I did this during my college oceanography class! What a blast! You hear them before you see them and you smell them before you hear them! They're awesome!
Great view and trail! I like that the park balances people being there and providing the opportunity to see the seals but still giving them their space
Great field trip. Went there years ago & ended writing a story about them. It's an easy hike and you'll hear the elephant seals before you see them. Ranger told storys about back in the day (before park service management) visitors would sometimes pose for photos sitting on the seal lions - obviously not a good idea, nor permitted. Interesting studies have been done on these critters by attaching monitors, so researchers know the depths they dive to and the area they cover.
Yes, a bit north of Cambria on Hwy 1. Free parking and the seals are right below the parking lot and take up the entire beach during their molting season.
Fall is the best time to visit here in my opinion since there is no fog because of the offshore winds, usually its foggy and chilly. The mountains in the background show the burn scars from last years CZU fire in the Santa Cruz Mountains, you showed a little part of the Rancho Del Oso section of Big Basin Redwoods State Park which is still mostly closed due to fire damage. I would not recommend stepping foot past my knees in any area beach especially this time of year due to high numbers of Great White Sharks feeding on the seal population. This is a great time of year to visit because great weather and low crowds of people keep up the great work! I really enjoyed the last video on Henry Cowell.
This is one of the most beautiful spots I have hiked thus far in the San Francisco Bay Area! And it's relatively easy hike =) It's nice to know that they have reopened! xx
Another great video. I want to live on that island! I've been as far as the parking lot, trying to see the island. I was on my way back from diving in monterey bay. Beautiful video
Love this park. We go every year since it's not far from your house. Not many people seem to visit here since it's usually very quiet here with not many visitors.
You have to watch out for ticks - who knew you could pick up ticks at the beach. I came home with 3 - my husband found one on the bathroom floor, one in my bed and one in my ear.
brave man sneakers on sand... I feel like isn't there a free spot like 10 mins north of Hearst Castle? Saw a whole beach of them there from an elevated walkway.
Josh, you’ve gone to another place on my bucket list. We haven’t been there and I so want to see the Elephant Seals. Now, you said, winter is the best time. Is there a particular month that is better than any other? Thanks for sharing this hike with us. Love to see the Pacific Ocean.
best to go in the rain if you want to see breeding season. Wait too long and there are only juveniles. Aim for February. Be able to run in sand but you won't outrun them. Adult males are bigger than pickup trucks
Ano Nuevo=new anus. Año Nuevo=new year. “Antony Fauci” “Robert Müller”. Americans are able to pronounce (try to) foreign names or care about spelling, except for the language of 48% of Californians, and even higher share of New Mexico, Nevada or Texas…
I hear that there is one Elephant Seal that is so nice, that it has been seen walking through the parking ot and the trails....with a camera and talks. Also heard that the State Park employees named this Elephant Seal: Josh.
Went today, about 20 bulls and fifty females and pups. Fantastic. Great docents and guides.

Another beautiful video that showcase how gorgeous and diverse The California coastline is.
There is another elephant seal attraction in San Simeon. There are dozens of them right off the parking lot.

That place would be cool for our nature day group, but it doesn't look close to orange or la county. maybe the central coast?
Yea it is up by Santa Cruz.
Thanks

Great information, thanks for sharing!
What mic do you use for your voice overs? It sounds crystal clear and sharp
I just use this Rode VideoMicro amzn.to/3n1I8W7
@@californiathroughmylens really? During your post production when editing your voice over you use the camera mic?
@@californiathroughmylens what mic do you use in studio during editing? tnx
Lol, read the title and make me chuckle. Ano Nuevo translates to New Anus in Spanish. The ñ makes a big difference.
🤦
🤣
😝😝😝
The ideal lens to take would be 50-600mm
Are you from çorum?
Euh, je rajoute cela dans ma liste à faire.
