You know what, I like the fact Ora are doing something different, a little weird and wacky but at least its not another boxy, bland suv. Love in the interior so the outside wouldn't bother me so much.
But SUVs are all cool and different😭😭😭 Fang Cheng Bao Leopard 5 is like the coolest car in the world, and the Yangwang U8 is so massive and luxurious and offroad worthy, and Li Auto L9 is like a budget GLS in which you can point to the window and say "open this", and Hongqi E-HS9 is SOOOO GORGEOUS😭😭😭😭😭
In this vehicles exterior styling I see: VW old Beetle in the front, the Panamera as mentioned in the video, Bugatti vibes with the wheel to wheel arch, Tesla Model 3 in the roof/windows, and from the rear, Bentley Continental GT. That being said, as funky as it is, I like it a lot!!
I'll admit the front looks a bit unfinished proportions wise and it clearly should have been a Liftback (especially with such a narrow opening) but I can't help liking it regardless.
Ora needs to do a sports car EV with better performance than the Tesla roadster. Then they can call it the "Scalded Cat" (as in "goes like a scalded cat"...) :)
I have a Haval H6 here in Australia…. And I am definitely buying the ORA when it arrives here later this year …. Shame this review had so much bias in it …
It's different and I like different. The interior and exterior is beautiful, don't mind that the screen is small it's supposed to be a car not a ipad. Ora did a wonderful job all of the brands under the GWM umbrella are unique nothing overlaps.
The ORAs seem less than their parts; there are so many things that look and sound good - but when they put it together as a whole they seem to make a hash of it.
My wife likes this car very much while I m watching the video. I checked the specs online about Lighting Cat, highest speed 170KM, not fast enough comparing with Tesla Model 3. But, To a tesla owner, this Lighting Car is not a bad choice for a second EV in the family.
Oh man if you driver that fast every day, im pretty sure you'll see the real lighting cat in the heaven...... too fast, it's very hard to control for most cars over 120kmph although many design standards are very much higher than this limit
The folks that designed the side-sculpting & rear wheel moldings must've been temps that worked when the Porsche-style designers were off duty. Both styles are cool enough, but they fit together like fudge and sauerkraut :^{ Overall, however, they've got something unique that everyone's going to take a second look at.
@Xarifa Zee I understood. I just meant that this design style _could_ have also been an emulation of Porsche style by a Chinese designer who liked that style. But you've made it clear that it was Derta.
The styling reminds me of the futuristic car designs from bad 1960's SciFi movies that people thought we would be driving by now, but I must admit I really like it.
The greatest issue for me with electric cars ( and I'm an EV owner since 2015 ) is the DC charging infrastructure, aka fast charging network, and cold battery charging + recharge times, these have to be greatly improved. I got a good 300 - 350 Kms range driving hard in my VW id3 Tour 5, that's 186 - 217 miles and if I drive at slower speeds, say 50-60 Mph I would get 250-280 miles and this is ok for 99% of my driving needs, In the first year of owning the id3 I clocked up around 30,000 miles but, it's when away from home and you need to charge both the infrastructure and poor charging speeds let it down, of course the infrastructure is not the fault of the car but the charge times are mostly down to the id3 when plugged in at a 150 Kw+ charger and a cold battery can greatly increase the charge time becuase while it has a battery heater VW have decided not to use it to precondition the battery even when plugged into the mains unless the battery temp falls below something like 0 Deg C. Anyway, electric cars while great have some ways to go before becoming a viable ICE replacement. If we're to go on very long trips I'll take the Diesel Mitsubishi Outlander instead for the sheer convenience of not having to endure a bad infrastructure but also poor charge times. My BMW i3 had a small petrol generator, called the Rex, and when the battery got to 6% the generator would kick in to provide as much range as you want while there's Petrol in the tank, the generator never drove the wheels, it acted strictly as a generator but you also had the option to turn on the generator once the charge got to 70% so you could turn it on on higher speed roads to preserve battery power then use that on slower roads and/or in town/city driving, it was really a great piece of engineering. The Rex allowed complete independence of the public charging network and also completely avoided the low charging power of a cold battery which I saw as little as 22 Kw on DC. The one I had was the 33 Kwh, shame they didn't make a larger EV with similar tech instead of pure ev or PHEV with the engine as the main source of power and tiny useless battery, the i3 was an amazing car.
Someone once described Teslas as being "high tech electrics in the chassis of a 90's Kia". And the interior of this car reminds me of that. steering wheel buttons aside! Pretty, but pretty simplistic in content.
Looks like a Porsche that fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on its way down. If anything, the interior is even more Porsche-like than the exterior, especially in that colour and with that gauge cluster.
Shame you didn’t research this car first before reviewing . The former Porsche designer designed the Ora range and now works for GWM You don’t need a bigger screen, you failed to mention voice control for turning in and off ac and open and closing windows . This car has been tested in AustraliA and reviewers seem to disagree with you on nearly every point . It’s extremely quiet interior, most comfortable drive in it’s class . You seem quite biased from the beginning , which made your review seem under researched
I really like the looks of the CAT range especially this lighting version. However I won’t be buying it. I’ll stick with the much higher tech and faster Smart #1 Brabus.
I actually sat in this car once. The designers DID overcomplicate some important things though especially the way they position the AC buttons, media mode buttons, hazard light buttons, AC knobs, drive mode knobs almost haphazardly. I get it, you want to appeal to drivers who like physical buttons, but THIS IS A BAD WAY TO DO IT!!
if this starts at $27K in China, then if sold in the west, it will be expensive.. considering the Good Cat starts in china around $17K-$20K USD, and in Germany its starts at $33K... imagine the same price increase fot this car.. at that price point, you can by so many good electric cars, that this wont be a stand out...
Now koreans copy chinese cars! Yes you read it right, as the new ioniq 6 is so similar to this one. I think the Ora got better quality than hyundai these days
while the looks is not easy on the eyes, still compelling car for unique looks and good value. This has the battery capacity of Tesla Model 3/Y LR but at $35K only?! The battery pack is LFP, Tesla indeed can make an LFP battery based Long range car at this price. There was a rumor that Tesla supplier that they could be testing a longer wheel base Model Y
These are the rear lights they should have fitted to the Funky Cat. The rear lights on the Funky Cat are horrible. And oh, anyone seeing some Bugatti Chiron cues in that centre console? 🤔
I doubt it's high on the priority list as it's not a China exclusive vehicle nor a fully Chinese brand either and it's already available outside China so they're not ahead of anyone with it either.
You know what, I like the fact Ora are doing something different, a little weird and wacky but at least its not another boxy, bland suv. Love in the interior so the outside wouldn't bother me so much.
Makes me wish they would introduce the rest of their lineup into Europe, their Ora blackcat and whitecat in particular
We're very excited to be receiving this in the very near future in Malaysia.
Exactly what I saw at first glance! Lots of familiar angles. Is like asking chatGPT to design a car.
@@aptrue Gold!
Yep ..someone put all those designs in a centrifuge ..and that's what it spat out.
The designer is from Porsche
it does hark of all those mentioned others but sadly master or better of none , BUT IF THE PRICES MENTIONED ON THE REVEIW ARE TRUE ITS kinda cheap
I thought I'd hate the look of this car, but seeing it driving by in the footage just makes me appreciate the retro styling. It looks so cool!
Thanks for an as-always straight-talking and fun review still including all the essential data. Great work!
I'll admit the front looks a bit unfinished proportions wise and it clearly should have been a Liftback (especially with such a narrow opening) but I can't help liking it regardless.
But then it would increase the price value much too much
And the american will she them
I love the rear 3/4 design on the Lightning cat and the Bugatti inspired interior looks fantastic.
Ora needs to do a sports car EV with better performance than the Tesla roadster. Then they can call it the "Scalded Cat" (as in "goes like a scalded cat"...) :)
Cat series is only a sub brand of GWM. He also has the Haval SUV series and TANK 4X4 off-road
The Porsche front with the Bentley Continental rear is an interesting mix up.
and probably a McLanren interior LoL
so interesting that koreans copied the overall shape for their ioniq6!
That sound in sport mode 😂 These makers got humour.
The ORAs seem less than their parts; there are so many things that look and sound good - but when they put it together as a whole they seem to make a hash of it.
This will be called the Ora Next Cat in select European countries.
Next sounds better than funky. It should have launched as Good Cat !
I first thought they were mixing a Porsche with a beetle. Now I think they mixed a beetle with a Bentley Continental GT
and hyundai copied them for their ioniq 6...
My wife likes this car very much while I m watching the video. I checked the specs online about Lighting Cat, highest speed 170KM, not fast enough comparing with Tesla Model 3. But, To a tesla owner, this Lighting Car is not a bad choice for a second EV in the family.
Are you german? where do you drive over 170 Km/h ? - not in China... they have cameras like every 100m 😂😂😂
Oh man if you driver that fast every day, im pretty sure you'll see the real lighting cat in the heaven...... too fast, it's very hard to control for most cars over 120kmph although many design standards are very much higher than this limit
3:27 they could not have made the screen larger as it will hinder window visibility. it will require a revamp of the center console for larger display
Ppl be like:
"This looks like "
LOL
Would look great as a 2-door
The interior is quite visually appealing
Looks like a retro-inspired mini Porsche Panamera, I quite like it.
With a bit of Bentley. Very much it's own quirky blend.
Are you going to review the BYD Yangwang U8 or U9?
The folks that designed the side-sculpting & rear wheel moldings must've been temps that worked when the Porsche-style designers were off duty. Both styles are cool enough, but they fit together like fudge and sauerkraut :^{
Overall, however, they've got something unique that everyone's going to take a second look at.
@Xarifa Zee Makes total sense. But it would also have made sense if they were just big Porsche fans.
@Xarifa Zee I understood. I just meant that this design style _could_ have also been an emulation of Porsche style by a Chinese designer who liked that style. But you've made it clear that it was Derta.
The styling reminds me of the futuristic car designs from bad 1960's SciFi movies that people thought we would be driving by now, but I must admit I really like it.
this car has been announced for Europe now so an interesting watch.
What the heck? This looks amazing!
This thing looks hilarious.. I want one! 👍👍👍😂✌❤
It’s a ‘Baby Bentley’ recipe…lovely. A lack of screens in the interior is a feature, not a bug at this price…
Ethan those new glasses are going to play havoc with colors and optics in a video ...😄

It's really nice to watch these videos but also sad that we won't be able to buy them cars here
USA? - you have Tesla... and.. Tesla ?
Someone once described Teslas as being "high tech electrics in the chassis of a 90's Kia". And the interior of this car reminds me of that. steering wheel buttons aside! Pretty, but pretty simplistic in content.
The car looks great , the comments are sh......
When you order a Porsche from Suzhou instead of Stuttgart
With a side of Mini and Bentley. Very much not just porsche.
Designer is Porsche designer.
I lost this channel and panicked. I need these videos in my life.
These cars do need regular servicing. They call that cat scan
*SLOW CLAP*
Another great looking Ora but wish the prices were a bit more affordable.
Beautiful design and concept, needs some chassis engineers it seems. Would like to see it in the west.
It would be awesome if you guys can get hands on a Qoros! I heard they just came out with a new vehicle after that initial buzz wore off.
Lol that sound and that look had me rolling😅 It’s a weird looking thing but I think I like it
Tesla and Porsche baby
Beautiful is something different!
Just fyi you missed a letter in the lightning in the title
Miow! I hope it's better than the other, smaller Cats.
The good cat rocks I want o e MEOW!
looks a child of a new beetle and a tycan
Looks like a Porsche that fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on its way down. If anything, the interior is even more Porsche-like than the exterior, especially in that colour and with that gauge cluster.
because it is designed by the former Porsche designer.
It looks like a confused or startled catfish
Nothing can be "Overly Organic". Harmony with nature should be our new goal. :)
I think they took some inspiration from the Bugatti Galibier concept with the rear and interior.
I can’t stop thinking fat cat for the name. It also reminds me of the 1992 Gaia focus concept.
Deberían hacer videos de para la comunidad latina como carwow
Beetle front, Porsche front, Porsche Cluster, Mclaren center console, Mbenz steering, bentley tail lights, mbenz front seats, porsche wing, panamera rear quarter. Not sure what to say.
The shift button design looks less like a car and more like a Dyson vacuum.
Shame you didn’t research this car first before reviewing . The former Porsche designer designed the Ora range and now works for GWM
You don’t need a bigger screen, you failed to mention voice control for turning in and off ac and open and closing windows .

I will buy it.. awesome looking car
I want one!!!! 😍💜
Make it a coupe. This car will look MUCH better with only two doors.
I really like the looks of the CAT range especially this lighting version. However I won’t be buying it. I’ll stick with the much higher tech and faster Smart #1 Brabus.

Porche front and Bentley rear.
Reminds me of a newer VW beetle and also the throwback Dodge Neon...

You must be joking this is almost the cheapest modern ev available
@@wcrash9361 again, based on the Good Cat China VS Europe pricing, this will be near the Tesla Model 3 price...
From the back corner the car is giving me Bentley
Seems they have a preference for the early Volkswagen and Porsche cars.
Cute AF!
I Love it!
Finally... physical switches in a modern chinese car!!
Finally physical switches in a modern ev in general. Not even just Chinese.
Now koreans copy chinese cars! Yes you read it right, as the new ioniq 6 is so similar to this one. I think the Ora got better quality than hyundai these days
come on! design so good, interior reminiscent of a bugatti chiron. generic cars here in USA ,move over
Chinese Porsche
705km!!!
holy faaark. just wow
while the looks is not easy on the eyes, still compelling car for unique looks and good value. This has the battery capacity of Tesla Model 3/Y LR but at $35K only?! The battery pack is LFP, Tesla indeed can make an LFP battery based Long range car at this price. There was a rumor that Tesla supplier that they could be testing a longer wheel base Model Y
I saw one at a charging station yesterday. Not very pretty and kinda cheap looking. Thanks for the review.
I’m sure ur joking nothing cheap looking about it
These are the rear lights they should have fitted to the Funky Cat. The rear lights on the Funky Cat are horrible. And oh, anyone seeing some Bugatti Chiron cues in that centre console? 🤔
I think that Clarkson would describe it as having a side profile of "a dog parking its lunch" and he would be right.
Why comment when you have no sense of style in car design
oh well the center console is quite like a Veyron!
I think I'll wait until the lightning cat cross torismo. That will solve the storage space.
The center console looks like the one in the Bugatti Chiron
It's appalling that we reached a point on which just having physical buttons and switches makes one car more appealing than others.
Looks like a Bugatti Gallibier mixed with first gen Panamera
hi can you do a review on the dongfeng fengxing t5 evo?
I was starting to think China forgot how to design bad cars
Is it Lightning or Lighting?
Lightning
Darn i wish they make cheaper segment with similar outer style.
This is definitely a Gta car
Taillights and interior reminds me of Bentley cars
Wow!!!!!
The Porschest cat 😁😁🤣
Strange you haven't review the smart #1 for us. 😢
I doubt it's high on the priority list as it's not a China exclusive vehicle nor a fully Chinese brand either and it's already available outside China so they're not ahead of anyone with it either.
Lots of cats!
The center console looks like Bugatti lol. I like the interior though
Strange cat!
please review 智己LS7
Hahahaha! AWESOME INTRO!
It's a Beetle Panamera Crossfire with Bentley taillights. Hideous!
Is there a model that is called 'Pussy Cat' Will be interesting to see how it looks.
So is it a Lighting Cat or a Lightning Cat?
i dont know.. if i look at its fron portion, its more like a cross of old and new VW Beatle...
I wanna feral cat
