    People seem to forget how important he was in the NBA. Whereas LeBron is a basketball icon for the city of Cleveland and Kobe is one for Los Angeles, Vince Carter was the basketball icon of an entire country, and was responsible for putting Canadian basketball on the map.

    Without Vince Carter, you wouldn't have the Wiggins and Bennets of the NBA. They played because of him. The man put basketball on the canadian hearts and minds like no one else did. We may boo you on the court, Vince, but you'll always be a Raptor.

    • @karnak333
      @karnak333 9 лет назад +6

      ***** I guys Canadians before Wiggins and Bennet were never tall either. I think the country as a whole just started taking the sport more seriously. It would be assinine to deny the impact he had on young players playing basketball in canada, Vince was literally the most electrifying NBA player during his time as a raptor; youths watched him and wanted to play more, canadian governments founded basketball far more, he has had the most impact on canadian basketball, more than Steve Nash.

    This is like this story about a father and a stubborn son I was told when I was little. A caring father who loves and supports his son above all makes an honest mistake and because of that, his son holds a grudge against him. As the son shuts his father out of his life, the father continues to show his support, constantly trying to visit his son and constantly sends him gifts and money despite the son's dismay. It is isn't until the end of his life does his son finally forgives him where he then puts on his last smile breathes his last breath, sheds one last tear. Carter is like the father and the raptors are like that stubborn child, constantly booing him overtime he returns and now that Carter is merely a shell of what he used to be, they finally appreciate him.

    • @rommeljohnsson130
      @rommeljohnsson130 9 лет назад +11

      That's deep. Never heard the father story. That's for sharing.

    • @Marmalada180
      @Marmalada180 9 лет назад +5

      to be fair Carter did not make an honest mistake. He went out in the worst way, made worse by the douchebags in management. He may miss his time here but he's also shedding a tear for the way his career went downhill after he left. An in your analogy, the raptors are the father, and Carter is the son. He was stubborn and wasted his talents. I never hated him like the people who continue to boo him every time he visits the ACC, but I did not like the way he left.

    So what he moved around quite a bit, doesn't have titles or a ton of team success, but he was a great scorer for many years and arguably the greatest, most beautiful and entertaining dunker we've ever seen.

Injury slowed down vince in my opinion, because despite not being as good of a defender as kobe he was a better shooter and a better athlete. Idc what anyone says. This guy if he had stayed fully healthy and worked on his defense a little more could've been the best player in the league for a few years in the early 2000s.

    Leo was saying he and VInce never saw kids playing ball in the streets...
    Apparently they never came to Scarborough, in the eastern area of Toronto. People playing in the schoolyards, streets, driveways. It was actually a rarer sight to see street hockey in Scarborough. The biggest of the 6 former municipalities of Metro Toronto in terms of landmass currently has less than 15 or so public ice rinks out of more than 110 that the city of Toronto runs. And a couple of them are no longer ice rinks, or dedicated solely to hockey.
    That's why it's so odd for me to hear that Toronto was never a basketball city until recently... because I grew up in the part of Toronto that basketball and baseball flourished way more than hockey. And apparently it was this way even before the Raptors were established. I think it's mostly because Scarborough is the most ethnically diverse population in the already diverse population of Toronto.
    I wish that story was told on broadcasts more than the "Toronto is a hockey town." That may be true for Old Toronto, Etobicoke, York, North York, and East York, but not Scarborough.
    We knew basketball before anyone else.

    Vince did complain alot when he played for Toronto but he did put on one of the best performances of his career, after he left we didn't hear anything about him anymore similar to his cousin mcgrady

    Man, Time goes by fast, Maybe Vince Didn't handle somethings right in Toronto but we all make young mistakes, But Vince is a good guy, and you can tell he appreciates the ride. I

    I'm so glad the Raptors fans showed some respect for VC. We have a really bad habit of booing ex players. I remember fans booing fricken Damon Stoudamire over 10 years after he left here. It's not only stupid but also gets the ex-player to step up his game and destroy us as Stoudamire, T-MAC, and Vince did on many occasions.

    Why do they boo Vince Carter? He's one of the best players in the Raptors' team history.

      Aric Wilson Because he basically pushed his way out of Toronto, when he got traded to New Jersey , he did a interview telling the Raptors he didn't try his hardest every night , when he was there he was telling the opponents the plays the coach drew up , he even stopped dunking in Toronto. He told them he would never dunk again but his first game as a Net he dunked.

      Yeah Vince could have left better but it is time to bury the hatchet. Toronto is coming up and has been the most competitive Eastern Conference teams for a while and I don't see that changing.
      Vince along with other past players for Toronto played a sizable role in building that groundwork. Making the team relevant so they didn't go by the wayside like in Vancouver.
