DIY Leather Bag with Rolled Edges
We've been experimenting with rolled edges on small bags for a while to implement structure. For this bag, we used a rolled edge that we skived minimally to keep the full thickness of the leather (about 5oz) at the fold, creating a very strong opening that will keep it's shape with use.
This leather bag is small, meant to fit only the essentials - a phone, maybe a small wallet. We put a credit card slot on the outside with a strap closure featuring our sponsor Weaver Leather's button stud to allow for easy access. The leather we used is nice and flexible without being too soft, which worked great for that turned edge.
For the strap, we used a very simple loop and knot design that gives a very bohemian feel. It's also very easy to do, so you don't have to worry about the weight of additional buckles and hardware. Overall we've really enjoyed making this small leather bag and we're looking forward to making a second version with some changes to put into use!

It's lovely to see how the glue has a certain amount of open time. I love these music free, just working sounds, videos

Would love to see a video on how to select leather based on the project (ie thickness, type, etc). I previously wasted a bunch of money by selecting the wrong type.

Beautiful. Simple. Elegant. I can smell the hide. Ahh leather in the hands of a pro. Unlike ME that ruins even the simplest design....
    Thanx!

Some beginner questions I need help with:
What kind of adhesives do you recommend and for which jobs if you like multiple kinds.
What kind of adhisive strips are those? Are they only for specific jobs?
Do skiving cuts need to be 100% or is there wiggle room?
Do you ever finish your leather/seal, (sorry I have bad memory), and if so what products do you use to finish the fuzzy side /seal?
What do you use on the exposed edges of leather after it has been cut and the product is done being put together?
OH and what are you using to score/crease the leather to mark where the stitches will go?
I'd really appreciate your time and I'm sure many others would love to hear these answered as well.

He uses Weldwood contact cement which is available everywhere. Used that myself in the beginning but switched to waterbased Renia cement. No smell and for me more forgiving during assembly. The adhesive tape is 'double sided tape' which is very useful to assemble components not aligned to the edge. for scribing stitch lines get a nice set of dividers. I believe he uses Gum Tragacanth for edge burnishing. Good luck with this very addictive hobby/craft.

I think it's because it's "milled veg tan" so has the strength of veg but then the milling process makes it slightly softer

So please make a pattern. And preferably free.

У вас однотипные и часто скучные видео, для тех кто понимает в кожевенном ремесле. Перематываешь в конец видео и увидев результат смотришь других... Делайте что-то сложнее и интереснее.
