Pretty good value for money if you can live with the styling and don't need much luggage space. The best news is that EVs are beginning to become affordable. I can imagine driving one of these around in the metropolitan area and not much further and being quite satisfied with it on that basis.

(0:14) According to videos I've seen from other RUclips channels, it seems to be sold as the ‘Ora Good Cat’ in China and ‘Ora Funky Cat’ in some other countries (like the UK and Thailand).
That would probably explain the branding, and I find it interesting that they decided to sell it under the parent brand as the ‘GWM Ora’ in Australia, but probably because of existing brand recognition.

This would make more sense as a dedicated four seater.
The headroom in the rear is mostly limited on the sides so bringing the seats inboard would help and there isn't enough luggage capacity so less people would help.

Question about the lights at the back. Are the lower ones (at wheel level) just reflectors?
I have seen another car reviewer on RUclips once mention that in their country (can't remember which) it was mandatory for brake/parking lights to still be visible when the boot lid is raised. This is so your car is visible at night if you are parked on the side of the road and getting the spare out etc. Makes sense.
So if brake/park lights are only in the rear window, does it meet Australian Standards?? I guess it must if it's been registered but still would be checking it out.

I think not putting air vents and at least 2 USB charging ports for rear seat passengers is unforgettable.
As we do with cars from Japan, Korea and western carmakers, Chinese cars have reached a point where their cars should be assessed on their own merits rather grouping them as if they are made by 1 carmaker.
Carmakers like Nio, Geely, BAIC, GWM ,and Chery have caught up with "established" carmakers.

Saw one on the road yesterday and it looked a _lot_ bigger than its nominal dimensions, and was distinctive, if not attractive. Watching the review, that rear seat would be very claustrophobic for a child: Paul's shoulders were below the window line, so a child would have no hope of seeing outside. The windscreen wipers also looked to be rather short for the job, but that might just be the angle of the camera. Have to agree about the boot space, and the differing levels once the seat is folded will make pushing items forward a chore. I still find Paul's need to tap, poke, and prod the item he's discussing - even when it's the only thing on the screen - a distraction. Would the viewer really be confused and struggle to understand you're referring to the shark-fin aerial is when it's filling the screen? Otherwise, another excellent review, and I never, never tire of watching the wheels bouncing up and down on the rough-road test.

In the end I realised I just want bluetooth to listen to a podcast on long drives, that's it, that's all. Driving /lane assist works fine if lanes are marked accordingly. I note the road you travelled had both lane markings and tarmac joins (which even in my old manual/petrol car) would be mistaken as a lane marker and throw the car over, or giving up, as you say the Ora did. My Ora here in UK tries desperately hard to decide which is which too, and more so on repaired country roads. 😢

you can get a picanto for $20K driveaway and battery costs for 60Kwh is around $15000. Wish more car manufacturers targetted the 35K range. That being said, this, BYD Dolphin and MG4 look great options

Picanto has no where near the tech that EVs has, and you've not I voided any electric motor, BMS, charging ports etc or profit to that equation. Not to mention delivery costs and overheads. So $40k is pretty spot on

@rolli389 those additional costs are saved by not having an engine, and all ICE compartments.
The margins for EVs are currently far higher than budget ICE vehicles.

11:03 double checking here... lower spec has LFP battery? the GWM website lists the 48KWh battery model as lithium ion as well.. unsure if this is an error on the website or by you Paul... You might want to check this. Cheers!

LFP also uses Lithium ion, but instead of Cobalt / Magness there's Iron.

A majority of people who'd buy this won't need fast charging, even if they went on road trips they'd likely take their time at charge locations with a cup of coffee or tea. Fast charging is expensive anyways so I'd rather spend the extra bucks on a coffee and snack then line the charge companies pockets 😂
