Thanks Pete, this was really quite informative. Even though I have been spraying for years, I always gain a bit of knowledge from watching your videos. You work very hard at it and it’s appreciated
Hi Mate, Thank you. There is plenty that I want to put across, it's just finding a way of telling/showing it without everyone failing asleep 😴 😂. We are all learning as we go along, so sharing what we know is a good way of picking different things up. Thanks again, buddy. It really is appreciated 👍
Super video Pete. As someone else said here, plenty of videos of people showing that they adjust this and adjust that and get better results, but don't explain as you do here, the effects of changing settings. Many thanks for taking the time to explain all this.
Thanks for another great video Pete. Could you do a video on using a scale to mix clear and base coat please? I can’t find where anybody has made a video on that topic. Thanks again.
@@peteshobbies5383 That would be great! Is there going to a spray video on the Porphis MPH-338? I’m thinking of buying it and am curious on what your opinion of it is.
Thanks buddy, if difficult to know how much or how little to put in, bearing in mind the length the videos can get, hopefully I've got it about right, cheers 👍
Hi Pete, brilliant video mate it's just the sort of thing I would have wanted to watch when I first started painting but there wasn't any of these videos out there, well I couldn't find them anyway🤔it took me quite a while to work out the relation of air pressure to fan size and the amount of fluid coming out as this was all done by trial and error, more error than anything at the start😂 Videos like these will be a tremendous help to beginners out there especially for those that are having problems with the fan pattern, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us☺👏cheers Pete👍 Oh I hope to post a vid up later of the PRD-717 for base and clear later mate👌👍
Hi John, thanks, mate. I've been meaning to get this out for ages but hadn't got around to it. I know people often think there's something wrong with a gun when it's not the guns fault. I'll do one on spraying clear coat, which should lead on from this and be relevant to the pattern and fan size together with the pressure. I'll keep a look out for your post mate, cheers 👍
Ok thanks mate, I think these videos will be very popular for the beginners out there, I've been painting a few years now but I'm sure I will learn some new tips and tricks from them, looking forward to the next one👌cheer Boss!!😁👍
Hi Pete That was actually a very good video mate basic but the more you understand what your gun is doing the better for you to try and correct it. I've always said you see people adjusting the gun but know one tells you what they are looking for when they are doing this they just assume you know. keep them coming.
Thanks Pete for another very informative video...........I actually had the issue of the spray pattern being heavy top and bottom. I took the gun back to the store thinking that it was faulty. They were unsure themselves so the gave me a new gun. I know now it was user error. 🤣
Hi Mate, That's one of the reasons I wanted to do this video, same gun, same settings completely different results, the viscosity has a huge effect of what pressure you can use and keep a pattern. Cheers buddy, thanks for watching 👍
Pete, something I used to see, but haven’t seen recently, is rotating the pattern to horizontal and spraying onto a wall to see if the runs are evenly spaced. That has been helpful for me when I wanted to know it a pattern was even. Might not suit your filming setup but it has been useful to me.
Thanks for the lecture As I diyers and beginner, sometimes just want to paint small panel/parts. And the place is very limited. Do not want to spend too much to have a huge air compressor. how to tell your air compressor is capable to provide enough air to spray gun. What if not enough air, any symptoms on air compressor and the spray?
Hi Mate, One of the things I mentioned in the video is having a supply of clean and steady air, so if your compressor is small with a small holding tank a Diaphragm Regulator will help, its explained better here, the 2nd half of the video, ruclips.net/video/m2-zPsv7oG0/видео.html
Very informative video Pete, would that first spray pattern you did be considered an ( I pattern )and if so could you change it to an ( O ) pattern by just changing the air cap?
Hi Mate, Yes, I would call it more of an "I" pattern. This is the Devilbiss T110 cap. Changing to a TE20 cap would give more of "O" Pattern, but still not that pronounced, I did a video on Pro Lite fan patterns , so it may help to see the difference. Just changing the cap will do. ruclips.net/video/QTTeP_cY6mU/видео.html
I got a binks trophy and sata 4400 b .there quality guns but im not experienced painter.i sprayed a bike and i used clear coat kbs diamond coat and it had high viscosity and came out like sandpaper but it leved with no orange peel
Binks trophy uses 24 cfm with hvlp cap 32 h cap . Binks has other ones that are lower cfm though .they got assortment of caps .I saw a air compressor for 800 dollars 80 gal 15 cfm @90 psi 3 phase .it gets expensive and it might have more to do with the paint😢
Hi Mate, Some clear coats respond very well to some heat. It makes then have a much lower viscosity, I did a video showing how, just heating it up changes the viscosity twofold. As you say, something the clear will flow out easier than others, that's where the better clears come into their own and can give a better finish, Thanks buddy, much appreciated 👍
Hi Jim, Normally, they will give a viscosity rating as well, a Din 4 rating, that's when it's worth checking the viscosity in your conditions to see where you are. Temperature will have a bearing on the viscosity, so if it's in the parameters of the TDS for Din4 time, then 1.8 should be ok. If not, then bigger, alternatively thin the material out a little but bear in mind what I was saying in the video about over thinning, hope that helps 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 thank you for the reply. How do you go about using the viscosity cup? We didn’t see you using it. Do you dip the cup in the can and count/time?
@jimdrechsel3611 Hi Jim, I think I said in the video, maybe you missed it, you fill the cup to the top from the top, and wait for the material to flow through as you have timed it. If you look at one of the links in the description of this video, you will see me using one, it's under the heading, warming the clear coat up,
Hi mate, we don't get it anything like as humid as you do in Thailand but certainly in more hotter and humid conditions I would bring the gun closer to the work, this will give a small wetter pattern, obviously you will have to move a bit faster, I find this keeps the edges of the pattern a little tighter, which helps in hot conditions, especially when fast curing clears
@@peteshobbies5383 hey did exactly as you said today and started painting a car chameleon blue/purple. Came out perfect straight off the gun. No orange peel. Absolutely perfect. Thank you so much for your help mate!
Hey Pete, I am going to apply some plastic primer to my bumper and on the TDS they say to set up the HVLP gun to 6-10psi and I don`t see anyone using less than 20psi in any spray gun, what would you recommend for primer? Can I go over their recommendation? I am using the concept paints 1k bar primer
Hi Mate, Plastic adhesion promoters or plastic primers as they are commonly known are very, very thin, so you don't need a lot. Otherwise, it will shrink. The TDS is a guide, as far as pressure is concerned them can't really give you a pressure as they have no idea what gun you are using, certainly, when I use it I run the gun a little bit lower pressure as the product is so thin, what gun are you using?
@ I used a cheap ntools with 1.4 tip and 20psi, I have painted already and looked good, if you wanna talk by instagram or facebook I can show you how it came out
