  • The United States wants to 'friendshore' its investments. It plans to do business only with its 'trusted allies' or countries with 'shared values'. Is this strategy a new form of the Cold war? How could it change the world order? Palki Sharma explains on Gravitas Plus.

    I can't digest the fact that now we'll never hear her signature "Good evening and welcome to Gravitas, l'm Palki Sharma Upadhyay, let's get started" but "Good evening and welcome to Gravitas, l'm Molly Gambhir, let's get started." WION will never be the same without you. l will probably stop watching it if Palki is no longer a part. Best wishes for your future. All the very best. You were the face and voice of crores of Indians on an international stage. l just hope that wherever you join next, you will present international news; because you were the only news person in the world who called out the West's hypocrisy this openly and maintained India's integrity and reputation internationally.

Choosing our responses wisely is how we can gradually tilt the odds more in our favor. That's right, I started investing sometime in 2018 and by late 2021, I pulled out a profit of over CAD750k with no prior investing knowledge or skill. I was basically just following the guidelines set by my financial advisor. Thank you for another good and informative video. Many thanks for all the good work you have done for the past years. People here seem to forget that in media it is quite common for journalists to join and quit organisations. Recently, Sudhir Chaudhary of ZEE media (parent company of Wion) also left and joined Aaj Tak as a consulting editor. After Palki, Wion might not be the same but Wion and the new anchor and editor deserve proper chance to maintain the good work. Unfortunately, Wion had two problems 1) low TV ratings even though on social media it was very high. 2) over reliance on Gravitas show and other shows not being at the same level. Generally, when people at top positions resign it can be due to several reasons: want of a new challenge, desire for more creative control, friction with other top management people etc Nevertheless, i wish Wion and Palki both all the very best.

      Palki conveniently ignores Mexico (and to a lesser extent Colombia). Jobs fled to China because it was cheaper to make a product in China, ship it across the ocean to California, and then ship it across the United States to Boston, than it was to make it in Boston. That's how cheap Chinese labor was. Today, however, labor is cheaper in Mexico than it is in China, so of course the Americans are moving their manufacturing closer to their consumers. It's cheaper, more secure, and with significantly less international headaches. There is no logical reason not to do it.

    according to Sir David Attenborough, the usa consumes 7 times more than Asia amd Europe 5 times more. and yet almost 80% of the population live in Asia and Asia minor.
    if we are it combat climate crisis, the "developed" nations HAVE TO reduce or halve their consumption. An increase in commodity prices is a good way to start this process.
    consumerism is no longer sustainable.

    • @bdbaseball17
      @bdbaseball17 Год назад

      This is painfully out of touch with reality. Commodity prices are going to have next to no effect on the United States which is food and energy independent. Europe it can potentially have some effect on, depending on the commodity. But we've seen natural gas prices increase drastically as a result of the Russians and that's not going to do anything to combat the climate crisis. If anything it means the Germans in particular are going to end up burning a whole lot more coal. And you also conveniently left out that and increase in commodity prices means that hundreds of millions of Africans and South Asians will be at risk of starving to death. That's one way to reduce consumption, I guess, but let's not pretend it's a moral position to take.

      It's literally the exact opposite. The existing US policy was based on political interests from decades ago, namely winning the Cold War. That system continues to exist simply on inertia. The system the Americans are working towards now is based on economic interest. Unfortunately for the Chinese, that means losing jobs to Mexico. Mexico has cheaper labor, more securable supply lines, and more stability (Mexico might have cartels, but it also has Covid under control). The political benefits of not having to deal with Chinese induced headaches is just a bonus. There is literally nothing that the Chinese produce that can't be produced cheaper somewhere else in the world. They can't compete economically anymore.
