So, with those portal punches, and minions, he can full combo you, albeit from less damage, from fullscreen.

One of my favorite Bizarre fighting game characters is Koishi in Touhou: hopeless masquerade.
Her whole gimmick is she's a being that functions entirely on instinct so all her specials don't activate on input, instead by inputing a DP for example you bank that special in her memory, and then when you put her into a position where she can anti air she'll just do it. Giving you the vibe that she's kind of playing by her own rules. It gives her frame perfect actions but also it's up to you to capitalize or be aware of the posititions you put her in since banking a special takes her a moment of vulnerability and if you don't use the banked move in 6 seconds she'll just do it wherever you are.
So her entire gameplan is finding openings to bank your moves and then quickly making sure to capitalize on them for their frame perfect activations without holding onto them too long causing them to fire off prematurely. The fact she has "automatic contextual activations" gives off the vibe she'd be easy to use at first since it takes the timing aspect off your hands in the moment but in Reality she's by far the most technical character in the game because of the macro game you have to play with them.

Honestly, I'm impressed that you skirted the many BlazBlue characters entirely, seeing how several of them have crazy unique gimmicks.
Susano'o has all of his specials locked, and every hit moves a cursor over a list of icons representing them. Using his unique move, you then unlock the currently marked special and reset the cursor to its initial position. And his Super then uses every unlocked Special in one big combo before the massive beam finisher.
Rachel uses wind to manipulate the flight path of her projectiles and her own momentum, Nine combines elements from her normal attacks into elemental summons, the list goes on. Not all characters are entirely unique in their game design, but their execution tends to be really original. It's kinda impressive how deep each character goes.

Two caveats about PTX and Gold Lightan (PTX was my secondary back in the day):
1 - While they does have super armor, they actually can't take too many consecutive hits. Eventually it leads to an auto-dizzy and they lose their super armor while dizzy. Which leads to...
2 - Giants _can_ be combo'd! If he's dizzy the opponent can launch them for an Aerial Rave. HOWEVER some characters have moves that ignore super armor and allow them put a giant into a hittable state.
Because of this, while a few characters are forced to play riskily to adequately damage a giant, others can actually open them up to legit combos. And some characters are so good at it they can develop unique anti-giant combos. Mega Man Volnutt is a prime example of a character who can perform some crazy combos on giants.

Definitely Ice Climbers in their first iteration in Melee should be included, it's literally 2 identical characters who normally does the same move EXCEPT when you "desync" and can do different moves independently. I do not beleive desyncing, which is basically the whole character, was intentional at all.
The mechanics regarding how Nana follows you are pretty jank so you can make her semi-teleport to you with some moves, you can fling her forward while she's doing a projectile with the Nana-pult, etc.
And you don't lose control over the other one if only one of them are in hitstun, which actually makes grabbing them impossible in most scenarios (the one you didn't grab can just hit you)
Oh and when Nana gets separated far enough from you she'll get controlled by the CPU whose main goal is to get back to Popo. However she is more likely to hit you randomly with strong attacks the higher her % is. She has a propensity to try to airdodge to platforms in this state which can make her SD, and she can also do a very laggy taunt. Extreme jank.
She is very complex and it would be hard to do her justice without even playing the game, even alot of competitive players have no clue how she works lol.
I'd recommending asking the discord and focusing on one game if you do cover her, although I could see how it wouldn't be worth the effort.

There's a lot of Smash fighters that could qualify as "experimental", given how much their playstyles differ from the usual.
    - Pokemon Trainer: Three different fighters in one.
    - Olimar: A lot of his attack utilize whatever Pikmin is following him, each with their own special strengths and weaknesses (like Blue Pikmin having strong throws, and White Pikmin having strong pummels).
    - Robin: His weapons - tomes and Levin Sword - are potent, but have limited uses. Also, he can use the Levin Sword for midair smash attacks.
    - Ryu: The first fighting game guest star, he of course plays like a Street Fighter character, with command inputs and everything.
    - Bayonetta: Just about all of her attacks can be extended with Bullet Arts.
    - Hero: He can charge his three standard spells into stronger versions, at the cost of more MP, and can pick from four random commands.
    - Terry: Similar to Ryu, though his moves don't have Light/Heavy variants. Instead, he has two different side specials (depending on which way you tilt) and Super Specials when he's at critical.
    - Min Min: She can launch her two ARMS forward and/or backward at the same time, with the attack button controlling one arm and the special move button controlling the other.
    - Steve: One of the biggest resource fighters of the bunch, using mined materials for blocks, anvils, Minecarts, TNT, and crafting weapons.
    - Sephiroth: His Winged Mode makes him feel like a boss ready to strike back, with extra speed, jumps, power, and super armor.
    - Kazuya: Not as many fancy command inputs as Ryu or Terry, but he has a WIDE plethora of normal moves for even more situations (like rising from a crouch, or whether or not he's crouching).

@tedjo muljono she plays nothing like Nago. While there are similarities (A.B.A and Nago both having an install that lowers health), how they go about it is completely different
A.B.A. wants to be in her installs for as long as possible, as her base version is literally the worst character in the series (still playable, though). Her install (which is activated by a command grab or a blood pack) made her into an actual character but also lowered her health every time she did an attack, and your install could be ended prematurely by getting swepped. Her blood pack was a limited resource that could put you in and out of her install and, when used to deactivate her install, had an effect of healing her self damage. She also had an install super that was basically a win condition. A.B.A. was all about going from the weakest character in the game to the strongest as the round went on.
Nago, on the other hand, is all about threading the needle. His special costs blood gauge, which filled would take 70% of his life and allowed you to go hog wild for a few seconds. Unlike A.B.A, who gets stronger as time goes on, Nago is all about to do or die. When he's on any type of long offense, he basically instantly pops into his install. And while it comes with a lot of downsides, if he's quick about it, he could basically instantly take control of the situation and end the round.
These two characters are completely different.

@@tedjomuljono3052 Oh yeah, Zappa is absolutely more experimental. He has elements of stance and install characters, but with the win condition of unlocking Raoh. Great stuff, I wish he'd make a return, although I'm not sure how well he'd translate to Strive.
Hell, even Venom is pretty experimental tbh. It's interesting to have a character that is so expressive and versatile that you can play him so many ways, but that still has clearly defined weaknesses (defense in this case) and keeps a distinct _identity._ Also, Venom is simple enough to function within Strive more or less as-is, so (aside from maybe a little bit of overlap with Jack-O) there's really no excuse

I'd give a mention to Dr. Basconovitch from tekken 3 and Dampierre in Soul Calibur 5.
While most characters are generally apply high execution to their offense. Dr. B goes in the opposite direction and has high execution in regards to his defense. As whenever he blocks an attack, tries to backdash, or attack other than his jabs he will then start to fall and the only way to stop this is to press forward. If you do fall the only way to get back up is to either press 4 or do a roll and press up at the right time. Also he is the only character in tekken to have a randomized start as he has a chance to start a match or round standing, laying down face up feet towards opponent or falling down head first towards the opponent. You can also guarantee he will stand by holding one of the attack buttons. (Forget which one might be 3)
Dampierre adds rng to some of his attacks. Where when he uses certain moves he has a chance to either enter a fake pain stance or fall over. This is problematic as his best bnb requires repeated uses of a move that can make him fall over and most of his mix-ups with the fake pain stance are pretty fake.
Twelve from 3s should also be mentioned. As he is clearly an experimental character in the series. A "what if he gave a character top tier equivalent neutral but make them as weak as possible". As Twelve possesses long range normals, a projectile, an air dash and super jump cancelable normal. Also possessing some great EX moves. However, his damage on all of these things are underwhelming. He still gets by due to his strong neutral and pressure as he can do his air dash immediately off the ground and go for a variety of mix-ups while super jump canceling his cl. MK. The fact a street fighter character can do these things is absurd. This is stuff from MVC for crying out loud.

The weirdest thing about the PTX is that it's not even the most iconic Lost Planet mech. I think it was chosen because it fully encloses the pilot and has loads of equipment. You literally only see it for the first time in the last hour and a half of the 8+ hour game.

Interestingly, Ultra Fight Da Kyanta 2 doesn’t have many “experimental” characters, nor does it have many “experimental” systems it’s just that the game and its systems are all turned up to 11 and get so *kooky krazy for coco puffs* that and gameplay or clips of the game look absurd.
Many characters have normal tools that *look* normal, such as fireballs, arcing projectiles, sliding lows, oki setups, high low mixups, fuzzy overheads, dive kicks, DPs, air fireballs, etc. Many familiar things. But when you look at the frame data, EX moves and excellent multi-hit scaling and egregious forms like Demon Mode, no character collision, everything gets crazy and many characters open up infinites or TODs.
Starting it up as a casual is like starting up Marvel 3 for the first time as a casual, new to the genre. “Oh this is pretty funny look at this silly raccoon guy!” And then, you learn how to abuse the engine, busted combos, and infinites. And THAT’S when the game goes from good to great!

Hello jmcrofts, I think that another character from a 3d fighting series is very interesting and that's hwang from soulcalibur 6. The character has a mechanic that can make him start rounds with half life and handicap him, but is essentially like this because the moves that cost from his talisman mechanic are so good he has the mechanic as a draw back, as well as being able to gain more meter, gain health, or gain guard gauge and have unique interactions between those things as well as having very unique moves making for a very versatile character that is one of a kind and I have yet to see anything like in any other fighting game. Hope you make a video on him one day and if you need some tournament footage I can send you plenty of mine including top 4 evo footage or some from other tournaments 🙏

I was impressed by some Crucis Fatal Fake characters.
It's a fan tag team 2v2 fighting game based on Fate/Stay Night.
You are choosing team of 2 characters: a Master and a Servant. Servant is on point, Master is on anchor. If Master dies, you lose. As I remember, Masters have less health. Only Servants and Shiro have recoverable health. Only Masters and Caster can assist. Also, stock of meter depends on team composition.
    And some characters very unique.
First, Illya. Unlike other Masters she does not fight. Servant dies you lose. She gives a lot of stocks. Meter recovers insanely fast. And she has unlimited Comand Spells. instead of 3.
Second, Berserker. Unlike other characters he does add stocks, but makes them fewer. In combination with some Masters team will have only 1(!!!) stock, which makes level 2 unavailable. Caster/Illya team for instance will have 8. He's pretty bad with any Master, except Illya, in fact. But with Illya he's strong. Because a unique mechanic. Everytime he dies, he'll ressurect, if you have at least 1 stock of meter. Everytime.
Third, Avenger. He has a super, that creates a save point in a match. If Master dies while Avenger is alive, a match resets to the save point. So, he used that super you'll have to kill him first and only then a Master.
As a honorable mention, Caster was originally planned to be played as a Servant and a Master.

About six characters can instantly set them into a juggle state, one of those characters having that ability as an assist, and any attack that breaks armor shuts them down. They're still annoying but the game gives you enough tools to deal with them. Someone described them as knowledge checks and I like that description, when you learn how they work they're just another character

    • @VolnuttPWNS
      @VolnuttPWNS Год назад +1

The giants in general were sort of the go-to rage character that people selected when you beat them up too hard, so there's always the threat of them popping up. Fortunately, *actually* good giant players were really rare, and most characters had at least some options for dealing with them (projectiles/mobility, as well as any command throw/cinematic super) so it's not too bad as long as you know what you're doing. My main team was naturally very good at fighting giants though, so my opinion might not be too fair lol.
To go in a bit more detail about the matchups, Gold Lightan isn't that big of a problem. His dash has a super long animation, so it's pretty easy to run and zone him as long as you're looking out for his stomp and whatnot. It's also worth remembering that any of the giants' throws can be broken out of by mashing, so even if Lightan gets in, it can be hard for him to actually open you up.
PTX, however, has a full-screen armored tackle that is very hard to fight around (especially because it can be cancelled at any time with Baroque) which lets him approach quickly and start pressuring you with his strong mixup options. Plus there's everything else JM has said this video, especially the stuff about the unblockable missiles during his super. Good PTXs are very, very scary.
