Surviving as a peasant is one of my favorite things to do. Clearly though, you're far superior at it. Man, I can't believe that archer was able to instantly switch to his cudgel and attack after getting hit.
Yeah a lot of the times I die it's because people can just immediately followup after being hit, which is a huge problem if their weapon is faster than yours.
The Agathan knights at his side were growing fewer and fewer, and he saw redder and redder as they were cut down around him. His presence alone was surely the only thing keeping them upright. They could see he was growing winded as his old bones creaked with the effort of swinging the dulled steel through chainmail for the hundredth time that afternoon. He'd put down many an invader since the gate breached, yet their push was incessant and he could see what the outcome would be. He didn't allow himself to mourn though. He fueled his bloody rage with the thought of the men, women and children of his town who'd fallen to the onslaught of their conquest. He thought of Alfred the baker with his wife and children. Of Baldwin the smithy, who'd picked up arms alongside him that afternoon. And of little Alice, who just yesterday had given him a dandelion with a smile so bright it'd melt any icy heart. His blood pumped and his steel sang, as the longsword pierced the red in front of him. He watched as the light disappeared from the eyes in the young face and stepped back as a spear missed him by a hair. He was cut off from his allies now. With a grunt of exertion he stabbed the wielder through the neck, causing a cascade of crimson to shower his companion. The distraction gave an opening and he thrust again slightly to the right, slicing open the artery of the other one. They fell on each other as the retired knight stepped back again. Three more were approaching, utter disbelief and terror written on their face. He could only imagine what he must look like. He'd taken several arrows and at least a dozen cuts by the time they reached the alley they were currently driving him into, and in his civilian clothes he must surely have been a sight. Only hate, old honor and a thirst for vengance kept him going. He could see beyond the oncoming assailants two defending knights were left of the six or so who'd come here with him just a minute ago. Through their blood soaked colours he could see slivers of blue. He let himself breathe for a second before the one to the right advanced swinging his sword down recklessly, likely thinking the old man must be done for by now. He managed to sidestep and dole out a deep cut to his inner thigh, and the man screamed in horror. He would bleed out soon enough, but not before rallying and swinging once more. The older man was too slow and it caught him in the shoulder. The cut was deep. He kicked the lad on his back, where he knew he would remain and moved back. In the street he'd come from he saw another knight of Agatha fall, the last one panting heavily and barely managing a defence. A second villain came, and with all his willpower he lifted the steel enough to parry, before giving a thrust with the pommel of the longsword, catching him in the mouth and throwing him backwards, far enough that with the last of his strength he was able to cut him down. As he did, the third one took advantage and thrust his spear. It caught him square, and he fell to his knees. The spearman stepped back and looked at him with hate. He stared back with reciprocation. Behind the crimson and black before him he saw the last young knight fall, having taken several down with him. He looked down and could see his hand still gripping his sword. It was red with oily blood from handle to tip. His vision grew dim and the sounds of battle grew quieter as he sat there. With a sigh of resignation he closed his eyes and thought of home. Thank you for this video! It was very entertaining and you earned a subscriber. The last part had me inspired and caused me to fantasize a little, so I wrote it down. Man rose up and became a folk hero in his city's most dire hour. Truly, thy courage shook villeins the land over. With longsword thou slew a dozen men, then pulled an axe from thine friend to slaughter more. Many more didst thou put to the sword, until thy might drew their army's ire. In the barricades didst thy chuck two heads of cabbage to end four or five men rightly.
