Just to be fair, no pilot on Earth is trained for something that flies faster than a fighter jet, is as big as a battleship, maneuvers like a falcon, fights like an animal but is as tactically clever as a human.

The nuke towards the end of this scene was an interesting concept, but I have yet to hear about a warhead that is an oxygen destroyer/vaccum. The best about the whole scene was Rodan, no doubt.
But as others have pointed out, The main goal was to get Rodan's attention and lure him away. For this, they had to get close, showing him what he is supposed to chase.
There is still a lot that went wrong here, that's for sure.
Also, I like to mention that Rodan was absolutely peaceful (so to speak), until the humans shot first.

@GambleSTARS The humans spent decades studying these Titans up to a point that they can mimic their calls. They spent exorbitant amount of resources that could've been used to solve hunger or cure cancer to ensure these immortal creatures don't wake up from their slumber.
These creatures are walking apocalypse since they destroy everything with every step and a flap of a wing. Who wouldn't want try to create oxygen bombs or a MechaGodzilla to stop them from strolling into your city. Definitely a fun breakdown to watch and very interesting but some context on the scene would've helped and removed some of the sins
The Ospreys are there primarily to evacuate as many of the civilians at the foot of the volcano as they can, the one firing the 240 I'm not sure about
The F-35s weren't trying to kill Rodan when they were "weapons free" they're trying to get Rodan to follow them so they could lead him towards Ghidorah, they're going to have been briefed enough to know piddly little missiles aren't gonna do any significant damage to a titan like Rodan
They couldn't use a MOAB because a) there are civilians in the area which would go against their aim of saving people from the titan if they killed a load with a MOAB and b) no conventional human weapon has ever killed a titan in the Monsterverse not even a nuclear weapon has killed them or even hurt them, even the oxygen destroyer they used after the scene only weakened Godzilla

I immediately thought of Pacific Rim. I was on a cruise around 2015 and was running this idea by some dude on the cruise who rudely (but it was awesome) corrected me that Battleships aren't equipped for friendly fire situations (read deeper than what I'm writing) - then I dropped on him, "Could you hit Godzilla with a Battleship?". He smiled and said, "I guess, if you had a crew that could fire the guns but Battleship the movie there's no way they win." I hadn't seen that movie yet at the time. it's F-35s, you didn't ruin it, they did.
Not only is the stick wrong, but it's a computer gaming joystick. everything in that frame is a computer, a computer monitor, I'm pretty sure that artificial horizon is painted on. but yeah, there's nothing real there.
"Get a tactical nuke" Okay, so you're clearly not following the Monsterverse or you'd know that nukes don't hurt these megafauna, but heal them. They EAT nuclear material and radiation is GOOD for them. it's been a major plot point in several of the movies in the series now.
If you think that's bad, you should watch the Matthew Broderick Godzilla movie from 1998 where TWO AGM-65 Mavericks are used to blow up Madison Square Garden like they were MOABs...
Sadly, it's not a B-2, it's WAY bigger than a B-2. They took a B-2 model and hit "Enlarge" a bunch of times on the printer... it carries about a dozen jumbo sized Ospreys internally, is capable of air launch and recovery, it's marvel-silly...
"Good attention to detail" I'm absolutely positive it was accidental. Director said "How can we make him flying overhead look more awesomer?" and someone said "over-pressure shock-wave following him?"
Pretty sure a couple of those "cockpits" were reused F/A-18 "cockpits" from Independence Day. I mean they used the same pilot/squadron monitor graphics to show the audience when jets were lost, so why not?

1:10 My best guess for sending F-35s, because F16s or F18s would look out of place when put next to the U.S.S Argo, and also the F-35 fits the lore. (In the lore there was a significant technological leap in between 2014-2019)
2:45 The amraams would lock on. It’s just being a giant stationary target on top the volcano emitting an enormous amount of infrared radiation that the EOTS on the F-35 would lock onto, or the IRST on the AWACS (The U.S.S Argo in this case) would pick it up and send that info to the rest of the squadron.
2:58 Target is danger close, can’t use a Moab. The whole purpose of the mission is to lead the monster away from civilian areas, not fight it. However this is where my defense for Hollywood ends, everything else they did terribly.
