“Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon.”
I am angry at myself because I should've made a video about this amazing Snyder movie sooner. It is perfect in every aspect, the writing, acting, directing, cinematography (although Snyder is obsessed with moments, I must admit his style is something very fresh and chilling)
I hope you enjoy this video. Thank you so much for your support!
Especially, you patrons, you keep me on mine feet. Thank you so much.

If so, then you probably also worry about a future civil war if you're in the US.
Do you see the world as fundamentally being dominated by people who literally don't have their own opinions, are unable to have an opinion if all of their friends would leave them for it, and even if they did have such an opinion they could hold are completely unwilling to sacrifice their happiness let alone their life for that opinion? If so, then you feel that solutions don't start with people having the right opinions (which is what most liberals seem to believe), they start with having the moral character to believe and fight for anything at all. I like Rorschach because he is that very critical first step, and is a pretty stunning reminder that despite the severity of his flaws in his character he did more good for the Earth than any of the other superheroes who were too cynical to do much like The Comedian and especially more than the Owl who is the most accurate representation I've seen of what it means to be a liberal superhero.

He understood the sickness our society suffers from, not evil, but the compromises we give it, more and more, until truth becomes a lie, until a lie becomes necessary. People would argue that good and evil are subjective concepts, not because they are but because of the compromises society makes us do. If only that first compromise didn't happen, if we stayed true to our guts, to our humanity and if armageddon came because of that, then let it come.

One is a satire of the superhero comic that, while brilliant, isn't really as relevant nowadays that the superhero comic is no longer in the same place that it was back when Watchmen was originally printed. The other is a brilliant satire of the superhero movie that is more relevant today than ever in this golden age of Marvel and DC movies. It‘s not really slept on since it does have a large fanbase & is more and more appreciated than it was 10 years ago.
I do think it does have problems with it‘s portrayal of Ozymandias (he really is nothing compared to comic Ozy) & well, you do have to watch the 3.5 hour Ultimate Cut (the theatrical one is really missing stuff).
I agree that Snyder‘s sense of visual idiosyncrasy is impeccable. Though it should be noted that Watchmen as a whole, a comic book that features sub chapters, a comic inside a comic & is both grounded in realism and in its mythology of depicting a street vigilante and basically god, maybe is „unfilmable“

    • @Bb-xq7gk
      @Bb-xq7gk 4 года назад +45

Out of curiosity, how could it have been better? I'm of the probably unpopular opinion that Snyder actually improved on the near perfect source material, I.e having Rorschach put up more of a fight after jumping out of the window than in the comic, and Dan being witness to Rorshach's death was also an excellent change from the comic imo. My only real criticism is that maybe the sex scene in Archie was a bit long, but it was still funny as was probably intended.

Alan Moore made Rorschach to be an unlikeable character. The fact that he's so relatable is so remarkable.

I love how this wasn't just a simple tribute. I could tell you passionately put these pieces together to perfectly complement the anomaly that is Rorschach. I love how it slowly progressed from scenes showing him at his strongest down to scenes showinv him at his weakest, all wrapped up by the music selection that just made it all better.
This is art. May no one ever question that

Honestly, it's a meh to okay-ish representation of the comic. The highlights are Rorschach and Dr. Manhattan creation scene.
And even then, they basically ruin one of the core scenes with Rorschach for seemingly no real reason. Meaning the scene with the murderer and the dogs.

@@prithibiishrak540 Not really no, re MCU.
The issue I have with the murderer scene with Rorschach is that in the comics it both demonstrates the dichotomous nature of the character or the black vs white aspect of him and it also creates one of the best images in the comic. Which is something you'd think a director so clearly talented with imagery like Snyder would understand.

This film is severely underrated, both as an adaptation of the book and a movie in general. I'm a big fan of both the book _and_ the film, and for the life of me I can't see how anyone could hate it, but it's gotten so much flak over the years. Hopefully the upcoming series will be good enough to generate new interest in the movie, and maybe then it'll get the credit it deserves.
