We went over a lot in todays video! Hopefully this helps all the people that were asking for the video! Remember to shoot me some ideas for names for specific geckos 😁
Hey, I’ve got a question. So can I pick up my crestie when it’s sleeping? Or will it drop it’s tail? Also do you think that Saruman is a good name for a white Dalmatian?
@@No0dl- You definitely can. I’ve done it before. I kind of treat them like snakes though tbh. Like a snake, I rub my hand along the gecko so they feel that you’re there, then I pick them up. I just do it to alert them and wake them up if they’re sleeping. But I’ve also picked them up out of a sleep and they’ve been just fine
I just got a crested gecko and I want to pick him up during the day but I’m not sure how to do it while he’s sleeping so I can get to some hand walking?
also, i would have one suggestion. when it comes to tutorials and advice videos, i highly recommend first showing exactly what the title of video says. it was really wholesome to watch you feed the ducks or show baby cresties, but it's the addition to the video, not the main point people usually click on it. For me as a viewer it felt almost misleading when you sudenly started showing ducks feeding after the introduction about lizards XD would feel much better if the construction of the video was like, introduction, handling tutorial and then something 'anyway guys lemme show you my ducks, they're cool'. just a little suggestion tho, video was really helpful and nice to watch! i like your vibe, u seem like a cool dude to hang out with
I originally planned on getting a juvenile or even adult because babies seemed so hard to take care of, and yeah they can be challenging since im so worried id they're eating. But seeing you and others handling babies and raising them makes me feel more confident about getting them as babies and growing them right. I got mine as a three month old and he seems to be doing well. Its only been a couple of weeks but he seems happy. Temp, humidity, enclosure size are good and hes pooping so means hes eating. Only thing now is my dubias. I swear they don't seem to be eating. Maybe their enclosure is too big.
I personally think growing them up is so fun. You get to see how they develop over time! Especially if you’re not breeding them and just keeping them as pets. That was my problem at first too! What are you feeding them? And what enclosure size are you using and how are you setting it up? I might be able to give some advice. I have 2 thriving colonies (I could probably break them into 5 or 6 colonies honestly lol)
@@tmreptile ok so I have them currently in a black 7 gallon tote with a cover. I think I have plenty of air circulation. Drilled small holes all around and even a big square which I covered with wire mesh so I can put a ceramic heat emitter, and I keep it at 78 degrees. I have a paper towel substrate, egg cartons and a piece of paper plate which I put apple core, small bits off peeled baby carrots, banana slices, and I just bought sweet potatoes. When I first bought them, they gave them to me in a small like clear yogurt cup, and when I first put them in the tub I did see the swarm the food I have about 3 dozen tiny ones since my gecko is a baby. I mean I bought them like two or three weeks ago and they're still alive. Every once in a while I'll see them get close to the food.
@@richardsanchez5444 It sounds like you’re doing everything right! You’re giving them a good diet, the enclosure sounds perfect for them. If you have little ones it may just be hard for you to see if they’re eating. Try giving them 1 small carrot or piece of carrot and see if they eat it. Or a piece of a dark leafy green. That’s what mine love the most. It should be somewhat easy for you to see if they ate off of it or not. If you want more/better breeding (in the future) I would suggest to bump the temp up a few degrees if possible. If you can’t do that with the ceramic heat emitter then I would use a heat pad (or heat tape) on a thermostat and attach it to the side of the tub (NOT the bottom). I have mine in the 80’s and they breed like CRAZY
Good question! I’d wait about a week at least. Do you know how much it weighs? I usually don’t recommend holding babies smaller than 10g unless you have to (for like cleaning purposes). They’re so small and can get hurt easily
A good rule of thumb as far as reptiles and soap goes is to use dawn dish soap and hot water. And make sure you rinse your reptile supplies off very well (I recommend rinsing twice) and you should be good!
I have a baby crested geckos I believe to be about 3/4 weeks old. Super tiny and Im not weighting it as it just runs away if I try to get it into a bin to weigh, how long should I wait before I try handling, this baby is super super tiny right now.
I tell people to wait until they’re 8-10 g to try and hold. Before then, only handle when you have to. Like for tank cleanings or stuck shed if it happens. Things like that
had a lot of trouble finding a good video about dealing with my guy for the first time, but this one's great! didn't know about the tail wag, super helpful
i havent hanfled bindi yet just calmly talk to her i do tong feed her i put just my 2 fingers in i dont want to scare herhavenr had her a month yet.shes doing great tho do you think 4th july fireworks will scare her ? its sorta noisy in my neighborhood 🦎🤔
I’ve only had one gecko lose their tail (knock on wood) so far and it was from loud thunder during a thunderstorm. I would say she has potential to drop her tail but it’s pretty unlikely
"A" has very pretty colour that remind me of desert colour scheme, so maybe something like Sandie from sand? or Fenny from fennec fox, since it's other desert animal? hmm
Mines 9 years old still has its tail, but has recently become aggressive, whenever i go mear his cage he gets super aggressive and tracks me down like prey. I just held him yhe other night and he almost bit me.. and even during the day now when he sees me he gets super aggressive and chases me through the glass.. i dont know whats happening, should i pick him up and just let him bite me to show he cant do anything and im calm?? Hes typically calm but the last few months hes just super aggressive and not sure whats happening.. its kindof scary tbh.
@@PuppetMaster-Blade That’s likely a feeding response or mating response. It thinks you’re a bug or wants to be friends with your hand more than likely lol
@@tmreptile what about when he lunges at me towards the glass and then shakes his head like a metalhead after landing on the dirt ground?? I really dont want him to drop his tail either, so kindof afraid to pick him up recently. But hes always been pretty damn resilient to his surroundings
i would name "D" one Agent, they look adventurous and just look at their paws! Looks like they're wearing little gloves! i i love lighter color of the 'crest" and chocolatte strains on the sides, they're so pretty!
I would wait at least a week to do anything besides feeding and misting and cleaning if you need to. And since yours is so small I wouldn’t do that personally. Too much risk of hurting the little one imo. I’d wait til it’s older
"L" has really cute dot on their head, which looks like 3 dots fused together, also on their left side there are also 3 light spots, so maybe some name connected to this number like Triple would suit them?
@@tmreptile yes patience n slow .think your midday interaction with her good idea but...she sleeps in her hanging plant ..not shure I can pet her , in there she really curls up in it!..I tong feed her crickets at 7 n she half out .maybe start then ?
I’ve had my boy Smaug for almost a decade, hasn’t dropped his tail but there have been close calls. I used to have him fairly tamed down but we moved five years ago. Due to my mental health declining and his tank being upstairs, outside of maintenance I didn’t handle him much and he’s now basically feral again- as he has been for some time. The only time he wants to be on my hand is if he suddenly decides he’s horny 🤦🏽♀️ So I’m wanting to try to get him tame again. Imma try the advice of handling him during the day. Very nice video. ♥️
LMAO no worries, i laugh too! 😂 i have a video of it, hah! He’s a gorgeous red harlequin Dalmatian and has never bitten me out of spite, i love him and miss playing with him. Thank you so much!! All your gecko babies are adorable! 😍
Okay, the "I" one looks like Sandie/Sandy, and Fenny seems to be a cute name for the "A" guy. Ofc these are just suggestions, damn, i have so much fun finding the names for them XD maybe because i got mine crestie yesterday and can't decide on his name yet, so that's my way of coping XD
"M"'s name should be Chicken, i just feel like they'd suit them (and also they chickened out and got scared of thunder hahah) they're so absolutely adorable tho, not having a tail doesn't make them any less cute
I wouldn’t worry about that. As long as you’re not chasing them around the tank to pick them up, more than likely it shouldn’t drop its tail But what do you have against frog butts lol?
Unfortunately nothing to report yet. They’re doing great but we had a few setbacks (and bought a bunch of geckos). So I just need a little bit more time. There aren’t enough hours in the day 😂 I’m hoping we’ll have that video out soon!
