Firstly, great vid! I would also like to see actor/director/cinematographer pictures for a top 3-5 on the sidebar, as well as lists.
But most of all I would like to customize the banner photo! As a patron I love that the first film of your top 4 gets you a banner, I just wish you could upload your own or at least have it be from a film not in your top 4. It would be a nice feature for non-paying members as well.

I used to agree with number 1 but tbh the fact that letterboxd let you choose only 4 favorite films has now become one of their trademark and branding with all those interviews they do with film folks, asking for only 4 films, in a way its something totally unique to letterboxd now and their image.

  • @ezratheworst

I heavily disagree with #7 as I feel as though Letterboxd is meant to be community driven and help you discover films you would've never given a chance before hand. Adding an algorithm would make it so you only watched the kinds of films that you currently like instead of finding a whole other side of cinema you never knew you would've loved.

For Number 4, I think there are 3 options:
    1. They don’t add any TV shows at all.
    2. They completely restrict it to miniseries.
    3. They add every show.
If they chose either 2 or 3, I think shows should have their own rating system, so you could not only rate the show as a whole, but also the individual seasons, volumes and episodes. Maybe you could even have a separate favourites list on your profile just for shows! This is an incredibly tall order but I think if they managed to pull it off it would be great!

    • @cineflect

I think you've covered it well. I'm in favor of either option 2 or 3, but it seems like Letterboxd is going to continue to operate in the grey area between the two 🤷‍♂️

They should definitely go for the 3° option, execlitly the way u said, I use an brazillian app called "Banco de dados" i love it, but I would like to use just one app (letterboxd), they should copy all the gadjets of this app.
They should add a calendar for upcoming movie relases (and series eventually)

    - I think we should be able to follow, directors, actors, actress, studios, etc.
-They should add a calendar for upcoming movies releases (and series epsodes eventually)
    - Letterboxd should go all in into the series stuff, add all of then, but we need to be able to rate and mark as watched each episode, able to add favorite series on our profile, mark series as abandoned too, the 3° point in the video would enter here too. But they need to put films and series in separated spaces
    - We should be able to configure how we want to see display our films tab for ever, I hate that every time i need to put "recent added"
    - It shouldn't be necessary to click in review or log to put a film in your diary, I used letterboxd 1 year just clicking in watched in the movies, lost all the dates.
    - The algorithm point I like, but should be just a brief tool, not something too big to spend houres in the app
    - Overlap list would be fucking awesome.
    - Tottaly approve add fav directors, actors and actress, 5 fav films to your profile and point 10, 6 and 5

I don’t enjoy seeing TV shows on Letterboxd because to me it is a film space. In a world hungry for ‘content’ the lines between film, show and series gets blurrier everyday, so I enjoy having a space that is dedicated to just film. That being said, I think a compromise would be to allow all shows/series onto the site and to let users filter out the medium(s) they don’t want to see.

How about creating folders or sub-folders for your lists? I make quite a bunch of lists and find it a little tedious to have to scroll to find the list I want to edit, and the only filter options I have is just sorting them by name or date, or just filtering by public/private. With folders perhaps it would make navigating my list page much easier. Or, at the very least, how about having my lists in a grid view rather than a 1-column list view.

I don't want TV shows on letterboxd. I want a platform that focuses completely on TV shows, a place that isn't centered on rating but actually on reflexion and debate. I remember back in the day when Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Adventure Time and Naruto were airing, people were also extremely active on forums and social media, hyped about the next episodes and discussing where the plot was going.
I want a platform that revives that type of community and actually makes me want to talk about a series and share my experience with other people.

Your activity page only allows you to see activity from you and your friends, but it doesn't let you write anything about what you're thinking unless you review a movie. It personally doesn't bother me much one way or the other as I barely use Letterboxd.
But for my two cents, I think unless the video is explicitly considered film (by the majority?), it shouldn't be on the site. They tend to be typically quite different forms of media in my experience. I just found it very strange when I first noticed Black Mirror and Sherlock episodes (amongst others) coming up on searches, lists, and whatnot. But I kinda understand it.

  • @itswrongtokillanimalsifyou2837

    - Series should be a no-brainer, since virtually every viewer will have had the wish that they could log a great show they've watched. Changing their tagline isn't all that difficult, I imagine (I don't even think a change is needed). This will be a pretty obvious edge for any future Letterboxd competitor to have over them.
    - There should be an option for filter options not to be reset every. single. time. you visit a user's page, since people will tend to have a preferred setting (see all 5-star ratings, for example) and might go through many a page looking for ideas on what to watch. Having a big colorful text reminding the user that these filter options are active is fine.
    - Letterboxd should make it more clear whether and when a user is being shown custom recommendations. It feels like the site is being intentionally vague about it, which makes one wonder if they do it at all.
    - There should be a feature to automatically show the users who most closely match your own star ratings on the films you have both rated. I can't imagine that it's hard to implement, and finding users with similar taste is about the most valuable thing after being recommended a film directly, based on algorithm.
    - How is the UI on isOS so confusing in 2023?

Honestly I don’t care as much if there is or isn’t TV shows, but I do want all or nothing, inconsistency is annoying.
Though I would like them to be there but in a separate tab from films.

Yes. The inconsistency is the problem.

Sure! It could only help. Many critics use the site.

Never used it way too old for another daft algorithym. The time of great autuers is long gone - this society cannot create the big A . Cinema was dead by 2010 .

It would be great if Letterboxd showed the accurate count of movies I watched in the current year. Even if I don't review every movie, I still want to keep track of my yearly movie count. Currently, I manually create a list and add the movies to it as I watch them, which is a bit frustrating but manageable.

You don't have to review a movie to log it.

  • @unrealistic5462
    @unrealistic5462 2 года назад

Well to the 10th, you can already do that if you just use movies from the actors/composers/directors

Yeah, that’s a decent workaround, but it’s not quite the same as having a list of faces and names.

None of these would improve letterboxd. Most of them are features already available on IMDB that have proved to be useless.

3:49 they should give a user the option when opening the app ‘Film’ or ‘T.V’ if you click Tv you gain access to reviewing a logging all your shows just like you would if you clicked film. You can switch to the opposite page at any time with a feature at the bottom like on Instagram when you change an account maybe in the future this feature can grow it books comics games and more forms of entertainment I also feel it could be great that users gain a choice weather they want to add this feature to the app so those who do not want the change don’t have to have it and those like myself desperate for the change can enjoy it as much as everyone else
