DIY Ambient box and Ableton Live

- Ambient box is amplified by one piezoelectric sensor.
The springs of different thickness are tuned to different notes.
Ableton Live used to add some effects.
My music with this instrument:

listen on apple music: / time-to-wake-up-ep
Even if that was postet 4 years ago, I´m seeing this today for the first time. Very impressive and interesting! Now I want to build one myself - thanks for the inspiration!
Same here, just got this in my feed today. I suspect it's been suggested because I just watched a couple of videos about the Korg 'Acoustic Synth' prototype that just got revealed at the Berlin audio tech show recently.
@@ColonelForkEyes same!
That's exactly what I thought too 😅
Postet? 🤣
@@MadScientist267 🤷♂
The harmonics from the tap you do at 2:18 are so good. felt like you were getting a chord off the kalimba bit.
Reminded me of Jordan Sauer.
Yes.
yeah I didn't expect those harmonics
How does he do that is it the DIY kalimba or something in Ableton live that gives it the harmonics?
@@demp11 you can see plugins doing that stuff on his screen. You can also use things like Crystallizer, Echoboy by Soundtoys. Or even all their EffectRack from Bundle to go crazier with Filterfreak, Panman etc. Either use any delay with pitchshifters, any randomizers plus a whole bunch of reverb.
I used to play with my electric guitar for hours with different reverbs and echo effects on, its amazing how it can be so expressive and expansive from such a minimal source, like a guitar string pluck or in this case a spring...
We needed this 4 years ago, and now we need a tutorial how to make one!
ps dont need no computer
The song feels like the character is in a cavern with colorful and shiny diamonds . It's darker than the other cavern, even with a lamp. There's no monsters, no enemy, but someone (or something) is watching you.
Thanks 🙏
Minecraft reference? 🤓🤓
This is amazing, from what I can tell this is not only just a reverbed sound box but can be used as an effect plugin as well
You are touching parts of the box in this I wouldn't even think to touch. So cool, sounds amazing. Thank you.
That's what she said
@@claudevieaul1465 haha
This just sounds unbelievably good, especially for what it is. Duly impressed.
Woah. Big sounds out of that little box! I began building my own and also got the Kalimba. Can’t wait.

It's amazing how much there is into physical instruments. They speak the world. Navigate through thr noise and find a vibe. Synths are really clean usually, can't get the same result as a simply mic'd instrument
I literally shed a tear because of the spring at 2:34
That's the best ASMR video on RUclips. Seriously, that's the only time I got an ASMR effect
This hasn't once failed to get me to literally cry from how beautiful the chords are. It even just got me to huff huff sniffle just by playing it back in my head.
Thank you, I appreciate it!
Simply Beautiful. And as anytime talent is there, it seems so simple to non-musicians like me. We could naively believe we could do the same ! Thanks !!!
Absolutely breathtaking.
Congratulations, you built the electric kalmiba. Sounds awesome!
A crash of noise, and yet there is something positive about it.
Nice work!
Thank you!
Fantastic! If you were to build those, I know many people would want to buy one from you.
Thank you, as long as I only have one copy, I'll consider making more
i would totally buy one that sounded magical
@@blandlex What kind of pickup was used?
We want one! 😊
this could be great for drum sounds if you plucked the springs rhythmically or sampled it
The beautiful repetitive chaos! Sometimes my brain just NEEDS controlled chaos like this! Thank you!
Finally! An instrument I won't suck at.
The spring at 2:17 is literally my favorite sounding thing I've ever heard so far
loooool as soon as I saw the chain in Ableton I knew it was gonna sound huge. this is awesome.
jesus christ, dude! i was amased already, but when you brought out the snare wires, it was just incredible!
Holy smokes that's some sureal stuff out of normal common things found on a workman's bench. Very interesting project to attempt at home.
Mini beam blaster! So cool!
Alors là ! Incroyable ce truc.
Chapeau l'invention !
Have you tried moving a violin bow over the springs?
The spring at 2:17 sounds so good🤗
you say the springs are tuned, but it doesn't sound like anything is tuned. it sounds like you're using an effect within ableton to force-pitch various sounds that build up overtime due to the large amount of reverb and delay that doesn't roll off
Do you amplify the piezo directly with the audio interface pre-amp?
Hauntingly beautiful.
the space you get from that thing is insane
That was the coolest thing i ever seen. I realy feel so. Lifeturner for me im try to build something like that. Tänkz for inspiration.
The first note reminds me of Decks Dark by Radiohead
This is amazing! Where exactly do you hookup the piezo sensor for the best result?
most coolist music gear video. nice sound!
Does it has some pick ups or a normal capsule microphonic??
piezo pickup like an acoustic guitar + guitar pedal effects or VST
For film music....love it.
This dude made the dream cast boot up noise
INCREDIBLE!!! DIDNT SAW THAT COMING!
I love sound design and instruments!
Would you mind if sampled some of this into a song?
Greetings from Croatia ^^
ask for forgiveness, not permission
@@rexradford5043 lol what in the schizo
I'd prefer to do the processing with hardware effects or my synth rather than using a computer but that doesn't stop your Ambient box being FANTASTIC!
That's very interesting and inspiring.
really nice idea!
It sounds like video game music... It's amazing...
I saw this in a dream about 4 years ago...now I'm thinking it wasn't a dream at all.
My heart exploded
What are the little forks right above the Mona Lisa called?
Excellent for ghost movie.....
Ace machine, I like, Subscribed.
Super stuff! Very inspiring thx! Can you share what effects you used?
Thx
Looks like Ambidel & Diffused long cascades specifically.
A delay and reverb would be the most basic forms of those.
cool box
Гармония в конце очень приятная
This would be great for film.
Cool!
Wow imagine hearing this little box in a long tunnel or somewhere that echos lol like the "Mile" long tunnel in Marble arches in London or somewhere.
Incredible
How does straight plug in to the amp sound?
God bless abundant reverb and delay. Cool presets! Could make a fart sound cool!
Looks and sounds amazing
RUclips: spills 4-year-old masterpiece into recommendations
Me: developing the question where to buy the parts to build such a thing
Brilliant!
Very interesting!
this is awesome! Inspirational :)
Really cool!
Hey
Great sounds! What type of piezo did you use ?
Any piezo will work
@@scacchomattho do you just put it in the space inside the box? Or is there anything else to note
@@snador anywhere on the surface you want to use as a resonant chamber. Inside the box is best since it will let you make holes for the female jack. I used a tin round box, so no neat looking thing, but a hanging jack won't ruin anything, it's just unpleasant to see
@@scacchomattho Thanks brother, i will try to build one :)
Amazing. Just amazing. 😮
This is really cool 😲 🤯
Thanks
this is absolutely amazing!!
(also, we've got the same audio interface lol)
Blessed by the algorithm
Jeez... This makes want to check if all my house doors are locked. 😮
Wow! Beautiful job ! I really like your musical world. I havent' found you on Spotify... Can we hope some new videos or something ?
Thank you...
Noice! I dunno if I missed it, but what does the red button do? (is it a cutoff button?)
This is “kill switch”
OH MY GOD. THAT IS AWESOME.
That’s awesome
What is the name of the bars you used to hold the kalimba tines in place?
Copper Multiple Connector
The effect sounds like a Guitar Rig preset
Almost sounds like this was used to create the dkc2 ice level themes ^^
Is this how disc 13 was made?
okay not to be stupid. but i love music production and i love atmospheric sounds, but i have no electrical knowldge to make my own instruments i can use with my DAW..... how in gods name does that work. please and thank you
the piezo sensor removes the vibration of springs and wood, as on an acoustic guitar, the piezo sensor is connected to the TRS connector, then via cable to the sound card where the sound is processed by VST plug-ins or DAW effects, instead of VST, you can use guitar effects pedals or a processor
😮ohh wow nice performance😮❤🎉😊
Lovely stuff.
I would like to know how this box works.
inside the piezo sensor that turns the vibration into an audio signal + guitar effects instagram.com/p/Bu_u1sGnEgC/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I like your stickers
What type of springs are you using? The springs I purchased are either too small and thin, or, too thick and won’t stretch
I wondered about this as well. Find anything out?
@@iddqd85 Nope - no answer :)
well you're the right person to subscribe to
How much post processing have you added?
"Yes."
vst guitar rig 5
which ableton theme r u using? it looks cool
Reminds me of the Colour Palette by Lottie Canto.
this is sick. i love it :)
If you build it they will come do you have any available I'll buy one right now!
So, let me ask, how did you make this instrument?
Wood box, piezo sensor, springs, diy kalimba
absolutely lovely
Beautiful
Mickey Hart would appreciate this 💀
have you thought about commercial production?
how did you made this ambient box!? it sounds so good!!
inside the piezo sensor that turns the vibration into an audio signal + guitar effects
what audio software do you use to create these cool envelope/ reverb effects ?
it looked like it was the abelton effects plugins
this is amazing!
