

    I might be really silly for this thought, but here is my remake for the post credit scene: I would have done away with the Thor/Jane kiss (because UGH, JANE), and had the Frost Puppy happily chasing birds as a bunch of British SHIELD/Interpol agents frantically chase it in pimped-out government cars. I would have had a group of higher-ups stationed to control the public watch after it in mute horror, before one of them says, "We're gonna have to call him." There would be this grim silence before the group collectively steps backward, leaving some hapless agent in the center, tacitly nominated. The guy would scowl at his relieved co-workers while he dials the phone. There would be another silence before he says, very (hilariously) reluctantly, "Sir, we have a bit of a situation..." It would then cut to Director Nick Fury, who would be this still statue of deafeningly quiet disapproval on the other end before saying, quite evenly (classic Sam Jackson), "That better not be YOUR ice dog I'm currently watching on BBC, agent."

    My favorite scene in the movie is at the beginning where Loki (In chains) is talking to Odin and Odin cuts Loki deep with his words when Loki says I'm paraphrasing...
    Loki: "My destiny is to rule...yada..yada.."
    ...and then Odin is like "No Loki, your destiny was to die an abandoned infant tossed out in the freezing cold by your birth father Laufrey."
    That was some heartbreaking stuff for both characters and showed how much Odin has given up on Loki.

    One thing I hope in the third film they deal with the fact that Loki was indirectly responsible for Freda's death by telling him to take the stairs on the left

    While I mostly agree that the Collector scene didn't really work, I do feel the need to say, in regards to the ''It makes no sense that the asgardians would give something so powerful/important to the collector!'' complaint, that we should remember that is Loki who's in charge and who likely told Sif and Volstagg to give to him (Which might support the theory that the Collector along with Loki is working for Thanos, even though I would prefer for the Collector and Thanos to be sort of rivals)

    seeing the Collector was cool, but the second I saw his pink assistant with all the giant displays behind her, I was half expecting one display to be the Face of Boe. That's my one complaint, that the Elders, for all their power, are generally rather goofy characters, with the Collector being Marvel's answer to Jean-Baptise Emanuel Zorg.

    So Much Better than IM3 Craptastic Plot twist Joke of the Century. All 3 films industrialist villains, wasted a Potential role for Mandarin in IM3 . Could"ve done better if Ben Kingsley was the Mandarin with 10 rings commanding his entire Extremis army and Aldrich Killian was the Puppet . Though the Final fight of Malekeith & Thor was Alright, Marvel has the tendency to add humour in their Fights,While DC/WB on the other hand, Has the Seriousness vibe & tension while i formally preferred. Thor 2 was overall an Amazing film

      Yeah, I was always expecting there to be a double twist so that The Mandarin really was the Mandarin all along, but it never came. The whole Trevor Slattery thing, was never backed up with actual facts, just things he himself said, so there was always room for him to have been bluffing the whole time. and then Killian went and said "I AM the Mandarin" or whatever, it ruined it :(

      AvatarIII Marvel and Shane Black could have easily amended the script in IM3 to keep both the 'Trevor Twist' and have a actual comic accurate Mandarin (After a fashion.)
      In the comics a key part of the Mandarin's origin is that he is bi-racial, he is the product of a marriage between a Chinese Diplomat and a woman of British aristocracy.
      All they had to do to have a real Mandarin was..
      A) Make Aldrich Killian British/Chinese, keep everything else the same as far as his motivation, recast with a actor of that ancestry or could pass for it. This allows Marvel to avoid the racial stereotypes of the character's past and "contemporizes" Mandarin without much effort.
      B) The Ten Rings (The actual rings not the organization) Mandarin's rings could have easily been tech he wore to regulate the Extremis in his system and perhaps the rings themselves could have been like Operating systems software for the Extremis that gave him extra abilities apart from the other extremis bad guys.
      ...but Marvel went another way.

    This movie in my perspective was better than Avengers. Great movie and hell I think I might just start buying some Thor graphic novels. Any suggestions? I agree, John, the dark elves did of remind me of the Romulans in Star Trek. There were only three people in the theater, so yeah it made the experienced a lot more enjoyable. The Collector scene remind me something from Farscape, and I'm wondering if Guardians of Galaxy is going to be like that.
    Jamie Alexander fighting did remind me of Wonder Woman, so yeah dammit WB get her for Wonder Woman.

    Hi John you and others said that you didn't know why Malekith wanted to destroy the nine realms. I thought that was pretty well explained. When Odin was giving Thor and Jane their little history lesson he was talking about how at one time the Dark Elves ruled the universe unopposed, and then the light came and after a long war they were defeated... that right there is reason enough. It was also mentioned that prior to the light the universe was dark... Malekith saw the light as a perversion, that the universe in it's pure, unaltered form was dark. Malekith wanted to return the universe to it original, purest form. One of Darkness where the Dark Elves would once again rule supreme. The explanation was pretty straight forward I thought.

    My Marvel phase 3 movie picks. I would go with 7 or 8 films this time around and I think it should be in this order.
    1. Antman (Only cause he already has been picked as the first one in the line up)
    2. Black Widow
    3. Incredible Hulk 2
    4. Black Panther
    5. Thor 3
    6. Nick Fury (As a past film like before he met the avengers)
    7. She-Hulk
    8. Avengers 3
    One of these films can be droped if needed but this is my line up.

    Great Review guys and gals. I loved this movie. I liked it better than Iron Man 3 and Man of Steel from this year. The Portrayal of Loki in this movie was so well done and I felt so bad when he "died". The Frigga fight scene against Malekith was amazing. I love how she referred to him as a creature and just beat his ass. The scene with Loki taking over the Throne at the end was amazing. I actually liked the post credit collector scene. The start of the Infinity Gauntlet story line is here. :) I'll be seeing this again soon. Keep up the good work. 9/10 for me.

    First off Odin/Loki was not a reshoot. Anthony Hopkins was doing signature Loki poses in that scene. The way he leaned away from his staff and when he sat down it was a dead giveaway! He leaned off to the side real casual and anyone who knows Loki in the comics knows that is his signature pose when he sits on the throne! Also Tom Hiddleston and Kevin Fiege have already stated in many interviews the main scene they added in the reshoots was Loki's trial in the beginning.

    I have to majorly agree with Schneep when it comes to his view on Makelith and the Dark Elves. I think when it comes to villains, a lot of people are just spending to much time just over thinking things, there are villains that are evil just for the sake of being evil and there ain't nothing wrong with that. That makes them more scarier for me, you can't reason or bargain with them, there just evil and you have to either fight or die. That's why Joker was effective, that's why Red Skull was effective, its why Makelith was effective. There are monsters even in real life that you just can't reason with.

      TheDrunkenHer0 The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 was a lot better than the Mandarin in the comics, who isn't a good villain, and yes the Mandarin did do twists like that in the comics, but no one realized it, especially all of the "Mandarin fans" who apparently read comics and love the character. Yes it would have been cool to see the ten rings in action, but the Mandarin in the comics is a generic stereotype with no memorable stories, The film improved on him.

    I saw this movie, wow such a weak movie.
    The main villain was not really a threat and his minions seemed like Power Ranger putties running round aimlessly.
    The scientist running round in his underpants just seemed weird, Portman, Darcy and her assistance were pointless within the movie. If they were removed from the movie there would not have been a change to the movie.
    The story just came across non convincing, the only redeeming quality was Loki and The Kursed who had an impact throughout the story. It's a shame, this movie was not good at all however i respect many people seemed to enjoy.

    I really didn't like the movie. 20 minutes in I was feeling the ''is this it?'' feel. The bad guy didn't present well at all. He felt like Darth Maul 2.0. So bad i was hoping for another bad guy. The plot they used to validate Jane Foster going to Valhalla was TERRIBLE. Sif looked so good and she didn't do anything in the movie. She is such an important character in Thor... Odin was really lackluster especially after his Wife died. The movie didn't make me care about Thor's mom's death one bit. Thor and loki's acting was good but it was surrounded by bad writing. The last 30 minutes or so of the movie tho was actualyl not bad, it helped so much with how bad it started for me.

      In Thor Odin tells Thor how he acted basically as a child and risked all out war between the Frost Giants and Asgard. Odin did the same thing here. Once the Queen dies he is willing to let Asgard fall fighting them in Asgard. So he is willing to let them come to his door and then go into all out war. Thor comes up with a plan with some thought so their roles reverse. Odin just wants to fight them in war in revenge while Thor has the best interest of his people in mind. That proves Odin is filed with grief and pain and just wants revenge.

      I really liked the movie overall, but I agree with your points. Something they don't talk about much in the review is that aside from being a bad ass for all of 5 seconds, there's little reason given to care about Frigga. The whole funeral scene seemed forced to me because I felt like they wanted the audience to care more for her than they did because she had so little screen time. But yes, the last 30 minutes really elevated the movie in my mind. Making the final fight so unconventional and fairly humorous took the movie from good to very good.

I also agree with John that the only reason that Loki survived was because of the Tom Hiddleston re-shoots a couple of months ago. I think that the original intent was for Loki to die and that after people started crying fowl when the possibility presented itself, that Kevin Feige changed his mind and re-shot the ending... Not that I'm complaining, because I love Tom Hiddleston! :)

    I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the hiccup in continuity with the Infinity Gauntlet? In the 1st Thor they blatantly show us the completed Infinity Gauntlet in Odin's treasure room when the frost giants break in. I do believe that the gauntlet went on tour with a bunch of other props from the 1st Thor. So, how is it already completed with all 6 gems in it in the 1st Thor & now Asgard only possesses 2 Infinity Gems, according to the mid credit scene, that need to be separated? Also, with what John pointed out about Odin's dialogue from part 1 to part 2, should we be worried that Marvel/Disney are going to take a page out of the X-Men continuity playbook & just ignore any conflicts & keep going without fixing it?

    I think I have to disagree on Malaketh. I thought he was trying do destroy the realms and bring them into darkness, because, as Odin said at the beginning, before the realms were created, it was all darkness, ruled by the Dark Evles..so he was trying to bring the universe back to a time when his people were in charge, right? Seems like a pretty believable motivation to me.

That is why DC try to make superhero movie more grounded. DC actually fail to do cross over Superman(Christopher Reeve) with Batman (Michael Keaton) and this makes DC far behind Marvel. Some notes:
    The girl from Two Broke Girls is only really there for comic relief and she takes it too far. Every scene she's in is just a witty comment.
    Jane is not respectful to Thors' GOD parents, or anyone else with authority.
    Odin doesn't have much of a presence for the All Father.
    I'm pretty sure the world engine did more destruction in one gravity blast than the dark elves did throughout there entire time on Earth.
    If the universe was under threat and that threat was revolving on Earth, why weren't the other avengers or Shield there?
    I didn't really feel the threat of the universe being covered by darkness.
    I thought the movie was better as a movie than a superhero movie.

    In the Comics the Collector is one of Thanos' main antagonists. Part of the reason why he "Collects" is because he had visions of a being that would be born who would go on to destroy the universe ( I.E. Thanos)
    It's the Collectors attempt to preserves elements races, artifacts, architecture etc of the universe.
