I just ordered a 3 in 1 piezo mic. I'm new to them. I got a cheap one for $10. My plan is to start making experimental instruments, and recording anything that I can make a cool sound with. This idea is inspiring. I feel like experimental instruments are going to be my new hobby. May be one day I'll have my own business making weird sound generators. I'm still taking baby steps right now.
Artists will often announce that they are in the studio making an album if I was big I would announce that I was in the workshop making a device. I find these creative concoctions just as amusing as a new album can be. Good job
Wow!!! I was thinking about picking one of these up online. Found this vid after I saw Simon's video as well. amazing work, I particularly like the jigsaw blades😁
I love to make this, the sound is a delay as I got from the comments. Could you make an Instructable on how to make the electronics for the delay, please? I can make a piezo and pre_amp, but a link to this circuit diagram of the delay would be ok as well.
Way better. But it would be perfect with a bunch of the saw blades all tuned to dif notes. There is an interesting wooden instrument like that. You should copy it. Maybe in a lager enclosure. Seriously. With the drum pads too. The springs are useless. The beat pads into a looper with a song over it on the saw blades with a delay pedal, would be nice. I used to be a pedal builder. Let me know if you have questions.
Nice work! Could you elaborate how you hold the strings together? The connection point isn't really sharp in the video. Next to that, really curious where you got the "gong" spring from :). Appreciated!
The strings are held by a metal clamp that's screwed onto the enclosure. Basically sandwiched between two pieces of metal. The gong thing is a spare part from a bandsaw, but I don't know the name of the part, especially not in English. Hope you find it :)
Thanks! It's made from scrap metal, so it's a one-off. Can't build more. I might offer something similar somewhere down the line that I'm able to produce in bulk, but idk when.
@@proffloff I would totally get one if you did. Seems really cool. Especially with the fact it has rechargeable battery and is not needed to be powered
Seriously hit me up if you decode to make one because o have been wanting a kalimba type instrument, this expands way beyond that , and is like an Industrial noise synth. If it is worth the commission, I would pay like 300$ or more easy for one of these or whatever was fair. Not sure what it cost to make and time of build and etc. But it could turn Into a lucrative business for you. I want one already lol. I could do a lot of fun with one
oh man honestly i hit sub because this little thing inspired me enough to make one for myself. first diy instrument i am gonna do! what would you recomend i use for the little wire tree. i cant possibly comprehend how to make a delay but i will buy a pedal for it!
Thanks for the sub! I just used some old guitar strings from a trashy acoustic I had laying around. I wouldn't worry about the delay. You can just have a delay after it :)
Hey. I'm not in the business of making these for people, but it's very easy to do. Just a box with a big piezo microphone, then you just put a bunch of stuff on the box. You can do it! ^_^
I'd like to see you do another video with different materials attached, like glass? or upside down spoons to hit with mallet (xylophone style) not sure if any of this is possible. Really cool regardless
Hello Casanova, very nice done. Thumbs up:-) Do you think its possible to build a "Scrap Yard" by using a wooden cigar box? Think it will be my next project. Like your folktek thing. But Im not sure if the piezos work fine with a wooden plate. If you have some experiences to share....dont hesitate:-) Thanks Nobone
Nobonesforthedog Hey. I don't have experience with making one in wood, but I'm sure it will work fine. it will probably give it a great acoustic characteristic too! :)
Hey Mario. It's a Red Witch - Violet delay. I picked it up super cheap (~$40) a year or so ago, but didn't find any use for it before now. Hope that helps :)
Hi. I did say it in the video :) It's a small delay that runs on a rechargeable battery, which is why there's a power input on the side of the pedal. Hope that helps!
Christian Valleise I mean, I hadn't planned on it, but I'm also a student so I'm always looking for cash, haha. I'll let you know if I decide to let it go. Cheers
@@proffloff I will buy one seriously. I love custom synths. This looks amazing . Like I will commission one if you want to make them to sell? PayPal you :) 😀. May be hard to ship i suppose or it pretty transportable? This is niche Industrial right up my alley, totally dig it
this mod is awesome, searched for something like this a long time. Now i ordered one, and i cant wait to play with this and mod it! Like, is the re just a normal piezo element inside?
I haven't watched the video you linked to, but it's just a simple (if somewhat big) Piezo element inside of it (+tone pot/killswitch/jack). I bought mine on sale, which is why I got it for modding. They are closer to $135 than $200 when they're not on sale though. Hope you will have fun modding it!

Thank you, Jean. We are still in the process of making the circuit work the way we want. Ordering parts and trying out different things take a lot of time, especially when the two of us making it live on the other side of earth from one another. We will keep working on it and hopefully get somewhere soon so we can start on the PCBs. :)

I love everything about this, from how it sounds to how it looks.
Very cool. Thanks for the inspiration. Love the jigsaw blade sounds....gonna try that!
What a fantastic piece of kit! Great sounds! Might have to try my hand at building something similar!!
Sounds have a great quality!

I thought, and still think, the black fly is great. You yook it to a whole other level.
Sounds great. I'd love to see a video of you incorporating this into your setup and playing everything at once.
Very nice and the delay adds so much ambience to it. You could do a dub techno set with this a o pocket operator alone!
awesome work! Simon also inspired me to make some stuff. This is making me want to do more!
Very belatedly, that is great!
Great noise box!… did you use a piezo preamp?
SO cool! This video inspired me to purchase a piezo pickup to experiment with. It arrives on Tuesday. :)

Shows how you did it special with efects you have on board thanks

Does this have a preamp for the contact mic, or is it just a mic-to-output situation (aside from the delay in the middle)?
That thing is pretty rad man.i love it!!
Very, very cool!
I would love to make one of my own.

@UglyCasanova , how did you do the delay circuit?
Awesome toy man.Can you please explain us how you used the delay circuit the process?
It goes piezo > volume > mute button > delay > output
Fantastic! You built the delay circuit yourself or bought?
I'd like to know more about the delay. I never seen a rechargable one.
It's just a 9V battery that's rechargable instead of single use
Mate great stuff
what components did you use? i want to build one
one hell of a mod
(^______^)
sick. I checked out the original, and this kills it.
Wow! nice tune) what is delay in box ??
Amazing work
That's so cool, man!
great percussion
Stunning stuff!
Had you make a tutorial about it?
Can you provide details on adding the delay to a box?
so intresting
sweet job

great stuff! I LUV Simon!!! :) He is as sweet as he is hilarious... a winning combo! cheers.
Do you have a video on how you made this with the parts list? Awsome invention,, thanks
This was made so many years ago, so unfortunately not
This is fantastic! What type of strings did you use in the string tree?
Tnx! Just some acoustic strings I pulled off an old guitar. I don't know the make or anything like that.
