I think it makes a lot of sense the difference that you pointed out between 금식 and 단식, since the 한자 for 금 means "restrict, prohibit, forbid" while the one for 단 means "sever, cut off, interrupt". Thanks a lot.
I’m not very religious but I found this video super helpful in case I ever need to speak about religion with someone else. Also super random but could you please explain the difference between 안 and 속 I know they both mean inside, but I’m not sure when to use which one. Thanks for the great videos ❤️
Great question! The explanation is quite lengthy, so I think I will make this my next video. :) sometimes they are interchangeable but 속 is used more for things that are “covered” in something with definite boundaries (like a dumpling or watermelon). Also the opposite of 속 is 겉 which means “surface”. Whereas the opposite of 안 is 밖 which means “out”. There is more to explain so please turn on notifications and wait for the next video!

It’s good you’re not religious, neither am I, I have a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus isn’t looking at how religious you are and if you keep up with traditions. He wants your heart, because our heart speaks for us. Jesus died on the cross for you, me, and @Your Korean Saem because that was His grace and mercy, there’s a reason it’s called grace and mercy! So Jesus isn’t looking for your church attendance because many people walk into church as holiest as they can be but get drunk and swear like a sailor the next day. A repentant heart and a relationship with the Most High God is the only way to heaven, not religion. Remember that. God gave us the opportunity to repent and to know Him and we still have it now but there will be a time where that time expires. There is a real lake of fire and if you haven’t repented, take advantage of the time you have left
Great video! I wonder if you could dive deeper into Buddhism on another video one day, since it is still pretty integrated within Korean culture and there are a lot of temples in there, so it might come up in conversations more often than not. I have been to Korea twice, and both times I spent some days at a 'Temple Stay' in different temples. I didn't know much Korean then, I just went and I was pretty much left to wander around on my own and rest, but I would have appreciated to take part in the ceremonies performed during the day, even though I am not really a Buddhist myself. Things like meditation, temple food, the habits of the monks, or even the general Temple Stay experience, if you are familiar with it, would be a really interesting topic for a video. I know a lot of foreigners are interested in this experience :)
I’ve never done a temple stay before and I don’t have much experience with Buddhism in general but if I ever come across the opportunity I’ll do a video!
@@YourKoreanSaem Thanks, I appreciate it :) It might work out better as a vlog rather than a lesson now that I think about it. It also doesn't have to be a "religious" experience if you are of another religion. When I went there I literally rested in silence for a few days and nobody bothered me. It was a great opportunity to decompress and reflect. I live in Australia and I wish we had a place to go for Temple Stay here. I would go every month!

I translate the Arabic word i§lam into English via etymology concordance as 'safetyness' ie 'salvation' meaning 'that which brings about safety', and was told that this would translate into hindi as sarvaipani सरवीपायू, related to the name Shravan. Meanwhile if the korean language has an etymology system where words could be grouped under their family tree then translating foreign words could be done using etymology concordance for precision translation.

I've only ever heard "성당" to refer to "Church" though? Does it come from different 한자?
성당 is for Catholic churches; all other Christian churches use 교회 :)
Thank you for the useful video. Religion is an area that has a lot of jargon in English. Not sure how similar this is in Korean, but this was good for an overview of the very basics. It would be interesting to find out about further vocabulary specific to Christianity, which I know is a very common religion in South Korea.
By the way, why is atheism pronounced [무신논] rather than [무실론]? Is 론 a suffix that is also added to other words and is always pronounced that way after a final-position consonant?
(edit: just saw this was already asked by someone else, but still curious about the second question)
론 is indeed a suffix to mean “theory” but is not always pronounced as 논 😄 as you may have seen in the other comment, 무신론 is an exception that is pronounced [무신논] but if you look at other words that also end in ㄴ and are followed by 론... there’s 언론[얼론] and 원론[월론] but then again 이원론 is [이원논]........ 🤯 I’m not sure if there is an underlying rule of some sort I need to look into it lol
I’m starting to think maybe it’s pronounced that way for specific “theory” names like 음운론, 공간론 etc these all seem to be 논
It would be helpful that if there are hanja to put them under the korean word

무교 is also correct! It just means non-religious and not necessarily atheist :)

I thought that the word for "church" was 성당?😅 How is it different from 교회?
성당 is Catholic church. 교회 is all other Christian churches (like Protestant etc.) 😁

Why is it pronounced as 무-신-론 and not as 무-실-론?
The pronunciation is 무신논 and my guess is because 신 can be used by itself. The ㄴ > ㄹ only happens inside words that are always connected. Another example is 신라면 > 신나면
These are just some exceptions to the rule, it usually happens with sino Korean words (한자) and there isn’t a strict pattern as to when it happens!
Can you include, how to pronounce? Not in korean writing.
