- We finally got the Akuma trailer for Street Fighter 6! I'm going to be giving you guys my first-time reaction to the new gameplay, as well as a deep-dive on everything we can learn about the character, and how he will play relative to his previous incarnations on SF4 and SF5.

funny you say that, on the playstation blog nakayama stated they used "buddha statues and animals as reference for his musculature", so you might be exactly right on the animal they used for reference

So I translate 1000 year old Japanese stories and put them on RUclips and I have an explanation of what he says during Raging Demon. The first part is basically a bunch of kanji that goes as follows.
So, the first set.
一瞬千撃 isshun sengeki
一 one; ichi
瞬 instant; shun
千 thousand; sen
撃 strike/attack; geki
Pretty straightforward; one instant 1000 strikes.
The second
抜山蓋世 batsuzan gaisei
抜 pull out i.e. a sword, hair etc; batsu
山 mountain; san/zan
蓋 lid/cover over/contain; gai
世 worl; sei
Pull out mountains, cover over the world.
This one requires a little more explanation. My dictionary says “Herculean strength” but more literally it means being so powerful that you can uproot mountains and “cover over” the world, e.g. containing/controlling the world. Essentially, Akuma is claiming that he has achieved a power that can dominate the world.
The third
鬼哭啾啾 kikoku shushu
鬼 demon; ki
哭 weep; koku
啾 wail; shu
Demons weep and wail.
This one you can mostly understand at a glance but to fully appreciate it it requires some explanation. The last kanji is repeated to emphasize the fact that the demons are wailing like mad. Specifically what I picked up is that it’s supposed to be the wailing of those who died violently and tragically, the “spine chilling” (is what my dictionary says) screams of the damned.
The fourth and final
故豪鬼成 I had a hard time hearing how he actually pronounced this but I believe it was; yue Goki nari,
故 therefore/thus/such; yue
豪 powerful/terrible/grand; go
鬼 demon; ki
成 to be/to become; nari
Thus, I am/have become Goki or I am/have become a/the great demon. This one also deserves some explanation. I’m sure some of you know that Akuma’s Japanese name is Goki/Gouki, which is a combination of the kanji for powerful/grand/terrible and demon. So here he’s either explaining why his name is Gouki or just straight up claiming to be a Gouki or even THE Gouki. Given the nature of Japanese and Chinese (because the first three sets of kanji are basically Chinese just with Japanese pronunciation), and given Akuma’s mad confidence and belief in his supremacy, it’s safe to think that he’s claiming to be not just a powerful demon, but THE powerful demon.
And finally he declares
我、拳を極めし者 Ware, ken wo kiwameshi mono.
“I am he who hath mastered the fist” but not just any master. The implications of kiwamesi are such that he has taken it further than anyone has ever done before and therefore is unparalleled in his mastery. But the best part is it's in not just regular Japanese but 1000 year old Classical Japanese which are dripping in this ancient atmosphere that suggests a godlike power.

the aKUMa jokes have existed since day 1 of Akuma's existence in the street fighter franchise. so why not continue the tradition?
I just realized that since 5 takes place before 3 and 6 is after 3. Akuma got the lion hair in 5, said "nah" in 3 then went back to the lion hair when 6 rolls around.
3 is in a funky place canonically because 5 takes place before 3 but we see the ending of 3 and its aftermath in 5. The last couple seasons of SFV are kind of an SF3 retelling/rewrite to make more sense (it doesnt but whatever lol)

12:06 I'm pretty sure Akuma only ever kills people he considers worthy opponents. He doesn't just go around murdering, he only fights people that accept his challenge, unless I'm mistaken about the lore.
Akuma is only interested in fighting those he thinks are strong, and he is not interested in the "weak"

Raging demon has always had a simple input
I love that we get to see Akuma overjoyed that his training has finally paid off. He’s smiling and talking about how finally all his work has come to fruition. My man went from a godlike being to actually being a god and he’s stoked about it lol
I like how they pretty much dropped the Akuma looking for an apprentice angle in favor of making the satsui no hadou “his way” rather than “a path that one may take”
Week 1: Akuma is broken bro

I feel like the new raging demon is implying that he isn't hitting you 1000 times, but it's more like you seeing a vision of your death 1000 different ways. Each strike is a killing blow that could happen, and the main Akuma is him actually landing it.
Is it just me or dose it look like the ending of Steve and Hwoarang in Street Fighter X Tekken, because I felt that way when I saw the 100 thousand Akumas 😂

Underrated comment
I know that the new Raging Demon looks sick, but I like the classic black screen with the hit sparks better. I think the mystery of "what the hell Akuma is doing" looks scarier and more impactful, in my opinion. It's such a ruthless move, so powerful and forbidden, that the black screen is as if the game is giving the player the mercy of not showing the horrors of what's happening during the attack.
6:52 this is a move Akuma had in Tekken 7, his FF 2,1 so nice to see some stuff from there carry over

Akuma doesn't kill people to kill, he never attacks the weak or innocent. He only seeks battle with those he deems strong and worthy, because he needs to test and challenge himself. If the battle results in the death of either, then it is the greatest honor to Akuma.

The white hair is a reference to shin akuma, which is him on another power up. After shin akuma is Oni, but akuma despises that form due to the lack of control it has. So this is basically Akuma now always in shin form 24/7
Obviously meant to parallel Gouken in design.
I was under the impression, based on the name, Shin will be his 'final' form, but we may never see it in canon, because that would probably mean the end of his progression. You're right about Oni though. It's the theoretical of him letting the SNH completely control him in order to achieve ultimate power, but he'd lose all humanity.
That or Akuma is just becoming old 🤷♂️
Apart from the reference, this comment is just headcanon. Where, in any game, does it say that Akuma hates Oni because of the lack of control? I'm happy to be proven wrong here.
Shin Akuma is just Akuma when he isn't holding back like he usually does. It has nothing to do with a final form.

He's not really old tho, he had grey streaks in SF3 and SF6 takes place 5 years after that. He mastered the "Shin" form, the form right before Oni. That's why his hair is this way now.

9:33 His Level 2 super move might be a reference to the series "Street Fighter Legacy: Assassin's Fist" by Joey Ansah and Christian Howard. It's Master Goutetsu's "Metsu Gou Shou Ken" that he used on Gouki/Akuma during their death match prior to the first "Raging Demon" or "Shun Goku Satsu".

I've never played Akuma a day in my life in my entire time playing multiple SF games. I will not make that mistake come May 22nd. He looks so SICK, practically made for me.

Couple things to note:
- That was not his cr.hp but rather his back hp, I haven't actually been able to find anything resembling any of his previous crouch heavy punches in this trailer.
- Back heavy punch it looks like also lost the ability to start juggles (even on counter hit) and that has been shifted to one of his new heavy kick normals instead.
- The chop ender for demon flip is new and replaced the palm ender he had before, it appears that it is an overhead unlike the palm ender. In animation it is similar to his forward heavy punch in SFV.
- He lost the ability to do command grab out of demon flip so it appears he gained the ability to feint/cancel demon flip like cammy can.
- The teleport and command grab teleport are both very reminiscent of Omega mode being shorter in length but faster in duration.
- The move cancelled at 1:11 is definitely stand heavy punch not stand medium punch. (kinda crazy if you ask me).

Everything from the lion mane, to the longer Shakunetsu startup, to the new target combos gives the vibe that Akuma is getting older but putting more effort into refinement.

I love the complete 180 in mood he experiences in his victory screen where he picks you up to check if you're okay only to find you dead so he sets you down with a "aw...shit...whoops." look on his face, but then he turns and he's P I S S E D.
Akuma looks like freaking Oni with that build of his. Now we know why he never had any students not because of the excessive training... It's because he KOs them upon introduction,so bad they quit lol.

I think the command grab is replacing demon throw since that would be too strong against parry which is why he can now empty jump demon flip for grab mixup. It’s makes demon flip more reactable

That Raging Demon was a thing of beauty. I was getting Itachi's Tsukuyomi to Kakashi vibes from that. And with all of that white hair, he should be called the "Aging Demon". I'll show myself to the door.

I forgot how short Akuma is, he's like this crazy imposing figure in cinematics and supers, but feels kinda small next to ryu.
When i saw that "available now!" At the end of the trailer, i took that as Akuma is out already. Sadness. He looks incredible though, they went 100% with him in this game

He shares the upgraded utility from both Ryu and Ken combined; he has a move that buffs other moves from Ryu at 1:09, and a what looks to be a rekka from Ken at 1:46.

The demon flip into throw is actually different that's not his usual throw from mid air he landed and did a standard canned throw, which means he can no demon flip with no follow ups. Making his approach even more ambiguous

Akuma is a terrifyingly looking and powerful character but he lives a very normal life. He goes to the market to buy food, he trades, he goes to the airport to travel, etc. So it snot that weird to see him talking to John S. Fighter
They have to replace “John” street fighter now with”Steve” street fighter after that shoryuken.
That leap at 2:05 was full screen. If you can flip positions with that, that’s something to keep an eye on.

I'm interested in that grounded command throw. If he can choose to throw you while doing his teleport, its going to lead to some disgusting setups and guessing games. Akuma can perfectly space the teleport to add left/right ambiguity as well as if you let him phase through you he can throw you while youre blocking. Stealing the corner quickly would also be nasty af. Prepare for 8 Akumas in top 8 EVO
Demon Flip Chop is from Tekken 7, so glad they gave him, that because tbh I was never into the palm followup

7:15 I believe the chop special was first introduced in SFIV, but it was actually a move for Oni rather than Akuma himself. I think it makes sense that as Akuma grows stronger in the Satsui no Hado that he'd start picking up some of Oni's moves for himself.
