That's great. Ford does say future software updates will add the ability to change lanes. Tesla's AutoPilot system is based on weight on one side of the steering wheel. Keeping a hand on one side of the steering will keep it happy. Tesla's AutoPilot system will change lanes on its own to get around slower cars with a top speed of 85 and will handle on/off ramps to get on/off different highways (it's billed as a ON-ramp to OFF-ramp system, including all highway changes in between). Just talking about AutoPilot which is available readily, not the FSD Beta that some users play with.
Hi Rick, AutoPilot is VERY impressive in many respects, which is why I'm stumped as to why true hands free steering hasn't been implemented in the mainstream version.
@@EVRider Part of FSD Beta includes the development and beta testing of the internal tracking camera, which would watch for driver attentiveness & cell phone use. AutoPilot does not currently have that capability. Once Tesla is able to get past beta for the vision tracking (to visually establish driver is alert in a reliable manner) then it will most likely migrate over to AutoPilot and thus hands-free would be possible. (Technically the FSD software stack will be taking over the AutoPilot software stack, but the end effect is the same). I think a lot of the news over AutoPilot investigations will get resolved this way. I think the 'recall' will be a new version of AutoPilot with internal camera monitoring.
Yep, Blue Cruise, or Lane Centering and Adaptive Cruise Control is reactionary. It is not anticipatory. It reacts pretty quickly, but your human anticipation is still required.
Interesting video. I have the exact same problem in my 2020 Explorer Platinum. GPS signal lost and the distance control fails. To solve it I stop and turn the vehicle off for 5 min and back on. Ford does not have a solution.
@Enthusiast Car Hanger, In my case the issue has never happened again. I have received a variety of over the air updates since then so perhaps Ford patched whatever the issue was.
So I understand that you can actually make long distances without touching the wheel? I'm suprised it does not warn you as you speak to the camera. How many seconds it takes before it does when you look away from the road?
I'd never trust it in that sort of tight, curvy heavy traffic situation where motorists are constantly cutting in and out, so I can't really say. However, I can say on a trip I took out west after this video was shot it gave up on some sharp curves.
I don't care much for blue cruise and don't plan on paying for it. Hopefully my lane keeping and anti collision will still work as I had all that with my 2018 prius. I'm hoping by eliminating blue cruise all that I loose is hands free.
At 0:44 , Blue Cruise is so amazing, because it's so tiresome to steer the car yourself. But wait! Ford says you have to be watching the road EVERY SECOND that Blue Cruise is operating. So what's the point?
Dee, I find on longer trips I'm less fatigued because it lets me stretch out and relax more. It's also more relaxing in stop and go interstate traffic situations.
@@EVRider Don't relax too much, because Ford says you have to be 100% ready to take over control of the car, *at* *any* *moment* . Lane keeping: a solution in search of a problem.
@@DerekDavis213 Yes, as I stressed in the video, the driver must always be prepared to take back control. Blue Cruise, or any current-day driver aide, is no substitute for paying attention. As to your comment about it being "a solution in search of a problem," I'm sure your opinion has been noted by those reading these comments.
@@EVRider I would love to have an Autopilot in my car that could truly drive the car, read street signs, enter and exit the freeway, detect potholes or glass or debris in the road, etc. Then I could just take a nap, or read a book, play a video game. An Autopilot that I could *trust* *with* *my* *life* would be amazing. But today's so-called Autopilots are utterly primitive (as in Neanderthal primitive), and you have to watch the road every second. So..... What's the POINT of Autopilot then!?
I can tell your around Jax and I 95 or 295 because you're going the speed limit and people passing like you're standing still. I hated living/driving there. Possible to get shot if you go the speed limit. hehe
What is the point of all this technology? If it can't drive autonomously, what's the point? You still have to concentrate on driving. You might as well drive. It's "we've got this piece of technology, and we're going to make you pay for it, even though it's useless as a driving aid". I'll pay for it when I can read and edit my RUclips posts while the car takes me to work.😂

I've never tried to time it since that would be unsafe but my best guess based on feel is somewhere between 20 and 25 seconds.
How does it handle the really curvy part of 95 through downtown Jacksonville?

How does it handle sudden punctures?
I have no idea.
I think only one toll road in Texas is more than 75 mph.

Will it still track my eyes if wearing sun glasses??
Yes. I've had the "watch road" warning go off when wearing sunglasses.

Think of blue cruise as 10 year old tech that doesn’t works as good as it’s supposed to. Thats what it is! Just get a Tesla!
