When the thousands of dignitaries fly in to see Hong Kong handed back to China, they may not notice a small park out of the aircraft window as they skim Kowloon's rooftops.
This tiny oasis away from Hong Kong's modern hubbub, was once the infamous 'Walled City' - a network of squalid apartments, home to drug addicts, prostitutes and triads.
Within its boundaries, British missionary Jackie Pollinger began a life long 'ministry' to convert addicts to Christian and prostitutes to pilgrims.
Today her 'parish' extends across the colony.
A-P-T-V has spent time with Jackie, touring the side of Hong Kong world leaders won't see on June 30th.
This is no ordinary church and this no ordinary congregation.
These are converts who gave up drugs and found religion.
And this is the British woman they can thank for pulling them back from the abyss.
For the past 30 years, Jackie Pollinger has been helping the flotsam and jetsam of Hong Kong pick themselves up and start again.
She's lost count of the people she's weaned off drugs or led away from a life of crime, but it runs into hundreds, possibly thousands.
Nowadays, would-be followers of her Christian gospel queue up to spend time at the Saint Stephen's Society homes she runs.
Jackie's convinced that although Hong Kong has changed over the years, its people have not.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"In one sense, I have not noticed Hong Kong change, because I have always been completely absorbed. I mean for years, for 20 years in the Walled City, we were down this black hole, so I didn't really notice there were some buildings going up and some land being reclaimed, because people with problems were the same and just as
    hopeless."
    SUPER CAPTION: Jackie Pollinger
Jackie and her team of ex-patriate and Chinese carers assist the addicts in confronting their internal demons and to rid themselves, sometimes quite literally, of their problems.
It's not always an easy task.
This area Jackie describes as the most changed place in Hong Kong.
Only five years ago it was the Walled City - home to around 100-thousand of Hong Kong's poorest and most desperate citizens.
Strolling through the park today it's hard to imagine it was home to drug dens, addicts and prostitutes.
Like Jackie's converts it's been completely transformed.
The Walled City may have gone, but Jackie says its problems remain.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"There are definitely some areas on housing estates where the incidence of rape, sexual crime, child beatings, suicide and mental illness is awful."
    SUPER CAPTION: Jackie Pollinger
These teenagers have just come into Jackie's care - in pyjamas because they're going through their ten day detoxification programme.
    They receive no medication.
Unlike the teenagers Jackie first encountered in the Walled City, she believes today's youth is beset by a different set of problems - not of literal survival - but survival in the dog-eat-dog world of capitalist Hong Kong.
But it is in these youngsters that Jackie has most hope for the future.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"The previous generation was hard and full of cunning. These are just soft and empty and if you fill them up with love, they respond so quickly."
    SUPER CAPTION: Jackie Pollinger
Despite Hong Kong's return to Chinese rule, Jackie knows her work is far from over.
With this next generation of Christian converts, she'll continue doing what she does best - bring hope to the needy and spreading God's word.

Let's see how well known she will be in Heaven .
She will be crowned and most certainly she will lack NOTHING .
