- February 7 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) joins The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell to discuss his End Tax Breaks for Dark Money Act, legislation that would ensure the wealthy cannot avoid taxes while corrupting our political system by applying the same rules for donations of appreciated property to 501(c)(4)s, (5)s, and (6)s as already exist for such donations to 527 political organizations such campaign committees, political action committees, and political parties.
The fact that Supreme Court justices don't have term limits is just unfathomable in today's world.
The one job that no matter how bad you are no matter, how corrupt or how old you are you can not be forced out what a bunch of bullshit

Well i guess that there was little reason to think about term limits until that fatal decision that money is free speach. In my opinion that's an invitation to corruption and lobbying. In Germany we do have term limits: 2 x 6 years up to the age of 68 and we do respect the decisions, although we sometimes don't like them.
I think Senator Whitehouse does an excellent job , but you would need a 2/3 majority to change anything ?

In my lifetime, I have heard from a lot of Presidents and a lot of Supreme Court Justices and it never occurred to me to question their ethics. And then I find myself in the current situation and it surprises me that we have to investigate SCOTUS, finding them as corrupt as the rest of them. And not one word about impeaching any one of them!

We definitely could use more U.S. senators like Whitehouse. Thank God somebody is staying on top of judicial ethics and the connections w/all the dark money from billionaires. (And we go around shaming and pointing fingers at other countries' "kangaroo courts.") SCOTUS needs more formal oversight when they violate their own supposed ethics rules. (And, there definitely appears to be violations of U.S. tax law on the part of the justices and their donors!!) SCOTUS has never been good on tax cases...but give me a break: any one of them has heard of cancellation-of-debt income (taxable w/ exceptions) and the requirement of reporting large gifts. Keep at it Senator Whitehouse!!
