Door wise, ive added plastic "s" clips to the end of the door tab and clip it to the external guy line/guy point on the door edge for a more secure door.
I have just had the 2 solid arrive for myself and my daughter - we both use poles so looking forward to getting porch mode going on our next adventure :) it’s so spacious for the two of us as well - can both sit up and play cards comfortably, and can get changed easily without any weird manouvers. It’s an amazing tent. I love the magnets lol.
I take the clip that connects the inner to the fly off, the one closest the door, and after rolling up the door and using the magnet, I take the fly-inner clip and fasten it to the tie off point closest the door on the outside. It holds in any conditions.
in very high winds, if you're worried about the pole tip against the fly (tearing), turn the poles the other way and put the tip on the ground inside a half tennis ball to stop it sinking into the ground. in the harshest of winters i leave the inner at home all together too. I would like to see on this tent is the ability to set the fly up on a ridgeline (external peak attackment points) so if in a forrest you can do away with the poles for extra space. that would be mint. the structural integrity of the tent is the four corners, then the 2 peak guy outs, then the guy outs that are parallel to both sides of each peak (the peaks are the weak points (along with the corners)). the door guy outs are a structural integrity luxury. I would also like to see further guy out points on each corner (going up the seams) for further structural rigidity options (in winds).
Thankyou for the tips and very interesting comment, I'd love to see that versatility of setting the fly as a tarp in a woodland tbat would be amazing,I think the sturdiness of this tent is amazing I've been in 40mph plus winds and its stood up no bother which impressed me
Great demo re the options. The solid version is in the post at the moment so looking forward to trying it out. Would love to see Hannah’s thought bubbles though!
Great review. I've watched a few Durston videos and this was the best on setup and the different modes. I'm planning on buying an Xmid2 with the solid inner and Durston poles. More room and it weighs about half as much again but still a lot lighter than my Vango (whose poles broke in a gale this last weekend! 😞) I can't use trekking poles because I often camp for 2 or 3 nights in a single spot and need the poles while walking during the day. But the Durston poles look good and are lightweight.
@alangauld6079 thankyou so much really appreciate that comment, the durston tents are absolutely amazing and stormworthy I've had mine in 40mph winds in the lakes, and yeah the durston poles save alot of weight too they look good
Hi Josh, I just finished watching your brilliant video of your set up and review of your Durston X Mid 1 and you certainly got the perfect pitch. Nice job! Great video and review. You also mentioned your pet hate regarding the magnetic flap coming undone causing a big concern for the tent flap to possibly catch alight while cooking. I have a Durston X Mid 2 here in Perth, Australia and after watching your video I watched a X Mid 2 video and saw Chris D had a solution to your pet hate in his video. I know other comments have made great suggestions with pegs which would work also. Shout out to Hannah too! Hi Hannah. Durston X-Mid 2 Solid - First Wild Camp by Chris D ( 2 weeks ago)
Thankyou so much for watching really appreciate your comment really positive feedback, the durstons are great tents honestly I am so happy with it thankyou again
Ha! I was sure the magnets would be your issue :) Same single thing I complain about, just not strong enough :) - I'm going to replace one of them, on each side, with a more powerful one.
Great video, great to see the different ways of pitching it, I would go for the 2 person with the dog and don’t think it weights much more, maybe the 4 season one too, just a bit out of my budget at the moment but am seriously looking at a trekking pole tent, more than likely a Lanshan I think! Great info about the tent. Keep it up and can’t wait for that long walk!
@@JoshTyldesley yes, alot of money, guess you can see it as a long term investment. (Wat selling site?) I just got a lanshan 2 on AE for £93. Will see how it goes. Gud luk on your long distance walk.
@alanrobinson2229 exactly that it's an investment for me Alan, and I found mine on Facebook market place got quite lucky it was thr only one on there, also I love the lanshan 2 brilliant tents
Another great vid & review Josh...👊 I've heard a few others mention the magnet 🧲 door catch... Kinda innovative or gimmicky...!??🤔 Either way it doesn't seem to work too well if windy...🤣 Also, good points about safety if cooking...!😯🔥🧯🤯 Couple of bungee spring toggles maybe better... I'd defo like one, but can't afford & I've really got too many tents now😄, but my pride is still my LS2 with 4 & 3 season inners, it's a nice bit of kit...✔️💯 Best wishes...👍
Hi Kev the thing with these tents is the features or simple and most of them are really effective apart from this toggle, and honestly I love the lanshan tents I used the lanshan for nearly 2 years straight I absolutely love it thanks for watching mate 😊
Haha thanks stu,it is a great tent I'm so so glad I just took the plunge and bought it, I can't fault it other than the door toggle which is minor haha
Solution is to first hold the corner of the fabric of the door and pull it in the opposite direction of the peak which you are about to roll the door towards. Then start rolling from the absolute corner of the fabric exactly towards that peak, it will create a perfect roll, which is so tight that the wind can't catch it. It also means that there isn't extra loose fabric flapping at the bottom side of the roll (like it was in the video). Good luck, loved the video! Happy trail days!
@@JoshTyldesleyas an extra Solution you tie a short bungee cord in it’s middle To the guy out point just next to the magnet. Use the two short strings of bungee to lock the sling (with the magnet) with a single hitch between the two bungee endings. This is a more firm attachment and will keep the door open.
Thanks mate, honestly for some reason I struggle to transition or even buy a proper poled tent I just love how easy trekking pole shelters are thanks for watching

roll the door in, not out.
protects it from wind.
Why have I not thought of this? Haha thankyou
The deal about rolling out is that it catches water like a gutter and directs it down and away. Not had the pleasure of trying that out yet.
So simple and so effective 👍

Use a cloths peg, always carry one or two and holds any door open 👍

Why leave the inner home in harsh weather?
@@joeyt684 harsh cold weather - no bugs
tent pegs are best used going straight down. 90 degree angle. that looks like an amazing tent!

great video! I appreciate all the detail. Very informative!

They've addressed this issue by making stronger magnets now.
I use a peg or two on the doorflaps
I don't see the magnet as an issue - just use the vestibule that's away from the wind...

If you're willing to pay a 15 gram penalty, just bring 2 laundry clothes pins to quickly and easily tie up the rolled doors. Presto!

Oh Do you live around there do you?, and thanks mate really really appreciate your comment
Are these just survival tents?
Cant see there being much protection from the cold in that.
Plenty of protection in here mate, I've camped in minus 6 in it
There is also a version with less mesh on the inner.
A tent adds minimal warmth, it's used for protection against wind and rain/snow.
Warmth should be the job of your clothes and sleeping system.
Foldback clips. Problem solved. Cheap too.
up at Hartshead Pike, nice 1..I just bought an Xmid solid...beautifully engineered, and this is the best review and pitching vid I've seen
Good review until you started reading from the Durston website. I can do that on my own, thank you.
