DIY Ambient box and Ableton Live

  • Ambient box is amplified by one piezoelectric sensor.
    The springs of different thickness are tuned to different notes.
    Ableton Live used to add some effects.

      Same here, just got this in my feed today. I suspect it's been suggested because I just watched a couple of videos about the Korg 'Acoustic Synth' prototype that just got revealed at the Berlin audio tech show recently.

    The harmonics from the tap you do at 2:18 are so good. felt like you were getting a chord off the kalimba bit.

      How does he do that is it the DIY kalimba or something in Ableton live that gives it the harmonics?

      @@demp11 you can see plugins doing that stuff on his screen. You can also use things like Crystallizer, Echoboy by Soundtoys. Or even all their EffectRack from Bundle to go crazier with Filterfreak, Panman etc. Either use any delay with pitchshifters, any randomizers plus a whole bunch of reverb.

    I used to play with my electric guitar for hours with different reverbs and echo effects on, its amazing how it can be so expressive and expansive from such a minimal source, like a guitar string pluck or in this case a spring...

    The song feels like the character is in a cavern with colorful and shiny diamonds . It's darker than the other cavern, even with a lamp. There's no monsters, no enemy, but someone (or something) is watching you.

    It's amazing how much there is into physical instruments. They speak the world. Navigate through thr noise and find a vibe. Synths are really clean usually, can't get the same result as a simply mic'd instrument

    you say the springs are tuned, but it doesn't sound like anything is tuned. it sounds like you're using an effect within ableton to force-pitch various sounds that build up overtime due to the large amount of reverb and delay that doesn't roll off

      Looks like Ambidel & Diffused long cascades specifically.
      A delay and reverb would be the most basic forms of those.

      @@snador anywhere on the surface you want to use as a resonant chamber. Inside the box is best since it will let you make holes for the female jack. I used a tin round box, so no neat looking thing, but a hanging jack won't ruin anything, it's just unpleasant to see

    okay not to be stupid. but i love music production and i love atmospheric sounds, but i have no electrical knowldge to make my own instruments i can use with my DAW..... how in gods name does that work. please and thank you

      the piezo sensor removes the vibration of springs and wood, as on an acoustic guitar, the piezo sensor is connected to the TRS connector, then via cable to the sound card where the sound is processed by VST plug-ins or DAW effects, instead of VST, you can use guitar effects pedals or a processor
