Join me while I freedive spearfish a bluefin tuna that weighs more than I do! @SuatYigit & Berk Aktan of VIP Fishing Tours invited me to Turkey to hunt and freedive spear fish the most highly sought-after fish for sushi and sashimi, the bluefin tuna! I ended up catching a tuna that weighed 161.2 pounds! We brought it back to the dock and after weighing it we handed it over to the local restaurant to prepare and had a big feast with a bunch of other fishermen and their families. The next day we stopped at Ephesus and Virgin Mary's House on our way down to Didim where we stayed at Berk's family home and had an incredible meal made by his mother who is a famous Turkish chef! wow I was blown away by Epheseus and Virgin Mary's house.... I was there as a kid when living in Turkey in '72... NO tourists, NO buses, and NO organized tours: was completely wild. The spear fishing brings fond memories of my first ventures then.....Epic trip !!!

Lauren, You mentioned in a previous video about a sinus issue. Eustachian tube dysfunction is often overlooked in divers and pilots. I recommend you look into AERA Eustachian Tube Dilation (an office procedure). If is sounds like something you experience, please let me know and I'll refer you to a colleague.
Thank you so much for the recommendation. It turned out that a medication I was taking at the time was causing extreme inflammation and that's what was affecting my sinuses. Luckily I figured it out and now everything is back to normal, but I really appreciate your offer!

Hi Lauren, super vlog very educative about what materials you use when spearfishing. I was very impressed that you are also interested in European history and yes Turkey is very beautiful with a valuable and rich history, I did a tour there once done. I have another question for you, what do you put in your diving suit to put it on. What can also be said is that you are a strong woman when I see you struggling with the weight of the tuna, well hats off there are many men who wouldn't do this.

Lauren, I know many countries have limits on how much meat you can export on what you harvest. Secondly, the transport of that meat can also be a challenge. I have not seen a video of that process but many have mentioned it as well.
In my experience you can travel with 50lbs. of fish with most airlines.

at 5:05 to 5:06 I wanted to go spear fishing in the boat for hot tuna.
Nice job, however, you can see the shaft did not penetrate the fish entirely, the slip tip was just stuck inside the fish probably because tuna has very tough skin. More powerfun gun would be better to reduce the chance of fish injury without landing it. You probably don't need something crazy with 6 bands, but enclosed truck speargun with 3-4 16 mm bands would do it, especially if you do a tail shot. Great catch anyway, congrats!
