A story to caveat on your point; We had a private that was 5’4 120 lbs dry (he bulked up 135lbs) with a new guy mindset and was slaving away in S3. 6 months in the Army and another 6 months in scouts for a total of 1 year. As scouts we got 2 slots per quarter (no pre-Ranger). He took the slot and came back with his tab as a PFC and 115 lbs, he would turn heads but he was waived to E4 instantly and shortly after hitting TIS he got his E5.
Retired infantry here. Run and run some more get that stamina up. Lift weights pull ups, squats and sprints are the most important. If your a thick body get a next workout strap and get a big ass neck. Learn the nco creed ASAP. Get a EIB, Last never fing quit.
Awesome video! I was active duty for 3 years and national guard for 4 years, total of 7 years since I enlisted in 2013. Going back active duty though. Everything you said was on point. A lot of young soldiers don’t realize all the opportunities they can get in the army, especially in the infantry. Keep up the good videos!
Video definitely deserves more views. I wish young guys coming in would look up videos like this along with the typical bootcamp/cool training videos. These are keys to not only infantry but life itself! And I love the infantry for this because the only way you CAN enjoy and LOVE what you do is for these reasons ! I went in with these same values as a boot and was promoted to Meritorious Corporal before I even hit 2 years in service ( 0311 Rifleman ). Have these values. Train hard. Study hard. Don’t be a “ yes “ man. Tap into your competitive and hungry nature, destroy and run shit at your level ! And never look down on one of your peers unless you are picking them up.
After a 3 year break in service I’m going reserves to finish the rest of my IRR than maybe go NG after. Crazy that paratroopers are trying to go to air assault school with all the hate we get from you guys lol but same at the 101st if you wanted airborne school you had to pass ranger school and CIB was “better” than EIB. Now I regret not trying harder to get my EIB. After a break in service had a lot of time to reflect and learned a lot of how I can guide myself in the army. All my peers are all E5 and above now and I’m picking back up as an E4. Privates that i mentored on basic infantry skills went on deployment got their CIB and are getting promoted to E6.
VERY helpful tips, 11X here, and ship out in July. Already looking to volunteer airborne/Ranger at OSUT, if not, then continue to stay humble and never quit.
Do it dude. It’s so simple to have a successful career right out of the gate if you just invest the work early on. Get that tab and EIB, and if you’re in an airborne unit go to Jumpmaster. If you do those things in your first 4 years, you’ll promote ahead of everyone and be smooth sailing the rest of your career.
@@NemeanIndustries hell yeah! this video pumped me up even more, I'm going in as E3 as well. now im checking out the Veteran to Veteran podcast. thanks bro.

I’m going back in after a year out of service , thanks for the info brother
I did the same thing. Took that break, gave me a much better perspective.
I honestly thought I hated it and thought I had more opportunities out in civilian world. But turns out I was better off staying in.
