The Trend® Airshield Pro is the latest generation powered respirator and face protector. It’s designed to provide impact resistance with its Z87.1+ rated polycarbonate visor and circulate fresh, filtered air at the same time.

I have used these shields for the last 8 years, but only spasmodically and find the batteries a pain. Had one battery swell up and burst the cover apart due to summer heat. The Australian agent at the time (since changed) sold me an other (tiny disc,) but thought the swollen one was OK due to it having cooled back down by the time I showed him. It seems to be ok but feel it self discharges a bit more than others.
How ever, I have found the face shield to be quite unbalanced when lifted up high doesn't like staying there and drops down every time I want to look down for something using real eyes. The rear head band clamp is a bit "ordinary" and for ever cranking it up. The ear clamps are just not suited to this device so had to jerry some from a standard hard hat, much better.
I bought this device to protect my eyes as they aren't too happy with fine (wood) dust. To this end it works very well. But mechanically I can't see how it got past the R&D phase.
In desperation I reconstructed one by using a standard (better qual) hard hat with peak and useful flip up face shield. Feeding the air through the peak and with out any of the cloth stuff all around. It works fine. Plenty of air to protect eyes from dust and by squeezing the alum frame plastic face shield close to face it works fine for breathing, The flip up also now works as expected. The rest of the stuff fits about the hard had shell with a bit of stuffing about. Result is a much lighter more functional device with much better all round vision!!
Unfortunately there wasn't much about at the time for dust proofing eyes with out condensation and dangling remote battery. - See they now have the MAX series, may have covered the original problems, maybe?

After charging and when turning on it beeps ,I read the manual and I find No reference to audible on turn on ..only when battery is low is that normal to beep on start?

I've worn a Trend for a couple of years now so I was curious about your video. While I agree with the over-all summation of your video I think you 'glossed-over' over a couple of details that would be worth noting to the buyer. Many helmets up being re-sold as some can never get used to the weight of the helmet, causing headaches and neck strain, ending-up selling there's to folks like me...so in that respects, they're not for everyone. Another part that would have been useful for you to mention is whether or not Trend improved on their chargers. The charger that came with my 'vintage' of helmet was not a 'smart' charger which was rough on the batteries. A $12 Tenergy 'smart' charger solved that problem but I think others would benefit knowing whether Trend addressed or not this readily known past issue. Those two points aside, I agree that the helmet produces very good air quality and is especially great for those of us who wear glasses...they no longer fog up.

John, I do agree with you.I love mine the only thing I would comment on is to put a tape on the outer shield so dust don't come between. Other then that its a great product
I agree, Trend's model is top heavy. MicroClimate's Air3 solves these issues and battery problems too. It packages the electronics to the front and low. This moves the CG close to the ear. This makes it comfortable for wearing all day long. BTW, this is why a football helmet is comfortable to wear even though its weight is twice what a respirator is, its balance puts the weight near the center of the head.
Remember: With dust, the more you breathe in, the less gets in your eyes.
I don’t know if I would call this a review; made it sound like a near perfect product which based on other reviews it’s not. Is it comfortable? How long did the filters last? How long does the battery last after you’ve used it for 3 months?
Do they offer a charcoal filter? My coworker passses gas a lot and Im looking for a solution.

There are some English made masks that are lighter, and more modern. Unfortunately not available in the USA. Not sure why. Craft Supplies you should look into getting them. I don't think they're going to be cheaper, but I think they would beat this one hands down.

I've had one of these for years and just hate using it. "8 - 10 hours" on the battery life is laughable - it's well under 30 minutes with the proprietary Ni-MH (or Ni-Cad?) battery pack that comes with it, with a super annoying low-battery beep that can't be turned off (at least I don't know how to turn it off). Additionally, the comments about neck strain after extended use are real - this will give you a sore neck after about 30 minutes of use. Until they fix the battery issue by utilizing Li-Ion tech (perhaps they have already but seriously doubting that) I'd wait for a next gen design before purchasing
Hi David - on my end - the batteries seemed to last for an extended time - ie the 8 hours. agree on the weight - takes some getting use to....and I tend to use mine for about 4 hours at a time.
I'm really feel the difference when using this helmet. So I'm quite happy with the air filtering. What's a big failure is the ear protection: they don't cover my ears completely and thus are as good as useless.

Though I really like mine, you'll see from numerous other turners that they could never get used to the weight. I don't know if Trend has improved on this part or not but their original charger is not a 'smart' charger...that is, it doesn't know when to stop charging the batteries. A $12 Tenergy charger solved that problem for mine. All in all...it's a great concept and though I love mine, it's still difficult to figure out why someone else hasn't figured out how to make the unit for about half the price.

At $400.00 it is simply out of my price range.
If you subscribe to any of the Facebook or other woodturning/working forums on-line you'll frequently see these available used. That's how I got mine...another guy couldn't get used to the weight and sold me his for about $200. Still expensive but I readily admit, my quality of air flow improved dramatically and it doesn't fog up my glasses.

This isn’t a review, it’s a sales pitch.
The fact that the charger is not "intelligent" is indeed a drawback. I also bought a better one so that my battery can have a longer lifetime.

Just read the reviews on Amazon 🇬🇧, fragile, cheaply made and overpriced, great idea, poorly implemented. I will have to look at other options. Thanks anyway
