Another thing. I can't answer every question about what branch every mos is a part of. A Quick google search should give you an answer.
you have been an awesome beacon of knowledge. its really like the viewers are getting the inside scoop of whats its all about and we thankyou for that
Matt Ward I have two videos posted on my channel. I feel like you can cover it as well if you are able to or maybe to a collaboration regarding the 2 topics I discussed. ( ARNG/AR to the Active Component) and (Overpayment Debt in the army)
What percentage of the Army is in combat arms?
@@CAARaeed probably you could Google that. But most Soldiers literally support the Infantry because the Army is focused that way. They "Close with and engage with, and destroy the enemy", but to get to that stage it requires everyone...One Team, One Fight.
Would love to see a video on how to go actuve from guard/ reserves and not just the basic try and submit a dd368 but the realistic expectations of the process too
Reminds me of what my PSG told me when he was in Iraq back in 05. They had two soldiers (support MOS, they didn’t go out on missions with the rest of them so they didn’t see any combat) stay in a watch tower. They took contact and reported that they were under fire and what they should do, since they weren’t specifically trained to take aggression. The higher ups simply radioed back, “return fire”.
What more to do?
This is why basic warrior skills are a thing. I dont care if my guus are signal, they're going to know how to hold a position and return fire.
lol reminds me of that scene from Black Hawk Down.... "sir they are shooting at us..." and Tom Sizemore is like " well shoot back!!" lol classic
More to the story. I was @Fob Falcon 04-05. 2nd rotation from initial push. ROE shifted from kill everything to hearts and minds and you better be justified or we will fry you. Insurgents road up and down highway shooting at the towers. Finally, Base CO had mass formation stating, you feel in danger, handle your business. After that, we started f#$% them up.
They went thru basic and didn’t know the three Ds and return fire
I wish a marine would do this video, every single person who joins the marines swears like their boot camp is navy seal training
Kevin Diaz BUDs
The issue is that the marines pride them selves on being the shittiest branch to be in. That’s not even a joke or taking a shot at them, they essentially take pride in the fact that their Basic Training is the most intense (to a very unnecessary degree), they see the worst combat zones when they deploy ( I imagine this is depends on the person, since I’ve meant marines who have never seen combat and have been in a “combat zone”) and overall have the most toxic people. The kind of people who never got over high school and feel like they have something to prove to everyone around them.
Although to be fair, once you get through the trash, you’ll find some extremely effective soldiers. Like legitimately the best there are at what they do, to the point that they basically carry the good name of the marines on their back. But don’t join the Marines if you can’t handle the typical “jock” stereotype person, because while they are all over the military, they seem to sadly gather in the Marine Corps Infantry.
Edit: I just reread my comment and realized I said “effective soldiers” and cringed. Yes, I know lol
@@laneheis4541 there's a reason more Marines become Soldiers than Soldiers becoming Marines.
Danijel Mornarić oh no Ik I’m just saying you have to go through BUDs to become a Seal
Mr. K.I.S.S Most definitely, not to mention that the army is usually pretty fast about promoting people. Although that also depends on points and open slots, I think it’s just because it’s a bigger force.
All of them can see combat NOT will but you can most definitely. My DS back in basic told me when u get deployed, you are a soldier. & you do whatever the leaders want you to do. Not only necessarily your job
Ok, sure you’re right....but this isn’t WW2 and a massive scale war that would require more numbers than we have isn’t likely to happen anytime soon.
There is less than 1% chance someone who isn’t in a combat MOS will be asked or told to pick up a weapon and told to fight...
Hell, a lot of infantry units go on “combat” deployments but don’t see one firefight for that 9-12 months. It’s not uncommon for that to happen this day and age.
So for all you non combat MOS folks, don’t even think about being in combat, it will do you no good. Just focus on your MOS and worry about being proficient in that. .
That’s a pog thing to say
devonbennett Dont trip u ain’t the only one on my sack hatin
@@YouReallyDontKnow fobbits get mortared and have rockets shot at them, and plenty have been KIA/WIA outside the wire. Mike Papas get shot at regularly. The Casualty rate was relatively low compared to say, 11B/19D, But high for 31B...it's all relative to how many troops are in a given MOS and what their actual Missions were. Kicking in doors , patrolling dismounted in Baghdad, getting shot at, having people you know get killed and wounded, I experienced all of it. From Invasion to 9 months later, just one long slog of unpleasantness....But that's what I was trained for.
I stop following when you said my "DS from Basic...."
Only combat you're gonna see nowadays (unless you're SOF) is a water gun fight at the Camp Arifjan pool 😂
I am 11b for ten years now and I have three combat deployments, let me shed some advice from my personal experience. Don't pick an MOS based on what looks cool but doesn't give you civilian benefits when you get out. Pick an MOS that translates well for the outside world for example signal opens alot more opportunities then infantry in the civilian world.
11b1p, you hit the nail on the head. Got out in '13 and getting a job was difficult sometimes wish I went to a different mos or did special schools. It's been a long road because the college only gave me 6 credits for just completing basic didn't even count airborne or SERE school but I'm now in Med school woo lol. This grunt figured out the block shape test.
I chose 88M for that exact reason. Lots of driving jobs in the civilian world that love to hire military personal
@@coepierceall6318 see it translates well with certification. To many look at it as a short term job and few make the military a career so thinking big picture for yourself is crucial.

Hey Matt, you know I’ve always seen your videos from a perspective of thinking of joining the army but just recently I actually enlisted so now I’m in it. Gives your videos a whole lot more meaning and I sincerely appreciate all that you do. You’ve helped so many and ease a lot of people’s stress. Thank you Matt, bless your heart Sir.
Congrats on joining and thank you! I appreciate you saying that :)

Brian Torres thatS great man for real. I leave September 8th cause of the corona virus
Wow , this is such an informative video. The detailed answer the the question Ive had so much trouble getting an answer to. Thank you Matt
Heading to bootcamp tomorrow, but have to go to meps today first to make sure I don't have the coronavirus. Going as a 68W, your videos have really helped me.
Golden Rhino7 good luck. You will be fine. I’m medical you will go to San Antonio after for AIT. Enjoy.
Much love and respect to the medics, good luck man. Learn and have fun.

Im a 19d don't know when I'm going to be ship but they say it might be soon
Did you have to do an inspect?
Thank you, this vid really helps
Thank you so much for this video. A lot of helpful info. Was very happy once you mentioned you're a Signal Officer. Currently in AIT training as a 25U, so this video gives me a good idea of what to look forward too.
YO THATS MY MOS! I have with option 40 but how is it
You didn’t talk about 19D (CAV scouts), but for all you thinking about enlisting as CAV scouts, yes that is a direct/indirect combat MOS.
I know CAV scouts who were at one point kicking down doors in Iraq and doing similar missions as infantry guys.
Cav scouts and infantry both hate to say it but scouts are very similar to infantry, they just focus primarily on reconnaissance, but combat is definitely something to think about when deciding if you want to be a scout.
YouReallyDontKnow thanks I’m leaving on August 30th Fort Benning 19D lest get it! 💪🏻
Good luck man, hope you enjoy learning some new things. Take as many notes as possible and go over them on your free time.
It might suck to you but trust me once you get to your unit you’ll be amazed about how much more relaxed things are. Good luck man

An easier way to view the military is use the term "branches" in a more literal way, the army for instance. Instead of just a branch, think of it as a tree, a tree has dozens of roots that ultimately serve to bolster and feed the tree. Each root has it's own responsibility when it comes to holding up the tree and nourishing it. :)
Bro what
Sean Lukentina Co A, 82nd Signal hit attached to 2/325th Grenda 1-27-83. Died from wounds 6-30-84. RIP brother, you'll never be forgotten.
Great overview and emphasis. I would add that the unit you’re assigned to while deployed will determine your exposure to risk. I’ve also seen cooks turned into resupply and travel with personnel clerks all over Iraq to experience the abnormal on a routine basis. OIF I & II.
Great topic.
For any 68W (Combat Medic Specialist, it depends on your duty position, it's a toss up, you are either gonna be embedded in a line unit, working in a forward aid station, or even in the rear working in a hospital, most other 68 series and medical will not see front line combat but depends on duty location
Thanks! Im interested in 36B aka finance this helps a lot!!!
Correction Matt, Adjutant General's Corps is mostly clerical. They send soldiers for training, TDYs, write promotions, plan military exercises, etc. JAG Corps are lawyers and stuff.
Thank you for this video. I enlisted in the Army back in January as a 91B (Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic) and I was curious as to what to expect. I ship out to Fort Jackson for Basic Training on July 14th so I’ve been watching a lot of videos to mentally prepare myself.
I leave as a 92f on September 5 to fort Jackson. See you there
Zaytin see you there.
How was it looking into this myself
How did it turn out?
GREAT video! I love the Charlotte love in the back! Do you have any advice for a 25Q?

It’s a sign ;)
Ran CLPs from TQ to Ramadi(Commando/Corrigudor) every 3rd Day 2006-7. Rt Michigan was quite fun around the 55 grid line.
Sweet I chose 25b as well. Working on getting my bachelors to try for OCS when I'm done. I really want to deploy and go so imma fill out a DA-160R form when I'm back from basic and see where that takes me.
Can you make a video about differences between combat and non combat deployments what are missions like whats pay like etc
So interesting, sir.
Good video sir! Quick question, what do you recommend for a reservist POG like me (I'm in a combat support MOS) to get more tactical training? Honestly, I think my best bet is to reclass to infantry/FO and go active... But I'm looking for something to expand my tactical skills in the meantime... Aside from reading out of a book.
Hi Matt, really love your videos they’ve been helping me out a lot. I’m planning to enlist in special forces as soon as I can. I was just wondering at basic training can I wear a ankle brace or tape my own ankles quickly in the morning? Thanks Matt! Keep up the great content!
At basic you dont have anytime in the morning. You have approximately 5 minutes to make your bed, shave and change into OCP uniform and toe the line. To answer your question, no.
Logan Crouch thanks for the info and reply!
@@kyleclancy4851 yeap BT is a very fast paced you will barley have enough time to get up haha
I had an uncle who served 8 years in the marines and saw combat. His younger brother, joined the marines a little after him and had the same MOS but didn’t see combat. Idk what to say about that.
Goin to boot next year as 12B 👍🏼 im excited
How is that? What do the officers do?
Hey Matt, I go to bootcamp on August 24th for the Army. My mos I chose is 14t. Is there anything about 14t that you know of?
Hey Matt, first off love your videos as I’m about to be joining and getting all the info from you has been great! I was told though that if I started off in reserves and then in my second contract went active duty I could have some say in where I get stationed? I’m looking at the CBRN mos and didn’t know how true this was? Insight from the pro?
So in your re-enlistment contract, you would basically pick a top few duty stations you want, however none of them are guaranteed as it's a "needs of the Army" kind of decision. I would bank on probably not getting your top pick but like 50/50 for getting top 3. Basically just don't hold all your reasons for going active at a particular duty station.
Matt... My son and I watched a ton of your videos before he enlisted and before he shipped - the most helpful info for new soldiers on RUclips by far. Thanks! He's a 19 D Cavalry Scout and had just arrived at his duty station before everything locked down. Question... Why do the Infantry guys hate the Scouts so much? His temporary room mate was a 11 B and couldn't stop talking crap about his MOS. I get some of the rivalry stuff, but this guy was over the top. Is this normal within the Army?
It's normal but I'm sure some privates go over the top... Kinda annoys me. Also, Cav Scouts have a motto, "If you ain't Cav you ain't sh*t". So, it goes both ways. Just remind him to not let it get to him. Infantry always has a big head. It's drilled into them during training.
Everything Matt said is true.
I’m a CAV scout and the scouts and infantry guys take the whole rivalry thing to heart...I’m one of the few scouts who don’t care for the rivalry and name calling thing and once both sides see that in someone they eventually just leave you alone with that Bs.
It’s not personal, it’s just guys being idiots, your boy will be just fine
11x shipping to ft Benning April 26th can’t wait!
ayeee ill be goin to benning
Witch mos or branch of the army gets to travel more or get deployed more
I'm going to BCT May 4th with a SF candidate contract. Originally I was suppose to ship march 24th but got delayed.
@MattWard could you please make a video of how to properly shape and wear a beret?
Hey brother. I'm trying to decide between 11b and 13f. I like the idea of 13f in regards to calling in airstrikes and stuff but still want to do 11b'y stuff. Advise?
Does anyone know anything about the 14x mos. I plan on enlisting and there isn’t much about it on the internet in terms of ait and day to day life and deployment.
I leave to basic on the 11th of may as a 68w a bit nervous but excited aswell
Don’t be nervous, if you like to learn new things and enjoy a challenge you’ll love it...if you don’t get stuck in a platoon full of idiots lol.
Just remember to take as many notes as possible and to study those notes regularly. As a 68W you’ll have a good amount of info to retain, it’ll seem intimidating but the medics in my unit Say it only seems that way and that it’s not as hard as it seems the more you learn.
Best of luck to you, have fun!
I'm an 88M and I was in Distribution Platoon in an FSC and most of my platoon got CABs as the Taliban was shooting rockets at us every few days. So it all just depends on where you get placed in the fight. I will say it isn't as scary as you would think and I wouldn't trade those months for the world.
What do you know about 91H - Track Vehicle Repairer? Any information at all (hours, chances of deployment, day to day, are they stationed overseas, etc.).
Tracked Vehicle Repairers do everything Wheeled Vehicle Mechanics do. They may be specifically trained to repair tracked vehicles, but just like any Field MOS, they may be asked to work on wheeled vehicles if there is a shortage of such. Keep that in the back of your head..you will hear that again. Hours depends on whether you are forward deployed or in some kind of facility doing Depot Level Maintenance. There are Tracks Overseas. If a Unit goes to Kuwait without Vehicles, it's because there are Pre-Deployed vehicles there.....you will work long hours getting them ready.
BTW, I'm not a Tracked Vehicle Repaired, but everything I have written, I have seen with my own eyeballs. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
Out of mp, combat medic or combat engineer which one is more likely to see combat if deployed in reserves
Hey Matt? Have you done a video on what the process is for becoming an officer via the OCS route? I am interested in becoming an officer in the Army after I graduate college in August and haven’t seen a bunch of information on what the process is. Thanks!
Nicholas Arellano yeah go to actual his page. He has a playlist on that specific topic.
Any reason you have not sought out ROTC for 4 years? What major? Also, with the Convid Virus, training of new OCS classes may be delayed.
Curious to know if you commissioned

I didn’t know you were a 25B before! I’m 18 and shipping out July 14th as a 25B with a airborne contract.
Yepp! Congrats on that, 25B is a great MOS. No bias at all 😄
Matt Ward appreciate that man! Any tips for basic training? Like workouts lol
25B here too, would also like to know tips..?
Dirt Dart humping commo equipment. Luck to you
I was 38A Civil Affairs in Iraq. One minute you’re handing out blankets and around the corner you’re breaking down doors. It all depends on the situation. Sometimes you’re the first unit of contact, which means you lead the fight even before, during and after 11Bs arrive.
I leave July 28th (68W) fort sill kinda nervous and anxious but I'm ready!
Don’t be anxious. Basic is as fun as u make it. Graduated from sill last October. Embrace the suck and try to focus on making it through the day. See u at Fort Sam Houston if I’m still here
Im 27 years old in the process of enlisting and I'm debating on going 14 series or chaplain assistant... Two completely different mos with different responsibilities. Sure to give me two completely different experiences. ADA looks very interesting and fun but I also wanna help those struggling with faith because I know how powerful and motivational faith can be. I'm meeting with my recruiter tomorrow to drop off some of my information and I think I'll have to ask more in depth questions. At this point in my life I dont think i can afford settling for any mos.
If you get bored with one MOS, you can re-enlist for something later as long as you don't make E6...pretty tough after that unless you go Special Forces or something like that.
Will combat engineers be in a lot of combat as infantry ?
I almost chose 68W but after further conversation with my recruiter I settled on 74D, leaving in 3 weeks for basic. My wife and I have gained a lot of knowledge and confidence from your videos, thanks Matt.
What made you switch? I'm interested in 68w. Was there any particular reason?
@@Tzippora100 it had nothing to do with the actual career itself and more to do with reserve unit location. And just a little to do with my wife worried about me being deployed potentially more often.

Also, field artillery can be used as “CAV Scouts” very quickly if your sent to a CAV Regiment then deploy to Iraq in 03. Tankers will be on foot patrol so fast too! Anything goes under combat arms no matter your specific mos. It happened and also stop loss. Don’t think these long shot things will not happen. They can and will!
Can you tell me if 32E-20 is a combat is this a signal MOS
this was a mos that was used in Vietnam
I wanted 25B but I never had when I enlisted. I am in the army reserves, when can I reclass in the middle of my contract.
What about 12C,what do they fall under???

Can you make a dedicated video to the 75th Ranger Regiment? How to get in, what they do, maybe a little history, what’s going on now. Not a lot of people know about it and you have a good platform to spread the information, I’m in pre rasp right now.
How to get in? Be in GREAT physical shape, able to retain information you learn, decent shot, finish basic training in a combat MOS that isn’t 19D (or a support MOS), complete ranger school and hope you get placed in the 75th.
What they do? Your typical special forces bang bang missions you kids see in the movies and video games. What the movies don’t show is that rangers actually specialize in training other countries militaries. That’s what most rangers do, training other people.
YouReallyDontKnow To join the 75th you need to pass RASP, Ranger School is a separate thing

@Matt Ward I really liked your last video about ARMY COOL. And was truly excited to go on there and search through every MOS. Have you tried using a desktop? It's possible that you may need to just hard reset whatever device you are using. government websites are always finicky but you should be able to make it in unless you have some additional securities on your device.
Matt Ward Sadly I don’t have internet right now so I can only use my phone that has data. And I have 0 extra securities. Just wondering can you get onto it on your iPhone?
halo7172 I got on my phone but I had to click other stuff and it sent me through multiple pages so try everything
If you are to choose between truck driver and refueling, which one of them is the best to choose?
It doesn’t matter honestly. 88M (Truck Driver) & 92F (Fuelers) both work hand & hand. You’ll literally be with them 99% of your career. More than likely when you come under fire if you’re a 88M or 92F it’ll be on Convoys delivering supplies such as Food, Water, Ammo, and Fuel. You’ll do a lot of Convoy Security too. It won’t be much dismounted action like the 11B’s go through. Nevertheless, combat is combat. If you experience it, you’ll experience it.

Has there ever been a finance person in combat? Only MOS besides paralegal I can think of not seeing combat or why would they be there.
25B here
Probably. Finance will go out on Paydays and make any adjustments to pay. A PAC Clerk can do it but it sometimes gets effed up. My Brigade Commander wanted the Troop's pay done right. It depends on the Command on how they want Finance Issues "Squared Away".
Got deployed for OIF 07-08 and our original mission and MTOE was scrubbed as the facility we were going to support was not even built yet. Ended up doing just about anything they could throw at us. First 2 squads in the platoon were MPs. 3rd Squad was a support element of supply, admin and cooks. So for a lot of our gun trucks the gunners or driver were a mix of that supporting squad. So I had a 50 gunner that was a 42A.
is a mortarman (11C) considered "safer" than 11B infantryman? I want to deploy in a combat zone but be within a less dangerous distance
Yeah probably, you’re gonna be at a protected base or further from the enemy dropping boom booms on them.
Take it from someone who deployed to a combat zone. Your MOS is irrelevant. The mission comes first. An 11C will be with the 11B doing the same stuff.
Then where would the 68w fall under
Will combat engineers be involved in a lot of combat like infantry ?
Yes
I just got out of the marines after 4 years active duty as a radio operator. Got bored wanted to join army nat guard as infantry or cave scout or airborne. Do I gotta go to army basic to do this getting back in?
Good question for the recruiter, I’m not an expert but I think you might not have to go back to basic because you were fairly recently active duty but idk national guard recruiters would know
I cant decide if i should join as an officer, or join right out of high school, i know you did a vid on this, but i dont know!
I recently signed a contract for 11x but didnt get option 4 or 40 bc they just weren't available and I honestly didn't want to wait to swear in as dumb as that sounds. Kind of regretting not signing a 25B bc it came with an option 40 gurantee. How hard is it to get a shot at rasp without it in your contract as an 11B? Anyone know?
It's not hard. I had an op4, but not 40 on my 11x contract. Fact of the matter is, poachers come to each graduation. They look for PT scores that qualify for rasp or airborne. The reality is, if you have an op 4, op 40, or both in your contract, you're actually more fucked than if you dont, because if you fail either school, your bonus is forfeit, and they just place you 11x anyway.
if you take 11x normal, but excel at bct, you've still got the chance to go op 4/40 upon graduation. You just need to be the best. AND you're still guaranteed your sign on bonus even if you don't qualify, and/or you don't take the op4/40 positions.
Much better to NOT have op4/40 on contract.
@@ripvanwinkle6449 Thanks for the info man. Ship in two weeks. Wish me luck.
I hear many people say don't go infantry... wouldn't infantry help you to stay more alert on deployments, help you to defend yourself better, more commradie (sp), helps you to stay in better shape, and better prepared you for law enforcement, fireman, construction work, etc.,etc....
I saw more combat OEF 09-10 As an MP than I did When I was in the infantry OEF 12-13
Saw quite a bit in Baghdad in 2003. It was the Wild West back then.
Hell yea MP pride
Facts!
Damn was gonna do MP, not anymore
Yeah I peep that 30th brigade patch up there 👀
Engineers are Manuever Support along with MPs, and Chemical
Ok so I’m shipping out as a 91b I just want to knw if I will get any combat experience??
Most likely not. Probably stay in the rear unless you are H8. But results may vary just because you train for one job doesn't mean you won't be used for another. It is always needs of the army
Watching matt ward videos at basic after finishing it. Lol
Days away from getting my class A cdl and I’m looking into becoming an 88 Mike!

So you can choose to grow a little bit of beard in the army?
63H20 (H8 Recovery) I went to Iraq twice. OIF 2 with the 1st Cav. I was direct support for Armor and ran missions with the poor dismounted cav. M1A2 were not very effective in Bagdad city streets. Seen plenty of combat as a mechanic. Second deployment i was with Direct support for 161 infintry WA national guard. OIF 5 I believe. The war was a defernt animal by that time. Much more mellow. Went on plenty of missions with the Grunts as it was better to repair a vehicle then to tow it 100s of miles. Didn't see much action but there was some. Just because you think you picked a reasonably safe MOS doesn't mean anything. Take all your training in regards to combat very seriously. The grunts made all of us support guys do every thing they needed to do, plus what we needed to do also. I told my company commander that if they needed us mechanic's to clear a house and kick in doors then we're truly F'ed. He just said if we ever got F'ed then kicking down doors and holding up could save your B'ts. Seriously don't ever think that you won't see combat regardless of MOS. Oh and I say that Ordinance Corp is direct support.
I'm a 91M Bradley Systems Maintainer, and I was told pretty much all through ait that since I'm ordinance and attached to 1st cav that I'd def get deployed and seeing combat is a real possibility
anything on the 91F MOS
I have a question. I am 41 years old. I have a bachelors degree in healthcare administration and currently in school for my LPN to RN bridge. I was wondering if it is still possible for me to join the army as an officer? Are there any age wavier? If so I would be interested next year when I graduate with my RN.
I believe the age cut of is 42, so you will just barely make it. Definitely go OCS for officer status. Bachelor is all you need. Start the process now, get your ship date BEFORE you turn 42, finish school during your service. get extra promotions for finishing school. retire at 62 with 20 years under you belt and a pension for rest of your life. Enjoy.
Whats the food like
Is there any youtuber that is similar to Matt's channel but is in the Air Force?
