    If those are the complaints, then it's been positive overall. That's good. I'm still not ready for an electric, but that's looks and price. There's plenty enough range for my driving, and lots of good features. This sounds like it was a good purchase.

    I do find Ford not offering a heat pump bizarre. We have a Kia EV with the heat pump, and I haven’t noticed a big drop in range yet. Admittedly, we live in Atlanta, GA. However, I hear of owners in Scandinavia who have Kias and Hyundais with the heat pumps, and their range drop isn’t much in winter.
    All that said, I’m glad you’re enjoying the vehicle.

      Yeah, hopefully they offer a heat pump in the mid-cycle refresh or the next-gen. Seems like a no-brainer.

    I recently test drove a Mach-E and was surprised with a lot of their choices.
    -The button and handle to get in is very awkward
    -The large inside screen is nice, but it needs to be turned so its horizontal. Stuff at the bottom of the screen feels like its on the floor
    -A button to "start" the vehicle is odd in an EV. There's no engine to start. So you can accidentally leave it running.
    -The odd little handle to pull to get out of the vehicle could have been integrated better.
    -No way to easily select where you want battery to stop charging without having to select location first.
    I really enjoyed how comfortable the driver seat was.

    I've had my First Edition since March 2021 and other than a random bugaboo here and there (that frankly comes with all software-defined vehicles) and getting bit by the HBVC issue) we've had a great experience and I think it's the best car I've ever owned for all around fun, practicality, tech, looks, and comfort. It's every bit as fast, fun, and comfortable than the i-Pace I previously had, without the CONSTANT breaking down that came with the Jag. And it has so many useful features that the Model Y doesn't have (like 360 camera, rear cross traffic alerts, a gauge cluster, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay) it was a no brainier for us.

    I've pretty much had all the same issues on my Mustang Mach-E (Rear wheel drive, standard range battery). I swear before a few updates ago those tiny locks on my Mach-E didn't work but they work pretty much everytime now. It's happened with less frequency now but my Mach-E didn't always connect to my phone and that wouldn't be so bad if it didn't default to playing AM radio (got annoying static) or Sirius XM. I'm with you on the range loss in winter. Not surprised and nothing to sell my car over. I've lost about 100 estimated miles on a full charge but thats mainly because i'm blasting the heat. Not having a heat pump was the one big thing ford missed on the Mach-E in my opinion. My Frunk never randomly popped up unless I didn't close it right. Phone as a Key has worked pretty well for me. I accidently left the house without my Key and drove a few miles to the bus stop (missed the bus v_v) and only after going back to my Mach-E did I realize I didn't have the FOB on me. Edit: Not loading driver profiles is annoying and seems to be a new issue. At least for me. But if you hold down on the volume (on the steering wheel) and hold down the skip forward button for about 5-10 seconds it'll reset the center console which has fixed the issue (for that drive). Cool thing about the reset is it doesn't stop the car from driving. Just resets the big screen. Overall very fair video.

    So I’ve had my vehicle for almost 2 years. I was one of the first deliveries. I have about 22k miles on the vehicle. Here’s my issue with Ford at this point… the PaaK issues have been from day 1. Granted, it’s gotten a LITTLE bit better, but not much. Using the infotainment has always been abysmal (super slow as well), and somehow, the most recent software updates have made it worse. Profiles have always been glitchy, and mine also gets stuck in guest mode. Once they introduced dual phone mode, it broke CarPlay reliability (for me, wireless AND wired), as well as it just connects to whatever phone it wants and won’t let me switch. BlueCruise has been rather decent, but it likes to disengage without much warning or reason. And “cancels” in a spot where it doesn’t make sense to cancel. Here’s my thing… when you build a car around SOFTWARE, that software has to be damn snappy and RELIABLE. These issues shouldn’t take but a couple weeks to resolve via an OTA. Their OTA cadence is incredibly disappointing. I know you haven’t had the vehicle long, but coming from me who’s had it for nearly 2 years, what I’ve seen is unacceptable. Here’s to hoping the new interface that’s rolling out fixes these issues. If not, I will seriously consider replacing the car. I keep seeing people on the forums saying “just restart the head unit” (volume down and right track on steering wheel). Yeah, I get that it may resolve the issue. I’ve been forced to do it more times than I can count. However, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO IT. I paid $63,000 for this car and it should work every damn time I get in the vehicle, no questions asked. Rant over.

    Thank you for your comments which I mostly agree to, however, your remark on the phone as a key is not what I experience. I doesn't matter whether my iPhone is active or on standby to open the car. It is dependent on the FordPass app to be running in the background. So do not completely close the FordPass app in order to allow keyless entry with the iPhone, even if it is in standby mode.

    A lot of people complain about the EV range, just like what you said, if your regular commute is less than 100 miles per day, there is no need to worry about the range, if doing a lot of road trips, EV is simply not for you, just buy a regular gas or hybrid, no need to complain. For me, I do 99.99% city driving, EV/hybrid fits me better than a traditional gas car, I currently drives a Honda Pilot, it’s not a fuel efficiency car, and I plan on switching to hybrid or EV in the future, Honda Prologue, ZDX, new Pilot(if the hybrid version comes out later), or next gen RDX(if it has hybrid or EV version), or MDX mid-cycle refresh with hybrid, these cars are on my shopping list.

    As far as I am concerned, the majority of EV's on the market are too expensive, period. At least here in Canada they are. That's the single largest deterrent to buyers (even more than all of the unproven long-term reliability concerns that most folks have about them).

    Mach E GT Performance: phone asleep issue once (could not open the rear door with just the phone but I could open the drivers door then the rear opened). Glitch: This Trip does not always reset when the car is started. I have found a simple work around. Winter mileage: dropped from 260-270 to as low as 186. An update has raised it back above 220. Other glitch: I sometimes hear an alarm when I open the hatch. I cannot find a cause. Android Auto: the VPN on the phone blocks it. Turning it off (before I start the car) or plugging in (at any time) fixes that.

Door handles reduce aerodynamic efficiency which is why most EVs either try to get rid of them or have power-recessing mechanisms instead. I think Ford opted for the buttons because they'll hold up better over time than a fancy power-operated handle.

    • @BogeyTheBear
      @BogeyTheBear Год назад

      Heat is absolutely free in a gas car. Dialling the heat on doesn't _create_ heat-- the climate control merely _redirects_ heat that was already there into the cabin rather than have it dumped overboard via the radiator. An electric vehicle has to use power to either scavenge heat from the outside, or generate that heat outright.
      And idling for warm-up is a lifestyle choice-- some folks climb into a cold car and drive slowly until the oil warms up so they get actual mileage out of that fuel.

    The EV cold weather range is a given. That’s why I cannot buy one is because they don’t work for my commute.
    But the first few things you listed have a common trend; technology. And with that being the hot thing manufacturers are cramming into new cars, it makes you wonder how many issues we will have in the future. It’s kinda silly to need your phone awake for the key to work. Wasn’t the point of a phone as a key so you didn’t have to take your keys out of your pocket? Not a deal breaker for me but I could see theses as valid nuisances for some people.

    It's funny that you blame the car because your phone doesn't work with it, the fault could be in your phone. Second, you've bought yourself an electric car, but it's the car's fault that you haven't checked its range first. It's not the car's fault if you're not familiar with what you're buying. Do you lock the door when leaving the car? I don't lock myself because I always carry the keys with me. Our insurance company does not cover theft if the keys are not presented when the car is stolen. The video is pretty much a forced attempt to make faults that are 90% caused by the user and not the car..

    So a paltry 200 mile range on a single charge range and over 50k plus new? Not justifiable money well spent vs an eco boost 2.0 litre gas engine that does well on mpgs between fill ups. Two, just over technologized AND will be costly to repair once that factory warranty expires. Jeez what are the modern cars coming too?

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  Год назад +6

      I don't understand the range obsession unless you do a ton of daily driving. If you drive 200+ miles a day then yes, absolutely a gas engine is the better choice for that person.

      Trips. Overlay -20 celsius on top of that Xmas trip to go visit the in-laws here in Canada, and the range penalty becomes ridiculous. You lost 25%, folks here lose up to 35%. 640-650 km range on my G in the Summer, 580-590 km in the cold Winters we get North of the 48th.

      Yes, the true and tried eco boost 4 popper, 2.0 litre engine and a more simple designed interior without all the gimmicky do dads that will not hold up over time and will lead to very costly repairs once the warranty goes. Maybe better to lease and upgrade considering reliability issues will arise down the road. Design language is ok, but no where near the Mustang heritage, just styling cues to look like a Stang.
