    You are my hero. Your work makes my heart sing. Art transcends politics, religion, and language when it speaks to your soul. Thanks for sharing.

      M.C. Probably because art is older than all three of those.

    Jane, you have just shown me how to accomplish something I've long wanted to do. I always do U-Turns when I see interesting looking old billboards that are all peeled up and layered. I've tried several methods of getting that peeled billboard look--and now you have shown me exactly what to do! I love your videos! Thank you!

    is there an image of finished piece anywhere? I really like the first layer and I want to know that it's worth it to press on and do multiple layers. What does it look like after more?

    • @jdaviesVT
      @jdaviesVT  Год назад +1

      Nope. I never know if a given piece is going to get 'finished'. This is not a step-by-step how-to, because THERE ISN'T ONE. It is a method you can try, and see where it takes YOU.

    When do you know if it’s a finished piece good enough to show in a gallery or even sell?

    • @jdaviesVT
      @jdaviesVT  Год назад

      I don't. That is not the point. The point is: how do I know when a piece speaks to ME? And there is no easy answer. Generally I have to step away, let the piece 'cure' at least overnight. Then I take a glance at it with fresh eyes. A glance, not a stare. If it grabs me then it's done. But this sensitivity to my own authentic expression takes a lot of practice, the biggest part of which is letting the other voices take a back seat. If I even THINK of finishing, showing, selling a piece while in the process of making it, I lose it. Lose focus, lose the sensitivity to what speaks to ME, and the piece ends up looking contrived or derivative.

    What do mean you can’t just leave it like that? Of course you can. Have you ever seen Mark Bradford’s art? That’s all he does is put down paper and sand. His art can sell for in the millions.
