Platoon 160. Start 3-16-1966. Quonset huts and tents. Boot cut down to 8 weeks due to Vietnam. Did two years in Southeast Asia as an embassy guard. Semper Fi.
Platoon 359 September 1964. Times seem to have gotten really soft at MCRD. Lived in San Diego many years later and retired there after an aerospace engineer career. Passed by this place many times myriad times in later life without thinking about possibilities of revisiting it. Seems like a much kinder and gentler place now.
None of these are available to recruits while they’re in boot camp. Only on family day before graduation but all these things are primarily for permanent personnel stationed at MCRD like Drill Instructor’s and other support personnel. Echo Co 2nd Bn Drill Instructor and SDI 1984 - 1987.
Make sure to meet your new Marines senior drill instructor Wednesday night prior to graduation at the bay view restaurant . Platoon photos available for purchase. Buffet is fantastic. Would recommend billeting at MCRD. Proud father Hotel company graduation April 5 th 2024. Seabreeze shuttle gets you from airport to MCRD. Reservations required for meet and greet and billeting. Staying at MCRD avoids morning gate check in and you can explore non restricted areas as well as being early for motivation run on Thursday am. Semper Fi.
Congratulations 🫡 I’m sorry to hear that no one wrote to you, I’ve heard that some Marines don’t have family to visit them on Family Day and it breaks my heart to hear that. But I do THANK YOU for your service. 🤗

No. Graduates must submit the names of those that will/may attend and you have to pick up a ticket using your name on a non-expired and valid ID card to take it. This ticket grants a civilian authorization to enter the base and only within the authorized areas and time windows. Once that window is up, you must leave. Source: I'm a Marine myself from this base and I recently attended a Navy graduation a couple months back.
@@thorandil1 This isn't accurate. I have a recruit at MCRD San Diego graduating this May 31. No tickets required for Family Day or Graduation. The Meet & Greet DI event does need tickets. Outside family day and graduation I imagine civilians can't just come on base. EDIT: Maybe during COVID things were different.
@@Recovering_Californian Before Covid coupled with the 10.5M Illegals, no one has vetted, caused a lot to change. I graduated from MCRD PI SC in 1961 and have been back several times for relatives as well as going merely because I wanted to without a hitch. Right after the first scare a group of us got together and I called to find out if there was no one we knew could we still come. Oh, sure, everything will be fine...come on. We did. Had the extreme pleasure of watching my Marine graduate in July of 2018. What an incredible job the Corp did in welcoming the proud families.
