I thought I was the only one (three years for me). These videos still make my nervous and force me to check my six for a lurking DI. It's too bad that they don't seem to show any IT or "hands-on wall-to-wall counseling."
Geeze... watching this videos about boot camp brings back so many memories.. I am a Marine and currently I am in Pensacola, FL... in MAT division awaiting my AM training (AirFrame Mechanic). I tell you what.. YOU WILL HATE BOOT CAMP while you are there.. but once you get out.. you actually start to miss it..
@hurleyOC no i meant, the sleeves on their shirt arent rolled anymore. its common to have tattoos but you still have to have a waiver. if you do have a tattoo and it is extremely noticeable the DIs will make you wish you never got it. but dont worry it will pass in 13 weeks
@hurleyOC you will have to have a waiver for it, it wont be as hard to get now since marines are required to have sleeves all the way down. you will get hammered in boot camp though
Look at the Speed and Intensity of those 1st phase recruits. Hell yea! You don't see that anymore, nowadays they just growl and not sound off or they whisper to the DI'S. Motivating. Takes me back to 1996 mcrd San Diego.
@DSTheChris some recruits get used cammies, known as fat body cammies because they are larges and by the end of boot camp they wont be a large anymore so they get new ones at the end that they fit into, this way they dont waste money
To be honest this reminds me of Army Basic at Benning. I never really dug the whole in fighting between Marines and Soldiers, I understand espirit de corps, but to be honest I see very little difference in the training as a whole. Now days might be a different story since the Army started lowering it's standards, either way, much love.
Wow! I actually lived in that barracks at the begining. 1983, 3rd Bn, Mike Company, Plt 3059, Senior Drill Instructor SSgt Lopez! Drill Instructors, SSgt Pendland, Sgt Little and Sgt Woods!
It's tradition and a little "showing off". When you first start boot camp the cadence is precise and clear but as you progress and get comfortable with your Drill Instructors voice, he just adds a little "spice" to it. Some don't yodel, some add their own tones and sounds. Later on in training, if another Drill Instructor from another platoon tried to call cadence with you, you would not understand his commands because of his "personaltion"
@@sebastianb180 I ended up not enlisting until way, WAY tf later and i went guard instead. Did okay. Actually on the plane home as i type this. What a long strange road it's been.
@SuperSalty23 What you don't see is the Firewatch, not knowing what hour you got until the recruit wakes you up, those annoying planes (San Diego only), peanut butter is gold in boot camp so eat a whole jar now while you can, if you don't miss home then you're going to miss home, field daying the heck out of the squadbay, can't take shits and very limited tp, chows are your track of time, don't go for squadleader or guide until the crucible, swallow ur chow and go, dying to sleep during briefs..
As long as everyone is around the same height, you'll be just fine. When I went to Encampment (Civil Air Patrol) there were a lot of shorter cadets there. So it took a little while to get used to it.
it's a 13 week course, they dont let you in if you are obnoxiously over weight, but the intense pt will force you to lose weight and if you aren't losing it fast enough they'll put you on half rations which sucks ass. lol
I think everyone after they get out put on at least 20lbs. I had to do the same thing after looking at some old photos back in 08. Only thing I could think of was what the hell happened to that guy? After that I lost all 20lbs again.
My rhythm is horrible..does that mean i cant join the military?? Im in shape-ish not over weight or anything like that jst dont workout. I am 17 and im thinking about join the military. I have asthma but its not bad i haven't had an attck in years. So can i join or would it be harder for me?
+Anthony Caballero Biggest ones I have: Don't quit no matter what happens. You're going to get pissed off, frustrated, upset and angry, you'll miss home and your friends and family but don't think it isn't worth it in the end. No matter what, do your best to not think about the time. If you think about time, it will haunt you. Keep pushing yourself beyond what you can do but be careful and listen to your body, especially when it comes to dehydration. If you are going to MCRD San Diago, the hills will end sooner than you think. If you are going to Parris Island, South Carolina, don't scratch no matter how bad you itch. Just remember this as well; night will come by sooner than you know, you will make some friends out of it so know that you are not alone, have some fun with it and PT when the chances arise (you will thank yourself for doing it) and in the end, once you are on top of the Reaper (San Diego) or on the Parade Deck right next to the Iwo Jima memorial (Parris Island) and you get your Eagle, Globe and Anchor, you will know it was worth it. You will see your family and friends again back home. One huge, huge tip at the end: Do. Not. Leave. Anyone. Behind.
+Anthony Caballero For Third Battalion, it is intense. I was Mike Company, Third Bn. when I went through four years ago and it was non-stop the entire time, especially with the DI's I had. Just keep your head up and always watch your six.
Well, he is wearing running shoes, so I would think that he is hurt. Not really sure. Maybe they made him wear that to know that he is an injured recruit?
like hey got injured or sick and u went to medical the corpmen can give u a light duty chit pretty much means no pt and in boot camp no marching thats why he isnt wearing boots
you would practice so much you would eventually get it down picture perfect lol...i had to do drill in the navy bootcamp, of course marine drill is more hectic but all drill is pretty much the same and marine bootcamp is 4 more weeks longer than navy bootcamp.
Can anyone else still feel that anxiety level in their soul. its been 4 1/2 years for me and when i see this makes me feel like i am back there.
I thought I was the only one (three years for me). These videos still make my nervous and force me to check my six for a lurking DI. It's too bad that they don't seem to show any IT or "hands-on wall-to-wall counseling."
Absolutely!! It's been since 97" i drove my heels on that parade deck.

4:16 Holy Shit, that was my Drill Instructor!!! Staff Sergeant Navarro, got chills hearing that cadence.
I use to live for guided discussions at OCS... it showed the true personality of our SI's or (Drill Instructors)
@hurleyOC it has to be 4 inches above your wrist to were you can't see it when you extend your arm in your dress blues.
There's some kind of beauty in the intricacy of drill.
3:51 candence sounds sooooo good...my man singing
@hurleyOC no i meant, the sleeves on their shirt arent rolled anymore. its common to have tattoos but you still have to have a waiver. if you do have a tattoo and it is extremely noticeable the DIs will make you wish you never got it. but dont worry it will pass in 13 weeks
I love the video quality on this. But most of all Loving the Marines I have an uncle and cousin who were in the Marines. :)
I'm so relieved that someone is not yelling at them. I miss you baby soOo much @SD rn, platoon 2175 can't wait to see you MI AMOR in November.
respect for them though, they're what made us who we are
YOU made you who you are… with help :)
@hurleyOC you will have to have a waiver for it, it wont be as hard to get now since marines are required to have sleeves all the way down. you will get hammered in boot camp though
Holy Shit!! Remember marching like that in first phase. Like you had gum on your shoe

What song are they singing around 3:40 to keep time?
that's not fair...just because someone has asthma doesn't mean they wont be able to keep up with great soldiers
some R&B vocals when the guys is saying left right left.
Can't wait to be out thier in a year!!!

@@sebastianb180 I ended up not enlisting until way, WAY tf later and i went guard instead. Did okay. Actually on the plane home as i type this. What a long strange road it's been.
great videos but i would like to see some more posted on some more weeks of training
at about 1:00 when they are marching what is the guy in the back with different camy's on?
I don't understand how this all works? Do they make you lose weight in the process of all this training? And how long exactly is training?
they are still nasty at this part of training.
They've got A4's now? When did that happen? I was PI though.
I leave for PI on September 23rd. It's gonna be fucking crazy.
@philipinoidiot its all at the discretion of the DI's now Ive heard alot of them still do it though

Do all recruits do the line drills with their rifles (One hopscotch two hopscotch)?
I want to go already. I wish my medfax could just hurry the fuck up.
what do they say 1 something 2 something when they go to left shoulder arms?
@ussoldiersm316
i was at san diego we wore desserts most the time until phase two but that was 2010
it's a 13 week course, they dont let you in if you are obnoxiously over weight, but the intense pt will force you to lose weight and if you aren't losing it fast enough they'll put you on half rations which sucks ass. lol

Tony Mueller Hey man thanks for the advice. Is it true what they say about 3rd recruit training battalion? Are they really machines lol
+Anthony Caballero For Third Battalion, it is intense. I was Mike Company, Third Bn. when I went through four years ago and it was non-stop the entire time, especially with the DI's I had. Just keep your head up and always watch your six.

That recruit is on light duty. Probaly has a minor injury and is not allowed to participate in any physical activities.
You get your boots at week 2?
He sure is indeed but thats good he has warrior characteristics and brings out the warrior ethos
Possibly light duty or something. Or he had a boot waiver.
Whats this guy talking about @5:36 recruit should yell shut up im asleep from?? I dnt see a recruit
The Drill Instructor is calling cadence and it's in a sing-song manner.

What's up with the lighter marpat?
Can't you PT on your own?
whys your name themarineinfantry if you havent even left for boot yet??
hey isnt werid how marines at parris island wear desert and san deigo uses woodland
Well, he is wearing running shoes, so I would think that he is hurt. Not really sure. Maybe they made him wear that to know that he is an injured recruit?
Remind me to not go in Basic Training when you do. Lol But then again that makes it all the more fun.
Whats a light duty recruit
the bayonet course looks fun.
like hey got injured or sick and u went to medical the corpmen can give u a light duty chit pretty much means no pt and in boot camp no marching thats why he isnt wearing boots
