    Very well done. You had less men, twice as many kills, and about 2/3's of your army was able to make it home.
    It really demonstrates the biggest threat to corner campers; routing will instantly remove one of your units from the battlefield. As an attacker, there's a chance a routing unit may return, but in any case, the battle shall end very quickly once its decided.

    I thought about corner camping, and in my opinion there is a easy solution for it.
    Make it so the closer your units are to a border, the less morale they recover passively, and when too close, even lose morale passively.

    • @easytanksgaming3238
      @easytanksgaming3238 4 месяца назад +6

      Or have adding temporary zone after red line, not that big but enough to flank. And units in that zone will lose morale/health over time, so u can flank the cornercamper if u fast enough))

    • @javiermercado1996
      @javiermercado1996 4 месяца назад +7

      @@easytanksgaming3238 That was my first thought, and it would be an improvement indeed, but you could still cornercamp with a complete pikebox, with the extra of having two side almost invulnerable.

      imo an easy way would be to just cut corners. make it a diagonal line... this would prevent semi-circles and at the very least, stretch out and significantly weaken this kind of defense. It may even open up a flanking opportunity, too, as soft angles are harder to cover in TW than hard angles due to the rectangular units.

    I think the way pila works is that the closer you are to the enemy, the less triangulation there is between your models and the enemies, and so there is less overlap and overkill on individual models. Essentially you are targeting more models by virtue of each one being closer to your own individual models-i don't think the "damage" per pila changes with distance. Thats why loose formation loses fewer in exchanges compared to tight formation-there is less overkill on the enemy.
    I think that there is some under explored potential in doing more column-based pila fights where you only have the front couple ranks throwing pila, so they have a surplus of targets, while recieving a massive amount of overkill on the few exposed models in the front of the formation.
    There could also be value in timing your pila throws to have longer gaps between them, so that the enemy formation can automatically repopulate the front lines between throws, reducing overkill.

I had one army that won every battle it fought...except one. No one wins a hundred chances. I fought 5 battle in a row outnumbered each time. Battle 1, 2 armies 5k vs my 3k. Second battle 3k, vs my 2.2k. 3rd battle, 2k vs my 1k. 4th, 700 vs my 200. Each battle was fought in the corner with a forest to block archer and projectiles. Legendary difficulty. The final battle was one last desperate attempt my 45 men vs 300 of theirs. I tried to kill their general and almost did. This is how I won a few of these previous engagements.

    In modern TW games, it should be very possible to even make the game generate more map, so that two armies can practically keep marching in one direction for days on end. But even just a slight shift of the red line once the armies both get close to it would prevent corner camping entirely.

    • @lukeinvictus
      @lukeinvictus  9 дней назад +1

      They have a higher defense stat, but having a higher attack is better for holding a position like this, because urbans are superior to anything in sword range. Doing more damage to them as they try to get past the spears is the most important trait.

    It has been ages since I played RTW. I was never good at online battles, but gods help us, I never tried this corner nonsense. I liked playing flat maps even though a more astute player typically beat me easily. Hills don't really allow much in maneuvering, and hey, I might lose but at least it's interesting.

    It seems the downside of this corner strategy is also pretty obvious - when a unit rout it would immediately quit the battle map, unlike usually you can regroup many of the routing units.

    I can't remember how artillery works in Rome, but seriously, I'd rather always bring one piece against any faction that would probably go heavy into hoplites. It forces them to not just sit and be defensive cunts.
    Edit: Also, jesus christ. The way he set up his units is bonkers. He could've easily set up several layers of spears with plenty of room for his archers. But instead he just massed them in a single clump in the corner where they couldn't move. Absolutely perplexing.

    To beat redline campers is thee easiest thing to do in this game I swear XD with Rome obviously, kind of like noob boxes. Spartans in a corner just makes them worse for some reason, I don't know why people think its a good idea still on top of a hill and redline camping. I beat a modded rebel army on the steepest modded hill possible and I still beat them XD Forget just beating them too, just wait them tf out. Even if it takes 3 hours.
