    Nice! This is the first time I see such focus and detail offered in Ukemi as part of the curriculum

    I have been teaching Martial Arts for years in Shotokan and Yamanaka Kojute Jujitsu. I am quite impressed by your videos and showing progressions for Ukemi. Its a standard I hope others will share out there to better understand the systems they study and build a better understanding that will allow martial artist to grow. Thanks and keep up this awesome job you are doing in these videos.

      Thank you for the feedback! I hope to bring a systemic approach to foundational principle- and skill-building in aikido, and let the shihan focus on transmitting technique!

    Many thanks for posting the video. That was great. As a Judoka, I am fascinated with the variety of ukemi that are found in Aikido. We have a shodan who is also an Aikido shodan, so I am going to ask him the help me learn a couple of these.

      explore everything, even the ukemi that doesn't appeal to you - analyze what your body resists, and which patterns serve you and which patterns might harm you when the unexpected or unusual happens, and develop your own ukemi that fits you best!

    Lo spirito di qs arte combattiva faceva parte della mia remota infanzia. C'era qualche maestro zen che me la rievoca a. Si è tratteggiato su un destino che non si conosce bene e chissà che cosa accadrà nel prossimo futuro uno zen particolare a qualcuno apparta e la gru ritornerà a volare sulle Alpi di frontiera

    What is the difference between the scissor Roll and the normal roll? I mean, in Judo we usually use Scissor Roll but in Aikido the normal Roll, What is the application? When should I use Scissor and Normal Rolls?

    • @AikidoChuseikan
      @AikidoChuseikan  4 года назад +1

      GREAT question! If you can, always use normal rolls. If you are edging into breakfalls, scissor rolls help. If you have a knee injury, you may find yourself using scissor on one side, normal on the other. If you have A LOT of momentum, the scissor roll helps disperse energy (like a judo slap). If nage is staying attached to you - do scissor, you don't want anyone else landing on you when you are going for a feather fall or a normal forward roll... If you need to roll and come up facing LEFT instead of RIGHT, you might need a scissor roll...
      Feel it out, explore how it illuminates your body's resistance to moving in new ways. Gain new pathways, keep the ones you like most.

    Ukemi was fantastic. Pity about the irimi nages at the end though.

      Laughing - yes, they were rather forced and stiff. But I was ready to wrap this video up - no retakes!

    Las muñecas de las manos se pueden dañar con ese movimiento al tocar el tatami

    • @AikidoChuseikan
      @AikidoChuseikan  4 года назад

      Translation: "The wrists of the hands can be damaged by that movement when touching the tatami." Or the neck/spine when rolling. Or any part of the body when hitting a rock or concrete. Or the organs on a hard fall. For most of the progression, the arms / wrists are held straight, and the goal of the progression is to make the actual connection to the ground through the hand very early and very soft. In my experience, I've experienced much more impact via traditional slapping ukemi.

      Intentionally- as well as the additional twists that progress from there. You might be surprised that that specific twist-roll was introduced to me as part of the standard curriculum under american Yoshinkai Aikido. The purpose is to train the body to be *able* to find the ground safely (8 directions) no matter how you are thrown - particularly if you aren't given clean, straight energy from a "standard" technique. If you get hit by a car while on your bike, you might find yourself spun while trying to roll. During my training with Saotome Sensei, he would sometimes "re-throw me" into a different direction after I have left the ground - to make my ukemi more adaptable.
      It isn't my goal to get everyone to roll like this normally. It's my goal, in a structured way, to prepare you for if it happens unexpectedly!
