I personally think this is the best performance of this song
Have you seen the Eric gales and Joe battle to this ?🔥
By far, best solo, best tone, best vibe.
@@Mordecai06 it's also in the original key.
Surely not , brilliant for the music as usual but common singing
Same here
Such an awesome guitar tone on this version.
Started listening to this when my youngest son Oliver bought the video after my wife died, it helped me through some dark times 😞
I'm so sorry for your loss - but so glad you found Joe's music a healing force. Music is so so powerful.
Never thought I’d see Joe play a Music Man John Petrucci signature in C standard.
He asked Music Man for a baritone double neck custom guitar but Music Man could not deliver it on time before the show so he opted for the second best option which in my view turned out to be much better, the ceramic pickups make a great clear and punchy tone for this rock tune instead of some PAF based pickups as he likes to use.
@@Mordecai06 oh sweet thanks for the info🤘
This song rocks!!!!!
This one of the baddest concerts I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. I bought the dvd the day I heard it.
Those “Unisong” 🥁 Awesone Beats are worth rewinding for. 2 Drummers on cue👏what a gift ✌️🤘🫶
A review of Joe’s November 8, 2019, concert at the beautiful Fox Theater in Detroit.
My husband and I really enjoyed the evening!!! It was our first time attending one of Joe’s concerts. In fact, we’ve never been to a rock or blues concert before…had only attended classical guitar concerts, symphony orchestras, opera, musical theater, plays, and folk music concerts in the past. However, we did frequent bars and clubs quite a bit when we were younger, where pop and rock music were played. But, all in all, we are novices to the blues and were very excited to go because I love Joe’s music and he is so skilled on the guitar!
.
Before the concert began we met a nice couple sitting next to us in the theater and had a great time talking with them about Joe and about music in general. We also enjoyed a glass of wine that was sold in the lobby, which we could bring back to our seats. My husband and I were seated in the 3rd row of the Mezzanine, just to the right of center facing the stage. Great birds eye view of the stage. About 4,700 concert goers were in attendance, Joe said.
.
Unfortunately, the sound quality needed a lot of work. It was very loud, especially the drums and bass, but we had brought foam ear plugs and that helped a lot. I suspect that musicians and sound technicians may have some hearing loss (occupational hazard) and so don’t realize how very loud it is! At first it was so loud that the walls, ceiling, and all the ornamental carvings and bric-a-brac of the auditorium were vibrating, which created an unpleasant buzzing sound that interfered with the music. Joe and all the musicians did a great job, but it was definitely impossible to hear the fine intricacies of Joe’s guitar work and even difficult to hear vocals over the very loud bass tones and drums, as well as over the vibrations of the hall itself. However, someone in the crew must have tried to do something about the problem, because it did get a little better...though the sound was never fully corrected.
.
It pains me to describe that because I absolutely love Joe, his band, and his music.
.
Joe looked great and wore the same shoes as he wore in the Sydney Opera House concert videos. I had grown quite fond of those shoes…lol. There was a replacement for Anton, but the new drummer did a fine job (didn’t catch his name). Reese was magical as always! Same with Lee Thornburg and Paulie Cerra! Loved watching Joe and bassist Michael Rhodes playing face to face several times! Jade MacRae and Juanita Tippins not only performed backup, but each sang solo at different times! Would have loved seeing Mahalia Barnes, but alas, she was not there. Jim McCarty, one of our local blues guitarists, performed onstage once also. I loved everything they did, but “This Train” was spectacular. Same with “Woke Up Dreaming” which Joe played solo as an encore, along with “Mountain Time” (full band).
.
Joe said it was exactly 30 years to the day that he had been in the music business, starting on November 8, 1989, I believe he said…and this was his 30th anniversary performance.
.
I almost forgot one of the best stories from one of the concert goers. My husband and I walked up to the doors of the theater at 6:15 pm. There were maybe 15 or so people milling about. The doors were scheduled to open at 6:30 pm. The concert was to start at 8:00 pm. Good weather, but chilly, waiting outside, but not too cold. Anyway after about 7 or 8 minutes of waiting there, this guy with his companion came walking up in shirtsleeves, no jacket. He said he had just come out from being inside the theater. One of the other guys asked how he got into the theater. He said that about 15 minutes earlier the people who were waiting outside were invited inside to meet with Joe and get autographs! Gosh, too bad we showed up at 6:15 pm, making us too late for that. Someone asked, “Oh, who opened the door?”, whereupon I immediately inquired, “Was it a meet & greet or something?” He said, no...Bonamassa himself opened the door and invited everyone into a side room for autographs! Wow, those lucky fans!!!
.
As an aside, Ticketmaster made everything super easy with clear instructions, parking information, and reminders via email. The Fox Theater organization (313Presents) also emailed instructions and a short video (about security and what to expect), so nothing was left to chance. My husband and I can’t wait to go again! Especially looking forward to seeing Joe and Eric Gales together. Hope the sound quality will be vastly improved!
.
.
My wife and I attended the same Joe Bonamassa concert as M.Lou at the Fox theater in downtown Detroit on November 8th and sadly I have to agree with her regarding her description of the sound quality. The bass and drum volume was so overpowering that it completely drowned out all the other instruments and vocals, including Joe. I could barely hear Joe’s fantastic guitar playing, Michael Rhodes’ bass, Reese Wynans’ keyboard, the trumpet and saxophone, or the background singers.
If I were a reviewer for a newspaper, I’d unfortunately have to give this concert a thumbs down. I very much enjoy Joe’s music on DVD and RUclips, and that’s why when we heard he was coming to Detroit we bought tickets. In a nutshell, I enjoyed seeing Joe live, but I was expecting a performance similar to what I hear when playing a DVD and considering the cost of tickets that’s not what I experienced.
@@zyzzy1944 From my experience the sound engineer or "mixer" can make or break a live performance. With rock music there is a tendency to beef up the "bottom end" of bass and bass drum and undoubtedly it adds to the excitement especially if then the overall balance is achieved. I remember attending a Led Zeppelin tribute concert (indoors) and the level of the mid-range and highs was so far out of whack it ripped ones ears off, bordering on painful and ruining what otherwise might have been a memorable experience, vocals simply overpowered and lost in the mix. Such a lot of responsibility on that person or persons out front to get that sound right.
Best version ever.
Nothing more badass than this, honestly just heaven for the ears and eyes 🔥🎸🎸
Check out the version of this song on the blues cruise w Joe and Eric Gales playing together. It's the best guitar battle ever! I promise you wont be disappointed.
@@matthewhorizon6050 I watched that as soon as it got posted, absolutely love that version. Guitar trading between Eric and Joe is unreal 🔥🎸🎸
@@alexainsworth9102 glad you liked. Killer stuff.
@@matthewhorizon6050 ... Wow, yes!!! That guitar duel on the blues cruise was the best thing ever! I fell in love with it! The whole world fell in love with it!
The lick you played at 4:34 is the best Joe B....Fantastic! The song and solo sound great in this key, the slide solo is breathtaking and badass at the same time...bro we need this again...bring back the low tuning on this rocker!!!😎🤘🎶🎶🔥
I love Joe, he's one of the greatest guitar players I've ever seen and heard!
Joe is a talented genius
My favorite musician.
HES AMAZING I USE TOO PLAY HIS STUFF WHEN HE FIRST CAME OUT ID PLAY IT AT THE RADIO STATION HIM AN KENNY WAYNE SHEPPARD AN JOHNNIE LANG I ALWAYS THOUGHT AT THAT POINT OF THERE CAREERS KENNY WAYNE WAS THE BEST AN GONNA BE THE BEST AN I THOUGHT JOES NOT BAD BUT OVER TIME JOE HAS BECAME A MASTER FOR SURE!!!!!! THOSE BOYS WERE WHAT 15 BACK THEN WOW AMAZING!!!!!
Totally agreed! IMHO Joe is the Best in our GALAXY!!!!!
@@elenaskrypnikova3472 AGREE!!!!!
Completely agree. He is my Music hero 🤟
Best version of this song
Try the tour do force version from 2014 - way way better. Much of this concert is as good as Joe will ever play anything (Sloe Gin, Happier times) but not this particular song.
Chris Timbers isn’t that the one where he plays it in E tuning? I think I’ve seen that one and imo it’s not as good as others. If we’re talking e standard tuning for this song, I would recommend the muddy wolf version
This song rocks !!! Joe is GREAT!
Love hearing Joe use the Theremin here, too! Love Joe's band!
Can’t wait till tomorrow evening for Joe’s concert in Detroit! Hubby and I are starting out earlier than we think we have to, just so there’ll be no chance of arriving late! This is a first for us, seeing Joe and his band! Wow, I get way too excited just thinking of it!
Blessings from Russia M Lou!!! 🤝🌷🌷🌷
I am so jealous, it is going to be awesome, enjoy 😁
Thank you, Sandra and Elena, for all your well wishes, which are really appreciated! I'm in a tizzy with excitement! Just a few hours to wait!

Excellent concert ... a great performance for a hierarchy musician ... sound those blues!
I know you don't want to miss a single lick, but how can the audience stay seated? This band could start a riot!

Dance. You can.
Badass version of a great tune.

Joe always makes me think of Agent Smith from "The Matrix." You know.. if he he'd decided to shred instead of destroy.
Good god!!!! I love you
I must agree

I've watched the Blues Cruise video of this song so many times (the one w Eric Gales and Joe) that it seems like it's missing something. Not knocking Joe, it's just the best dual ever.

похоже что барабанщик выводит своего сына на большую сцену. Джо великолепен как всегда.Спасибо за музыку.
Имеешь ввиду второго барабанщика?
Это Bogie Bowles, совсем не сын от Anton Fig. xD
А концерт этот 2009 года...
Да,возможно очень похожм.

Whats your favorite Bonamassa?
Mine is the version of "Drive" from the Sydney Opera performance
Probably Mountain Climbing; but when it comes to covers, either Boogie Woogie Woman or All Night Boogie
Turn them all on to "Sloe Gin," Joe. My all time favorite live recording. You were perfect! I just bought the Blu-ray from DVD Universe. Who's the beautiful blonde in the front row?
Welcome to Nashville, by the way. I hope life here treats you well.
MouseC ditto from me 😊👍🏻
*Blkjakk* I know I've watched and listened at least 50 times. It makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up every time. From the very first lick, to the very last, I've never been so blown away. I had a good sounding down load, but thought I owed it to Joe to pay my due. High Water and Happier Times are favorites too. Anton and Boogie were on fire. I hope I don't ruin my hearing, but I always play them real loud.
MouseC I love Happier Times, Sloe Gin, Love Ain’t a Love Song, Different Shades of Blue, Dust Bowl and many others.
I got to meet Joe & won 2 concert tickets with meet & greet & a guitar from him plus he signed some things for me like a pickguard off of one of my Les Pauls & the inside of the backplate! Score!
@@blkjakk Sounds like you're living the dream. Also, like you have some guitar talent of your own. Sadly, I have none. But my ears know what I like. Driving Toward The Daylight at Carnegie Hall was also mind blowing. I wish I had some of your luck, talent too. Oh well, guess I was born for the blues. Rock-n-Roll forevermore!
Yes, Sloe Gin from Joe's 2009 RAH is absolutely superb! That's my most favorite Sloe Gin performance that I've ever heard!
Solo Section is the best!!!
REPRESENT CANADA
Rewelacja 😍😍💗💖💓
Prefer Red Rocks but this is still brutal power house stuff. It’s mind boggling to think how anyone can play the guitar like JB can. I’ve been been trying for 25 years and I’m nowhere near his level.
genio ...cuando Argentina???
Look Joe rocking a john petrucci music man guitar!
Joshua Benoit lol I noticed that too. I’m kinda shocked.
Strange... I am not sure why, butJoe knows better than any of us...
MacPro8CoreMan Yeah he’s the only one that knows why. I guess he likes the way it plays.
@@blkjakk he is known to be a guitar connoisseur.
Joshua Benoit Yeah, we all know that. It’s that we’re usually seeing him play vintage guitars.
John petrucci signature guitar is 🔥🔥
BFR to be exact 😁

I really love this song and i love the fact that the song is in either Drop B or B standard but i really hate that he tuned up to E standard, i love the low notes in this song... RIP low notes on the guitar lol
He's either in Drop C or C standard. He starts the song with an open string C.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino yeah, hes in C Standard, i realised that a while after i listened to it haha
Joe Bonamassa on a drop D tunning and and a modern guitar (i thing is a music man).... This world has gone crazy those days... 😂😂😂🎸🤘
Drop C!
@@fraga.matias i didnt test it on my guitar. Very possible and even stranger for Joe. I LOVE him anyway!
@@ioannisdegdekis9143 Not that strange, he has a bunch of songs where he downtunes the guitar. John Henry studio version is in B, same as Dislocated Boy... Mountain Climbing I think is Drop D, etc!
@@fraga.matias stil not so ordinary for a classic blues player. Anyway. Have a nice blues night 😉
Pretty sure he tunes in C-standard for this song.
I know the anwer is most likely "Because he can" but why two drummers?
It’s like a whole drummer playing in mono... but in stereo
But yeah cuz why not lmaoooo
Eh. King Crimson uses 3 drummers so...
I'm listening on headphones - you can really appreciate the two drummers.
Pray to budda harder
You are a genius man,but that guitar ain't you 👍👊✌
A Petrucci guitar has never been slung so low... which just means that it's not right under the chin
That would be the case until Pretucci tuned his guitar to C standard for "Untethered Angel."
@@BrunodeSouzaLino I was referring to how low he is wearing the guitar, because Petrucci likes to have the guitar high up when performing.
DT have of course many lower tuned, heavier songs :)
@ Petrucci doesn't wear his guitar much high either. Guthrie Govan and Alex Hutchings wear it high to the point the upper horn can go under their chin. So did Shawn Lane. I used to wear mine high to the point it didn't touch my thighs sitting down and I could maintain the same playing position regardless.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino Victor Wooten style :)
Too much cymbals. (For me.)
Good number..... But just too much..
Why the hell would you overload guitar music with so much other stuff?
