  • A guide to the basics of rolling, for teachers even more than students, especially for those who help beginners learning Aikido. Introducing the fundamentals of ukemi: the art of rolling. Learn the diagonal path that protects the head and neck and allows for a safe practice. How to train the body to find that path naturally.

Doing Aikido for long time. I never mastered this ukemi , now I know why, I did not have you as a teacher. Most of sensei I had worked with, they could not tell me the explanation that you just gave. You said it very simply and logically . I thank you and I hope you live a long life Sensei , we need people like you in every dojo. Thanks again

This video is a wonderful resource on basic ukemi. I've really had to go back recently and look at my backfalls and rollouts, and this is a great reference for many young and even senior students. I'm going to have my students look at this video. Thank you for giving back to the Aikido community. Best wishes from Nebraska - Zach J.

I strained my neck really bad from an improper ukemi. I’m not going to give up. Can’t wait to heal and practice more.

my thanks. I've actually gotten promoted through a ukemi test - but it was only the side roll/back roll, didnt realize that knowing your body and positioning without practice would teach you a front roll (something I have always had problems with a 6"2) thank you again.

Dear Moon, is there a way that I could download those great videos? Being on youtube is great but there a moments that having on my computer, I could show it to many other people. Congratulations on the video. Certainly an important part of training is teaching new students how to remain in the art.

This is great! Thank you for making and sharing this video. I am a beginner and I am having a bit trouble with back roll. Like what you pointed out, I have rolled directly on the back of my head (head and neck), and after that, my bodys' response was--" no way!" I agree that it is really crucial that higher rank students knows the fundamental and safe way to teach back and, or forward rolls to beginners. Peace!
