My favorite Toadies story is that Lisa, the bassist, was an Ewok extra in Return of the Jedi. She took her $800 payment and bought her first bass with it.

It was great! I was a little disappointed because the ticket said "RHCP, Toadies and special guest" and I totally wanted the opener to be Silverchair, who was touring with the Peppers on some of their dates. I like Spacehog and enjoyed their performance, but I looooooove Silverchair, especially the Frogstomp album. No regrets, though!

The more I listen to Rubberneck over the years, the more I appreciate the guitar tone on it. That intro to “Away” still raises the hairs on the back of my neck. So many brawny roaring growls outta those licks and leads on that album. Whether it’s Darrell’s playing, his gear, Sally, Tom, Howie or Andy Wallace the Maestro - or all of them combined - it’s pure rocket fuel. Just love it.

A P90 equiped guitar and a pushed Marshall valve amplifier is an incredible tone.

Rubberneck is one of my favorite albums of all time. There's not a bad song on it. I was fortunate to see them play a headlining gig in 1995 on the Rubberneck Tour in Columbus, Ohio @ Newport Music.Hall. They were so good. With all the great songs on it I was always surprised that Possum Kingdom was the only hit. Songs like Tyler and Backslider and I Burn are all much better than that one. I think every song on it is excellent. Away, I Come From The Water, Mister Love, etc... I can listen to it from first song to last and sing every word. That's rare in an album. As far as their albums after that, they never had one that touched Rubberneck, but they definitely had some other great songs. Dollskin was a great song and could have been a hit.

Mine was a headlining show. They played the whole Rubberneck album in it's entirety, in order. It was epic. The band that opened was called New Bomb Turks. I think they were a Columbus band though. Something great about a headlining show. Everyone was there to see Toadies and the crowd sang every word to every song.

Wow! Pleather didn't sell many copies at all!
I was lucky enough to find a sealed copy of it for $1 around 8 years ago, here in New Zealand 😁
    Pretty stoked to own it!

Far from one hit wonders .. they just quit getting support from stations and their label .. every album is good

I saw them at the Louisville Palace with Bush many moons ago and was sold. They blew Bush away. My friends and I were astounded. This band had been a personal favorite for years and it's a shame what was done to them. Heck I love that second album too. Thank you for doing this video. Excellent.

The band SolShifter actually consists of 3 Ex-Toadies including Lisa on bass, Charles Mooney on guitar and Matt Winchell on drums.
They play frequently in the Texas area.

I recently rediscovered the Toadies. I had Possum Kingdom on my playlist for years, and last year went out and listened to that whole album for the first time. It was pretty great. Downloaded Stars Above/Hell Below a few months ago and thought it was even better! In time I'll be making my way through the rest of their catalogue. It's a shame they weren't bigger, but the music business isn't just about being good... you have to have luck and timing as well.

Great history lesson, thank you for producing this! One small thing I noticed...The timeline might be a bit off on the mixing and producing as you refer to the foo fighters producer/ mixer. . Rubberneck was released in August of 1994 and foo fighters first album was recorded in October in 1994 after Rubberneck was already released. So the producers/ mixer (Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf) couldn't have worked on the foo fighters before the toadies but only after they worked with the toadies. I may be wrong but I believe Dave Grohl wrote and recorded all the songs of the first album on his own before working with anyone too so any producers would have likely just been mastering or polishing it up after the toadies album was released. Still great production and if I remember correctly the mixing on Possum Kingdom I believe was done by Andy Wallace who also mixed Nevermind. Not sure which he mixed first but I would guess Nevermind. I actually found the song possum kingdom because I was so enthralled with the mixing on Nevermind and wanted to see what else this guy did because it sounded perfect and appropriate and you can kind of feel the same tone on Possum Kingdom as you can on some of the songs on Nevermind.

Nice.. Abruptly ended but its spot on true.. I toured with these guys off an on through out almost a 20 yrs span.. Well and the burdenbros... Good flashback of memories... It was a good good life here in the Texas Rock N Roll Circut! None of the bands ever really gave a shit that much about what was outside of Texas as it was always big enuff its self for everyone.... Peace love and rock n roll

I'm from Odessa, Texas and played in a lot of bands there. When I wasn't working on original music we would always cover Toadies songs because I saw them so many times when I lived in Dallas (also lots of Reverend Horton Heat shows). My cousin lived in Breckenridge, right by Possum Kingdom, and it's a creepy lake. Lots of weird stuff there, along with the meth heads

I first saw The Toadies on T.V. on New Years Eve, it was a Battle Of The Bands contest. It was sponsored by Yamaha Instruments, hosted by John Wesley Harding, and a panel of judges that included X guitarist Billy Zoom and Christie McVie of Fleetwood Mac. The Toadies performed Mister Love, which would later appear on Rubberneck, and they appeared as a quintet. Roots rock reggae band The Tribulations won the contest, but unlike The Toadies who went Billboard , The Tribulations never went anywhere. I was very impressed with The Toadies, and satisfied that they finally broke through to a bigger audience!
