    Another excellent video. The best part about this, and all your videos, is that you talk about actually using the camera in real life situations and you show lots of examples of your work. I am an X-Pro2 user, and love it, but I may add an X100F to my kit. Many thanks for posting.

    Mattias, I’ve been watching your videos for some time now, raving over your reviews and photos. But I have to say, the first picture of your dog in this video (in my opinion) is one of your best shots. Amazing color, sharp focus on the eye, and so much buttery depth to the photograph. This shot truly tells a story. Good work.

    I watch almost every camera video on youtube, somth very sweet about this one; the mood, the genuine opinion and i guess the absence of "wana do a review video with detailed specs". Even if i had to search for its specs such as mic input or headphone jack, it gave me a very clear idea of the spirit of shooting with that camera. Much respect.

    I've had my X100F for a few months now finally learning to appreciate all it's built-in features. I had to get used to controls and wading through the menu options and being careful where I place my fingers so as to not accidentally change settings. It is turning into the perfect 'travel companion'; a great 'grab and shoot' camera that I'm learning to trust. Don't miss interchangeable lenses at all..for my purposes the built-in digital zoom options work just fine. And when I want to enhance effects like using a polarizing filter that works great too..purchased the adapter ring available from Fujifilm to enable mounting of 49mm filters and a 49-52 mm step-up ring to allow me to use my 52mm diameter filters and a Cokin 52 mm filter holder if I want. It can be a simple point and shoot camera or as versatile as you want. And it just looks cool.

    I love your reviews. How about a review of Fuji x-m1 ? It has tilting screen, interchangeable lens,great sensor, aperture and exposure-compensation can be changed with wheels. It’s small, lightweight and with a Fuji 18mm f2 lens it’s a stealth street camera. The x-m1 gets bypassed by reviewers. And cheap to buy….

  • @Thomas_Geist

    Not mentioned in this video is the electronic zoom. While it is an electronic zoom whereby at 35mm (shown in the viewfinder as 50mm giving the nod to the world of FF) at 50mm it crops the image down to 12meg, but unlike other cameras with electronic zoom, Fuji reconstitutes the image file back to 24 megapixels. This is an image improvement over other E-crop cameras, but a definite compromise to an optical zoom lens.
    But that considered, the option makes this camera - in my humble street shooting opinion - the premier street camera out there when one just wants a camera with them but is not going out specifically on a hunt. When I do that I carry an X-T3 with a 35mm Fujicron f2.0 with the 50mm in my pocket.
    For the next generation (if there is one given the market these days) I would hope for a faster lens (f1.7 would be nice) that also focuses faster and a better EVF. Other than that, don't screw with it. No bells no whistles not tilty this or that. But I'm quite happy with this one, as I was with the T, actually. It is fast enough to capture everything a street shooting should at least be interested in...the story. This is NOT a landscape or video camera. An don't ask Fuji to make it that. If that's what you want...GO ELSEWHERE.
    For anyone thinking about getting a Leica M10 with a 35mm Summicron, get this more advance, hugely lighter and more discrete camera and send your kids to college or something instead. What good is a red dot if it gets you mugged?
    If Fuji produces an X-Pro 3 without the really stupid looking dip on the dial deck that makes it look like someone stepped on it I might...MIGHT...consider one of those - assuming they offer it in silver AND a silver that matches the now four Fujicron lenses. (what a concept). Not matching the silver of both body and lens is really B league stuff. What is up with that, Fuji??? Yes, aesthetics matter. Get your shit together.

    I've never been overly fond of the x100 series lens, if you're going to be stuck with a single lens it has to be a great one.

  • @ducatitastic
    @ducatitastic 5 лет назад

    Having owned the X100, X100s and X100T I managed to try the X100F before it's general release and remember commenting on the focusing, I didn't think it was consistant. I later bought an X100F and found that I was getting a lot of out of focus shots when zone focusing, I even put a band around the focus ring to prevent it moving but that didn't work. The focus issue was fixed with a firmware upgrade but I had sold the camera by then and went back to the X100T. I now shoot street with a Ricoh GRII but would not hesitate in recommending the X100T. Fill in flash is simpler with the X100T too.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  5 лет назад +1

      Even after the update the zone can still wonder. Its a common Fuji issue. The WR lenses has the same problem. The old 18mm, 35/1.4 and the X70 don't have the issue.

    I still find Fuji X-T20 is a better choice. With 27mm 2.8 is even more compact than X-100F. And a lot of flexiebler because of objectively changing and swiveling display.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  7 лет назад +5

      Hey, I've been using the X-T20 for a few weeks now. Its a great camera, even though I reach for my X-Pro2 more often. The tilt screen is nice and so is the size. But... it is not more compact than the x100f. Even with a pancake. And its unbalanced and more uncomfortable.
      If I add the extra grip for the X-T20 its ok to hold, but then its even bigger.
      But still, a nice camera for sure and I might review it soon.

    Hi Matthias thanks again for a lovely video. Inspired by your Sigma DP1 video I went out too buy a Nikon D80. It's in great condition and has a 10mp CCD sensor. There is no video of course and the top good ISO is 800 after that don't both. So why bother buying an old camera and to me the wonderful X100f sums it up. It's almost to easy and the pictures are almost too sharp that you loose all the soul of the image. I am probably talking rubbish but the Nikon D80 will probably teach me more about photography because of the limitations. For the record I also think the X100F will be one of the great cameras so don't think I have a thing about Fuji. For the record I use a Nikon F50. Olympus muj 2, Nikon ftn, Yashica medium format. Panasonic GX7, Canon G16, Nikon Coolpix A and finally Nikon D5300. One mistake I did make was to sell my D7100. Many thanks.

      I'm doing an internship at a video and photo production company and my mentor uses a Nikon D3 with an 1980s Nikkor 35mm 2.8. He bought the Nikon used for a 10th of the original price and the Nikkor for 50-60€. What's even more shocking is that the Nikon is a replacement for a Sony a7 haha. He used that as well with the Nikkor and boy, this combination was delivering sharp images with the best colours I have ever seen.

    Great video as always!! I like what Fuji has done with their system for street shooters. In honesty though, any camera today will do. The comfort level and knowing your camera are what's important. I personally shoot with my small apsc Pentax system with pancake lenses and this is a great system that gets little attention. Fully weather sealed, built in shake reduction and amazingly sharp lenses that are super small, lightweight and of pro standards in every respect. Too bad Ricoh/Pentax does little to no marketing.

    Great video. There actually is a downside to the viewfinder on the x100f compared to the xpro2. The x100f has less diopter adjustment, so if you have bad eyes you may be able to see with the xpro2 and not the x100f.

  • @richardowen4558

    Bought an X100S on pre-order in 2013. Ended up trying two of them with the TCL on one and the WCL on the other. Just recently sold both of the cameras and the auxiliary lenses to go to the X-Pro2 and the XF 35mm f2 WR lens. Don't know if I will add lenses (not currently planning on it) but wanted the better options that the X-Pro provides like weather sealing. I could just never get along with the limitations of the leaf shutter's speed limitations (1/1000 sec when shooting at f2). I came from Nikon DSLRs for work (newspaper) and the X-Pro provides me with what I want in a camera. Just my $0.02 worth.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  3 года назад

      X-Pro2 is nice. X100v has a faster shutter wide open and is weather sealed so that would also had been an option.

      @@gearreallydoesntmatter Good to know but X-Pro2 has a top shutter speed of 1/8000 sec. On the X100S, the top shutter speed at f2 was restricted to 1/1000 second.
      Is the lens on the X100V weather sealed? The front element of the X100S moved in and out to focus so weather sealing wasn't an option.
      In looking at the X100V user manual I also see Fuji updated the battery level indicator which is a good thing.
      Thanks for the info.

      The X100v can go much faster wide open than the early models.

    as always, thanks for sharing your thoughts and wonderful images. i have long been a fan since your blackmagic pocket days, a camera that i thoroughly enjoyed and used for my video work. i have seen your continued interest in the fuji line of cameras. i presently shoot with a panasonic g7 which offers some nice 4k video along with a m43 body i enjoy taking everywhere for stills.
    but i am intrigued by the images from your fuji. i have been tempted by the x70 and x100 lineup as a discreet walk about. my question: is there any value in looking at the X-E2s? i was thinking as a low cost entry into fuji land, the older body with updated firmware offers many attributes of the xt1. thoughts?
    as a subscriber, i look forward to your continued postings. be well ;-)

      +smalltalk.productions Yeah I would definitely consider a X-E2s. The X-E3 will be announced shortly and should lower the prices on earlier models.
      A uses X100t is also a good option.

    Fujifilm has become the new Nikon. Now, I’d probably have to go with the X-T30, for its versatility and different lenses that U could use.

    Can x70 compete against x100f/xt20 for IQ? I want to buy "cheap" pocketable camera to carry around. Now I have xt20 and I love the images out of it. I'm afraid I will be disappointed if I buy x70.

    Great review. As much as I would love to purchase the x100f I think I will stick with the 100t for a bit longer. The upgrades, though very much welcomed and improved, especially the larger battery capacity, still isn't enough of a motivation and rational personally, to grab one. When upgrading I always like to do so with the approach question "will it help me to improve my photography" and frankly it won't. And besides that price at this time is still a high. I would have loved for them to introduce a real manual focus as to opposed to the focus by wire, I think that would have been really nice as well a different lens that wasn't so soft wide open at least not so much in the center. Otherwise it's a good camera just like it's predecessor

      Raoul Simon I think a snap focus mode like on the GRii and a tilt screen would have been killer. Then I would just have to own it.

    • @odemata87

      Mattias Burling I definitely second that thought. It would be a great street camera! Have to admit the 35mm equivalent is a favorite focal length for shooting and combining the two would be killer. A tilt screen I rarely use but it sure is handy when you have one especially for some low perspectives shots.

      Use Manual shooting, use manual focusing....set everything as U like. And that's it. No need for PS or LR "raping" to get this level of shooting.

      Mathias knows how to use the light, and how to compose a picture. Then, a lot of editing on Lightroom, and that's it. Some pictures seems to have been taken with a flash (1min35).

    I have the X70, i saw your vídeo review to decide to keep It. Now i'm between the X100F and the XPro2, i couldn't decide yet...

      If you already have the X70 you already have a small pocket camera. Then your bigger camera could be as big as it likes. So imo, X-Pro2.
      The X70 will also act as your wide angle lens.

    Seems like a great camera but why would you get it instead of the xt20? Not sure the leaf shutter is too important to amateurs like me and changing lenses is huge...

    • @oreo2022
      @oreo2022 7 лет назад +3

      The x100f has the hybrid viewfinder. Not necessarily better than the xt20, just a different style. Also, the x100 series frequently serves as secondary camera for people who usually shoot with big DSLRs or pro mirrorless cameras , which already handles the interchangeable lens situation.

    • @krischan5186
      @krischan5186 7 лет назад +5

      I think that the X100F being an all-around camera also implies that you don't need much of anything else like additional lenses. That, to me, is exactly what this camera does. Everything is, sort of, in camera, like having the ND filter, hybrid viewfinder and the digital in-camera crop view, a.k.a digital teleconverter, that lets you shoot at 50mm and 70mm.
      This camera invites a different shooting style: casual, relaxed and slow paced.

    • @thomashill5768
      @thomashill5768 7 лет назад +1

      Kris Chan I see your point but I think I'd still rather take my chances with an xt20 and a 23f2 slapped on it and keep my options open.

    • @gearreallydoesntmatter
      @gearreallydoesntmatter  7 лет назад

      Both are great. But the EVF and size would be enough for me to take the X100f over the X-T20. But thats mostly because I have an X-Pro2 that I choose over the X-T20.
