I tried the hand walking technique tonight and it worked! I kept calm like you said and extended one hand after the other, and he cautiously climbed up each hand. Thank you very much for these helpful tips!
Thanks for this. I've had a baby crested for 3 weeks and held it twice so I could put him/her in the critter keeper and clean the tank. It's so fast and jumpy and just wants to run away so I'm looking forward to it being more tame and bigger to make it easier and less stressful for both of us.
Omg is having the same exact thing! Mine is already 4 months old and I’ve only had him for 1.... but god he’s so jumpy. Has yours been doing okay with the holding routine?
I have a juvenile and I’ve been practicing just letting him hand walk inside his terrarium so he can jump somewhere else if he decides to without getting hurt.
Thank you!! I got my first crestie yesterday and I’m trying to learn how to hold him while he’s getting used to his tank, so i can start holding him as soon as he’s comfortable
You have such beautiful geckos! I’m getting into the crested geckos, I’m still researching them and the care. I want to know as much as Possible about them before getting one. But when I feel comfortable enough to finally get one, I’m definitely getting one or two from you! Such beauties! ❤️
Crested geckos are one of my favorites, second place on my list would definitely have to be the crocodile skinks! :) I’ve actually thought about opening a small reptile rescue in my home since I recently bought a bigger house and have PLENTY of room to do so!
I ended up with one that, even as a baby, seems to have absolutely zero fear. This guy just wants to constantly be exploring everything, and the weirder the texture, the better.
Getting a cresty for my birthday and I’m really excited! They’re so precious- I have a leopard gecko so I feel like the diversity will be crazy since leopard geckos are more slow and they don’t jump, at least not in my personal experience. I’m very excited and already have a name picked out haha.
My little garg is absolutely awesome with handling, she’s so calm. Trying to actually pick her up is a pain. She run-jumps so fast, but once I get her to crawl on my hand she’s perfectly calm. Weird.
Thank goodness about some like being on the floor. My gecko Copper dosent really hide in the tree tops but usually climbs around on the floor. I have a 20 gallon on its side and he usually never goes up really high, he likes to stay low and sit in his hide.
Omg thank god I found your video. I haven’t found anyone to give me such amazing tips! I have a very lively 4 month old crestie and I’m having a hard time making sure I’m being good to him. I’ve been afraid to hold him in fear that he’ll get too stressed out!
My crested gecko has already jumped out of his enclosure a couple times to the point where I’m terrified of trying to hold him. He’s only about 4-5months old and I want him to feel comfortable with me.
In what manner do you recommend taking them out of the enclosure to be handled when they are still skittish? The rest of the advice is wonderful, but my biggest challenge is taking my sub-adult male out.
How can I feed my baby (and also very scared) crested gecko. She is too scared to be handled so I can’t feed her. What should I do???? There’s food in the tank too.
I can’t remember if he told y’all this but for new owners.... you can feel it when they are about to jump lol. They also are a bit wobbly when they first drop their tail.... they’ll learn though lol
Great video love your guys videos! I got a male crested gecko used to be real good at handling until I put Hollow core barks in there now every time you open up the tank he hides in there and you can't get them out
No breeder has geckos that ALL have their tails. Some drop them more easily than others. If your gecko still has its tail, it's a mix of good care and luck. Some people take amazing care of their geckos and they still drop their tails.
Do they get aggressive during mating? Does it pass as they get older? Would you suggest male or female for first time owner? About a year ago I got my very first cresty, And she’s like 14ish months now, I used to be so comfortable with holding her. But now I have this fear. Like I’m always too nervous to pick her up so I don’t anymore, today she jumped out of her tank while I was spraying it down. She ran and jumped off the table and fell to the floor. I was scared to pick her up because I was scared of her running more or biting me. What do I do?:(

how long should you wait before handling a baby crestie? i got mine a couple days ago and i don’t know how long i should let him get adjusted before attempting to handle him.
Go in slow and scoop him as he has to get used to it mine hated handling so I just scooped him up hand walked him until he calmed down and then put him back make sure your doing this where they can’t run far or into small spaces mine didn’t run just encase
Approach him slowly, make sure your hand is clean, with unscented soap, make sure all soap has been rinsed off. Let him get used to you and give him time. Gently prop your hand under him, while having a hand close to him, this might want to make him climb higher. I know this in a year ago but hopefully you still don't have this problem
@@Icantchangemyhandlehelp this is gonna be helpful, I’ve had my crestie for a month but still doesn’t want to go on my hand (just showing it for 5 seconds will make her walk slowly away from my hand)
Hey you guys, I hope someone might be able to help. My gecko is very easy to handle: He´s calm, likes to jump sometimes and does not run at all, he just likes to get up to the highest place just as explained here. BUT the issue is getting him out. He does not come onto my hand voluntarily, he scoots away from me if I get too close. Jjust as soon as I get him out he seems fine. What is that about? So: Shold I get him out to get him used to me? Even though it meens scooping him up despite his flight reflex? Thanks!
Hi! No, I did not. We actually decided to not take him out anymore because we did not want to stress him every time. There was no progress after six weeeks, so we decided on giving him time to adjust to us just from us cleaning hin terrarium, feeding him, spraying his tank and so on. He also pooped on us almost every time we got him out and thogh I know it can be just ja movement/temperature thing, I cannot rule out the possibility that this also was stress related. @@hiitsbryx9874

Just got one 3 months ago. Would allow you to handle it no problem. Now all of a sudden when I go to get it out of his enclosure. He starts making a cackling sound shakes his head real quick and shakes his tail. Or at times he'll do that then take off in his cage.
I got an almost 2 year old crested gecko two days ago and she’s very active at night and has pooped twice. Is she ready to handle or should I still wait a week for her to get used to the new enclosure?
So I just bought a male who is around 30grams and you can tell he wasn't handled at all. As soon as you touch him he starts running. What is the best way for me to get him to allow me to at least touch him and not freak out?
i made a mistake of trying to interact with my gecko like, 2 days after getting him (mostly because he looked really chill and didn't seem to mind my presence, sleeping in the open space and looking more curious than scared about noises) but it was too fast, he's much more cautious about me now and hides more. Hi, I know this video is a year old so I'm not sure if you'd see this, but I've had a crested gecko for about 6 years now, he was fairly young when I bought him but not a complete baby, but he's never been handled. At the time I feared that stressing him out would make him drop his tail as I wasn't sure how much pressure would make him do so as well as my dog eating him. Do you think it would be possible to handle him all these years later or just to leave him as that's what he's used to? Thanks a lot and nice gecko's!
I started feeding mine insects after 2 days of getting him (he is 4-6 months right now). I would just put one in his tank and the next morning it would be gone. They are good hunters so its good for them. Also like others said you don't have to feed them live insects but it is recommended to feed them live insects at least twice a month. Also I'm pretty sure there is a type of pangea with insects in it so that's also an option. 😄
What does it mean when my gecko is gasping and shaking his head when I am feeding him. (He acts just fine with I play with him. I have him for 3 weeks and he is 25 days old. )
They way this guy handles his geckos stresses me out. I can only imagine how that gecko is feeling. I can't say I recommend this as a good video on how to handle crested geckos.
I'm ok with handling him, the problem is picking him up! He is so fast and jumps off me back into the viv even if I do get him. I've watched videos on the best way to pick them up, but he is so fast! I've had him about 3 months and he is 2.
Yeah I hear you! In a couple clips I show how i pick them up. I put my hand in front and touch them from behind. That usually gets them to climb onto my hand and from there you hand walk. Might need to be quicker for a fast one though
my female crestie likes to crawl at my face and I always thought that she just hated me... and can you do a video on crestie sounds and their meanings, cause sometimes my crestie chirps in her enclosure and I don’t know if she’s in distress or wants me to hold her, I just don’t know.. THANKS !! Nice Video !!
The background music really reminding me of Xenoblade Chronicles X. It was bugging for a while that I couldn't remember what it was, so I thought I'd leave a comment for anyone else who is like, "Wait... what does that remind me of?!"
It honestly is up to you and your budget! Baby and some juvenile geckies are smaller and are more inclined to having smaller terrariums. Bigger tanks are usually more expensive. They also have a life span of about 10 years so if you get a baby it is more about comitment. If you choose that you dont want one then you have to find a good home for it. If you dont care what home it ends up in,welllll you probably shouldn't have it.
hi I was wondering what cage you are using I am trying to find one that is best for a crested gecko. I have been doing some research and saving up money to get my own!
My baby Gecko has been gaining weight pretty well and gained 2 grams since I got him a bit ago, but he just lost a gram (went from 8 to 7). Should I worry at all?
As long as you are doing everything right I wouldn't worry. Also sometimes the those gram scales are not too accurate. Also gotta take into consideration if he ate, pooped, etc when you weighed him..
I am in the process of gathering information and trying to learn as much as I can before I get my first crested gecko, and I really appreciate videos like this.

Thanks man! I just got a baby girl yesterday.
I have an eye crested gecko, is that the same?
What crested gecko should I start with baby, juvenile, adult?
It honestly is up to you and your budget! Baby and some juvenile geckies are smaller and are more inclined to having smaller terrariums. Bigger tanks are usually more expensive. They also have a life span of about 10 years so if you get a baby it is more about comitment. If you choose that you dont want one then you have to find a good home for it. If you dont care what home it ends up in,welllll you probably shouldn't have it.
hi I was wondering what cage you are using I am trying to find one that is best for a crested gecko. I have been doing some research and saving up money to get my own!
One of my adult geckos doesn't cooperate with hand walking. Not sure what to do about that.
I got my first Sunday and he opens his mouth and then bit me. I was being still and hand walking. Why do they do that
It’s probably not used to you yet, or it thought you were food
This might be a dumb question but if they bite you does it hurt?
i’ve been researching/wanting a crestie for like 2 years! my mom at first wanted one but one day she changed her mind and now i’m not allowed one. 😞
I was hoping you would show how to actually pick them up…I have a 4 m old juvenile and only got it yesterday…slightly afraid to hurt him.
Im sure its good excersize for the crested gecko to.😊 im thinking about getting one..
It thought my gecko was just hyper chill, but it turns out she’s pregnant, so I don’t know what’s gonna happen after she lays eggs
Does it hurt them to loose their tails? I mean if they drop them themselves.
harlyn blanchflower yeah I actually asked
my gecko he said it hurt 😢
I don't think it does but I dunno because the only lizard I ever had, never lost her tail, and she's a crestie
I got my gecko 2 days ago, he’s 7 months old and I haven’t handled him yet Bc he is almost always hiding, do I give him time or can I handle him now
So cute getting one I think very soon
Just got my Crested Gecko today. I named it Taffee. It is a juvenile.
TikisGeckos thank you! He seems to be healthy so I won’t worry too much.
Very excellent tutorial video!
Do you like crested or gargloys more
Is it ok if the gecko is always on you’re shoulder
Heyheyhey, great video 👍🏻 as you know love my girl 💃🏽
I just got 2 hachlings this was helpful thanks
