- August 10 | Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) joins MSNBC's The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell discuss ProPublica’s latest bombshell report further exposing the breadth of undisclosed billionaire-funded gifts to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
Whitehouse has long been the Senate’s leading voice for improving transparency and accountability at the Supreme Court. Last month, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed Whitehouse’s Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act, legislation that would help restore the American public’s sinking trust in the Supreme Court by fortifying regulations regarding judicial conflicts of interest and recusal. The bill was endorsed by The New York Times editorial board.
It is time to impeach the grifter justice Thomas.

In what other trial is a jury composed not of a group of randomly selected people who are vetted to make the jury fair and impartial, but instead composed of your political friends and enemies, in which the makeup of that group honestly means more than the seriousness of any crimes committed.

Well, Whitehouse and Durbin had months to issue subpoenas to SCOTUS and the donors, but instead ran out the clock with feckless letters and rambling hearings. What use is power if Whitehouse and Durbin are terrified to use it?

Greed is totally curable, as the species will discover in the next decade or so. Greed only exists as long as the human race exists, and we are killing off ALL mammals in the rush to own EVERYTHING.

We need to bring back the tax code that Dwight Eisenhower had of 79 percent on the top percent above 279 thousand dollars per year and that made the 1950 's and 1960 's a lot better times than today. The ultra rich people spent their money on cars and private vacation and lived large and then people could work for them and make good money for a family and only one would have to work and mom could stay home and take care of their children. And own a new car and home and take at least one week long vacation. Tax the powerful billionaires boys back into being just millionaires and limit ownership of homes to 10 max other wise we will become a rental property nation

We need term limits for all elected officials of 8 years max per person lifetime total and judges for 10 years total lifetime max per person and no retirement benefits or health insurance benefits if they want health insurance benefits they can pass it for everyone and 65 year old max before they are elected. And then they can live with the same laws they pass for us minions.

Remedy for SCOTUS: Remove corrupt judges. Institute term limits. Eliminate ALL ‘gifts’ of ANY type/value. Establish harsh punishments and automatic expulsion for violation.

It’s no wonder Thomas barely spoke a word in the court FOR YEARS. He was probably never adequately prepared, having been living the high life all this time. Unbelievable. Thank you to Sen. Whitehouse for his persistence. I think part of the problem is that when our system was set up, our culture was based on a positive outlook. People were counted on to strive to "do the right thing", and the concept of "evil" we have allowed to permiate our world didn't exist back then, at least not in the way it does now. Our supreme court justices were counted on to be pillars of our society with a profoundly comprehensive grasp of the law and the fortitude and character to be able to carry it out. Unfortunately, our world, culture and methods of operandi have declined, and the character of some to go along with it. It won't add up in our supreme court.

A Supreme Court judge's income is about 6 times that of a primary school teacher.
