Actually crazy as hell, recognize a lot of these students, just graduated from MCRD and remember watching them practice on the parade deck from the squadbay
1stSgt Ashley was my company 1stSgt back in boot camp! That man was a great mentor and still is to this day. Him and his staff not only made me a Marine, but their motivation and guidance pushed me to become a Marine Corps officer. Oorah!
I was in Boot Camp at PI in 1979. Retired form actie duty in 1999. Can someone please tell me when the marching arm swing changed? From79-99 arm swing when marhcing was measured form the seam of the trousers, and arm swung 6 inches to the front of the seam to three inches behind the seam. While marching DIs would remind us with a loud 6 to front-3 to the rear. Based on what I see thes DIs students doing, it must now be 18 to the front and 12 to the rear. Arm swing is now equal to the stride length???? To me- it looks ridiculous!!
What I also understand is that training has changed not so much in how they operate they stick to the corp values obviously, but some circumstances of the training day may be different if it's 18 to the front 12 to rear that's a whole game changer from my experience at boot camp
In Boot Camp, we still say, "6 inches to the front, 3 inches to the rear" but also exaggerate our arm swings. It's so that when we get into the fleet (which you'll rarely use most likely) you're doing 6 to the front and three to the rear. We used to exaggerate specifically on eyes-right when I was in. By the time I got to MCT and the schoolhouse, everyone stopped exaggerating their arm swings and had perfect 6 to 3's. As you know, everything in Boot Camp is just an exaggeration of the fleet.
My platoon had a brand new Drill Instructor join us the start of our finals week before going to Edson Range. Saw his class graduate as we were returning from chow, at least I think it was graduation. Alpha Company.
I went through when they had corporals on a drill field and Lcpl at MCT who are getting ready to pick up corporal. Too bad they don't let them do that anymore rank was really highly respected more so than it is now in my opinion.
I remember hearing Cpls were allowed at DI school merely because they were on edge to pick up Sgt, I don’t think Cpls have been allowed to be DIs, just allowed to go to the school right before promoting.
I remember her during receiving ( was the cycle of Lima right after the female cycle) everyone had a huge crush on her one dude would fuck up on purpose just to get her attention
Unlike the other services, the Marine Corps typically assigns their rising stars to be drill instructors. They look and act like the ideal poster boy or poster girl. The female DI trainees in this video are at a good height if they're assigned to train men. The average young man today is 6' or taller. A woman, who is at or close to 5', won't look scary to male recruits no matter how tough she acts. A female DI trainee needs to be taught how not to shrill her voice when speaking loudly or yelling. It's hard on others' ears, but more importantly she could lose her voice or damage her vocal chords doing this.
The female Drill Instructors are only training females and make Drill Instructors are training males. They're starting to send female recruits to San Diego in February. That's why you see a female student Drill Instructor
You should do what best fits who you are. Do your research. Take your time. The last thing you should do is let a recruiter pressure you into something you can't get out of.
Plz scan the female drill instructor ....she might be evading arrest or not Did they not realize they stole someone's book......? They ruined people's mind with that book.....they did it...
El Mike - Why? Is MCRD SD training women? I thought all women recruits took basic training at PI. Why train women as DIs in SD if there are no women recruits? I wouldn't want a woman wandering around the squad bay as I came from the showers or while getting dressed. If the DI is barred from the housing then they are not doing equal work with the male DIs. Pretty sure women recruits would not appreciate a male DI in their barracks area.
