Here's that Shindig TV performance Kenny mentioned!

I remember that, inspired me too!
RUclips: Blackfoot - Shapes Of Things 1974
These Kenny Vaughn interviews are the best. Thanks Otis!
100% !
Cousin Kenny is back!
Dude Otis! Maybe one of your best videos! Next time you talk to Kenny, could you ask him to tell you any Tommy Bolin stories? Kenny is from Denver, and got to see Tommy Bolin many times on his way up!
I could listen to Kenny read the phone book.
Thanks Otis...Kenny is 👍
Love cuzin Kenny!
Kenny always gets it when it comes to understanding players, writers, guitar gods. He has a sixth sense on music. Thanks for sharing.
Jeff 's "Blow by Blow' was incredible. Never heard anything like that before or since .
Jeff very humbly called that album an “accessible” version of Mahavishnu, but it stands quite well on its own, thank you very much. I had that and Wired on a TDK cassette back in the day. Fantastic road trip music.
Listen to Spectrum by Billy Cobham w Tommy Bolin, etc.
I love Kenny Vaughn. A monster musician with the astonishment of the child's first steps.
Just getting over Neil Peart then this,my favorite musician is gone sad😢
I'm always up for a Kenny Vaughan interview. I appreciate not just his stories which are always entertaining, but also his view and opinions on music. I'm going to try and hunt up that Yardbirds on the Shindig video to see what Kenny was talking about.
Edit: I just watched the video. Kenny was right. Beck was incredible, a real gunslinger. At the end he holds the guitar upright in his left hand, all the while playing it just doing hammer-ons with the fingers of his left hand while he grabs the slide. And this was in 1965.
I had the same reaction to those Yardbirds things when I was a junior and senior in HS. He was like nobody else at all. Even Hendrix wasn't that much of a shock after having heard Beck for two years.
I love how humble Kenny is. I think deep down he knows he’s the man. But, he’ll never admit it. Thanks for all of these videos Otis!! 🤘
Agreed. Stoic
Kenny Vaughn talking about Jeff Beck is Righteous!!! Love your stories Otis!!! Thank you
Thank Otis and Kenny for bringing up his earlier 60s stuff. Lots of talk about the later music, which I love, but the Yardbirds period is so special to me. Love those songs so much
Great interview with Kenny. Jeff Beck dying hit me harder than any other musician's passing. I'm still trying to make sense of it.
“That’s a wise decision lad.” 😂
best story teller,,,best stories,,,the world is a better place with Kenny in it !!!
Kenny is the best.
Kenny Vaughan is always awesome! Looking forward to the new Superlatives recording!
Kenny Vaughn and Jeff Beck in the same sentence. Fine with me.
Kenny Vaughan, one of my favorite musicians on the planet, talking about Jeff Beck, the man who inspired me to never stop reaching for new heights in my musicianship? Yes, please! These stories are great, and hearing them told by Kenny is just plain dreamy (dreamy? Yeah, I know, but danged if it doesn't apply perfectly 😄).
❤❤❤❤ Kenny Vaughn, and Jeff Beck on the Otis channel ❤️I’m in heaven❤️❤️❤️❤️
McCartney's Taxman riff as a nod to Jeff. Makes perfect sense.
Beck taught us it's ok to get harmonics on frets that don't normally have one.
Just went and found that TV show that Jeff went off on. Absolutely killer. Way ahead of his time.
Kenny is the King of the planet. Wounderful interview. Big thanks Otis.
Kenny Vaughan is the fucking MAN. Seems to have absolutely no pretense, whatsoever. I'm glad you keep having him back, Otis! PS I'm the dude who emailed you a trainwreck of a guitar riff in a drunken stupor. haha
Hey Otis, your interviews with Kenny Vaughan are the absolute best!! He is such a great storyteller and a fantastic guitarist. thanks
Heart full of Soul and Evil Hearted You just blew my tiny teenage mind ... I played Truth into onion rings ( I even liked Hi Ho Silver Lining ... even if just for the break when you hear the hum increase and you think ...Here it comes ... Blow by Blow ... onion rings ... Jeff's guitar garage ... CD ... the only one of those pommy dinosaurs that never disgraced himself
I love Kenny Vaughn. That Lucinda video with the extended version of Joy he just went nuts. I love watching that over and over again. That guy is phenomenal. Kenny Vaughan is a true acrobat.
Just saw Kenny and the boys in Clearwater in Feb. Stellar show!
True story. A childhood friend of mine was hanging with another well known musician who he'd hooked up with somehow in an LA studio. He and another friend left and hailed a cab, he here's a dude with a British accent asking where they were going, and could he share a ride as he was heading in the same direction. The dude jumps in with a cigarette in his mouth and my buddy without missing a beat snatches the cigarette out of his mouth and flings it out the window, saying no smoking in the cab. The dude looks at him and says "But it was just a clove cig, mate". Yep, none other than Jeff Beck.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THESE STORIES WITH KENNY VAUGHN! SUPER NICE GUY AND APPRECIATE HIM MORE AFTER THESE INTERVIEWS!
Kenny is the best; his interviews are always so insightful. I had a chance to talk to one of my guitar heroes on the phone once (PT) and I gave it a miss; glad I did. What would I possibly say??
This is cool, I know nothing about Jeff Beck except he played guitar, could not tell you a song.
Listen to the "Blow By Blow" album and then the "Live @ Ronnie Scott's" DVD! You will be born again.
E’ffing amazing. Just went their and color me impressed.
Kenny Vaughn has theeee best stories!
This interview made me smile.
Did you ever ask Kenny about his time with Lucinda Williams? The stuff he played with her, from fills to solos, was sublime.
I never want these damn Kenny Vaughan interviews come to a close... I could listen to his stories for ever and ever
Otis, I love these clips - especially Kenny Vaughan! You put these guys at ease and just let them talk. Really enjoyable!
Otis you rock as does Kenny . Beck kept making new records - never got stale for me. Like Bowie did even McCartney - Otis you do as well - keep writing and creating is the key
This interview made me smile SO BIG!!! Wonderful stuff Otis and Kenny!! FANTASTIC!!
Man l love these stories..thank you guys.. makes my day..✌️❤️😁

I was 14 when I watched The Yardbirds tear ABC's "Shindig" a new one, which Kenny describes so well here. A year later The Yardbirds actually played Lima, Ohio's Springbrook Gardens Teen Club on Dec. 4, 1966 (you can Google the show poster), a venue just 20 miles east of our family farm. I thought I was gonna see both Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page that night, but found out Beck had returned to London after becoming upset with the conditions on their U.S. tour. What I didn't know until 50 years later watching RUclips interviews was that 19 year-old NYC native Elliott Randall (then a guitar teacher at Lima's Custom Percussion Music Store) also attended that show and introduced himself to Jimmy Page. Less than 6 years later in the the summer of 1972, Randall would compose and play the lead guitar solos on Steely Dan's "Reelin' In the Years" -- solos which Page in 1973 famously rated "12 on a scale of 10" and said made him rethink his whole approach to guitar solos.
I've heard that before about Jimmy Page but never knew the backstory I knew that he was a big fan of the early steely Dan
@@eternallife9786 A year earlier, in the fall of 1965, I got to see another future Steely Dan session guitarist, Rick Derringer, perform with his band The McCoys ("Hang on Sloopy") at the Van Wert, Ohio county fairgrounds. Rick grew up in Fort Recovery, Ohio, just 40 miles south of Van Wert. I've always wondered if Randall and Derringer crossed paths during their time in western Ohio, before they both became in-demand session guitarists.
Amazing that a dedicated country artist is a fountain of information about rock music history. The Dead with Pigpen, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck. Kenny, what don't you know? Also, nice fill with talking about Bo Diddley, Buddy Guy and Stevie Wonder.
It makes sense because all that old rock is rooted in blues and jazz and basically country is the same thing
Thanks. Kenny is a great talent and good guy that I've known from back in his Littleton days, I wish you both well....I love all of JB's work, nothing ever redundant or sounding the same old.
Jeff Beck - unique!
If this isn’t worthy of Library of Congress … I’ll eat my hat - hell - I’ll eat YOUR hat 🎩!!! 😅
That’s a cool story thank you for posting it
Great stuff as always Otis ✌️😎
Another great one!
Super cool and insightful as always. This is fantastic. Thanks for posting.
Thanks, Otis, and thank you, Kenny!!!
Great stuff!
Thanks. Great stories.
Kenny’s pretty Amazing too.
Love hearing Kennys stories. i went and checked out the shindig show. yeah Jeff was on fire and had that special something even back then. Great video.
Jeff was our fearless leader, even for Jimi
Heck
I hope to meet Kenny someday.
Much Love
and on that day, Jeff Beck missed a chance to meet Kenny Vaughn
I wonder if Jeff played Bonaroo about the same time that he played The Ryman with Narada on drums? I was at The Ryman and got Beck to sign a photo I have when Stevie Ray Vaughan and.Beck were prscticing at a studio in Hawaii mid.80s.
Kenny is the best!
México, teatro Metropolitan, el mejor show que he visto! Jeff Beck siempre perfeccionando su técnica, su sonido. Vivió una gran experiencia, bendiciones!
nice
Little known fact: Jeff Beck and Paul McCartney played together as session musicians on one of Paul Jones' (Manfred Mann) solo recordings (1968).
I was at that Bonnaroo and I'll never forget how good Jeff Beck was. I was really hoping Jeff Beck was going to come out and jam with Stevie Wonder.
good video
Kenny mentions the album “the shape of things.” Incredibly good album.
Thoroughly enjoyable post Otis, thanks for sharing Kenny. I honestly thought Jimi brought the fuzz tone and feed back vibes from your side of the pond. That bass player looks a bit like chas chandler, I could be wrong. But if it is you should all know his part in music history.
Thanks! Great fun.
Yes! Jimi, Jeff Beck and EVH broke the sound barrier!!!
Always enjoy Kennys take on people of fame and infamy...
Nice jacket Kenny
❤
Kenny Vaughn and Dave Roe have to be my top 2 fantasy dinner guests . Cant think of a better dinner party , along w Otis , of course :)
Like Tal Farlow, Jeff was a musician who happened to play guitar.
luv that Daniel Boone coat. . or is it a Davey Crocket coat? whichever it is. . it is frosty cool heh
The Yardbirds are just the ultimate 60s guitar rock band featuring three of the best guitarist out of the English scene personally the Jeff beck era is my fave while I do like Jimmy Page and what led up to led Zeppelin and the early days with Eric Clapton but something about the beck era
They say that you should never meet your heroes and i think that there's plenty of merit in that statement.
Who's Jeff Beck?! Exactly! Barely noticed outside of players for most of his career, then he dies, and everyone finds out where the stuff they've been listening to came from.
People who know good music know who he is
Shapes of Things clear influence on Taxman solo.
👍
I'd go so far as to say that Jeff Beck created the modern rock guitar solo. I could be wrong- but that's my take.
Kenny Vaughan….What am I gunna say to Kenny Vaughan?
I have to know where Kenny got that jacket. Ill ask him on Facebook. He wears cool clothes
KV is back
I'm guessing Jeff used the Maestro Fuzz Tone on Heart Full of Soul but not positive. Keith Richards used it the same year on Satisfaction.
When you think about all that is wrong with country music these days -- and there're A LOT of wrong things w/ Country Music 2023 -- Marty Stuart's decision to hire Cousin Kenny Vaughan, friend o' Lucinda Williams and Kim Ritchie, as a member of the Superlatives remains a VERY good thing. The "Letterman" appearance proves it; however, can you imagine anyone who appeared on the recent CMT Awards s***show discussing Jeff Beck in any meaningful way?!
Stevie Wonder opening for Jay Z? What is the world coming to??
Haha! ‘Who’s Stevie Wonder?’ Oh, yeah; Kenny G! Wait, Vaughn; I thought that was Stevie Ray! No wonder...
Stevie Wonder, opening for Jay Z. {]B^{O}
Yeah; also, I thought Bonnaroo was a music festival.
Jeff got fired.
Kenny demonstrates how not to be a gherm.
I respect Jeff Beck but I never personally got into his music- his guitar tone completely rubs me the wrong way.
He definitely comes out of left field which is a little polarizing. Some don’t like it and some love it. I do; he’s so different!!
@@vayabroder729 For sure. I saw him live on a double bill with Santana in the early 90s at Deer Creek. He was actually supposed to headline that night. Luckily Santana went on first because I tried to dig on Jeff but had to split after about 3 songs. What I remember most though was Terry Bozzio’s “raft” of drums. He seriously had a 20’ x 30’ platform with about 3,976 drums and 1,543 cymbals completely covering it. I think he was lowered by a rope ladder to get into it😂
Hi OTIS, Kenny is fantastic and his stories are history in the making , plus he played with my favorite Neil Young like female artist song writer Lucinda Williams she is up there in her song writing , with the greats , Dylan , Lightfoot, van Zandt and Young....
