One thing to consider when looking to buy a Versaflo system. The only filter cartridge available for the TR-300+ model is a particulate filter. If you want organic vapor (paint/ solvents) or any other protection you have to get the TR-600 or TR-800. There are 8 different filter cartridges for the 600/800 and only one for the 300+
Good review, highly recommend one of these if you can spare the money, amazingly comfortable, makes me want to put it on and just do whatever I plan to do as its so comfortable, great product but yea pricy, but I hear lungs and eyes run fairly high as well :)
Just found your channel the other day and subscribed. Love your content. I'm looking at getting into knife making as a hobby (just ordered a Revolution 2x72 kit) Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Awesome review! I have some vintage Delta machines for woodworking. Their terms of dust collection is picking it up from the floor. This would be perfect for me.
Man, I like the Resp-O-Rator... it gets the job done if used right. I just figured that I'm doing so much grinding now days that an upgrade was in order. Definitely the Cadillac option... Cheers
I use the 3M Versaflo since 3 years and it works great! The problem with the expensive batteries i fixt with an 18V to 12V converter witch i but in the frame of the old battery and now i use the batteries of my rechargeable drill. There are great tutorials here on youtube. This is not for dangerous or explosive zones but for me as hobby knife-maker it works fine. But there is one big problem with the Versaflow!!! Every fart you let, gets pumped directly in your nose. So don't eat to much Chilli bevor working with the Versaflo. ;-)
RUclips was listening and this was in my recommended feed this morning. My wife and I were talking about this system yesterday. One part of the conversation brought out the 12 year old in me. The location of the air pump and likelihood of a dutch oven. I think that would be the second largest drawback aside from cost. Overcoming both of those, I think it’s probably the best system out there for knifemakers.
Those PAPR's are comfortable. My company is soon launching MicroClimate Air3, should be more accessible to the hobbyist. The design uses a monocoque manifold design, it should end up 1/2 the price of 3M. Can we share one with you to compare when we get certification?
Hi there ! I'm using the same model working in car battery factory that was provided by my employer. Great sen and really easy to use with awesome ventilation inside. Too bad that you don't purchased the dedicated earmuffs because I was interested how to install them on the helmet.
My wife works in the blacksmith shop with me, and has grown to enjoy making knives.. This is a... requirement if she is going to work in there... Buying one for now.... gulp... Hope the affiliate links work for you.. Great honest review and very helpful.... bye bye $1500
Can the battery pack be worn or moved away from the lower back so the operator can be seated and driving machinery ? The hose did not seem to be very long . Cheers .
I sit down with it all the time but generally on a stool with no back. You could wear it on the side in the 3 o'clock position or maybe in the 9 o'clock position depending on what side is more comfortable.
@@RedBeardOps Cheers , thanks for that , these are on my short list , a pity DeWalt or Milwaukee don't make these in their 18/20v range , would have suited me perfectly 🙂
thanks for the review. I have trouble with my glasses fogging up when I wear a regular face shield or welding helmet. Do you think the air flow in the versaflow would be enough to prevent this under most conditions?
I use a versaflo for woodworking. A few months after purchase, covid hit. At work, we had a contract to waterproof the balconies of a new apartment block. Covid restrictions meant masks had to be worn all the time on site. After the first day, I decide to use the versaflo for this job. I could not fog the visor, even when, on a warm day, lugging 2x 20 liter buckets of waterproofing material up 4 floors without stopping. Other workers wearing normal covid masks had to stop at every landing to catch their breath!
Thanks for the review. Is this just a good option for people with beards? How would this option be better than just a $100 full face shield 3M respirator if you don't have a beard? Those have a compression fit on your face so nothing can get in. Seems like dust would still be able to get in with the versaflow. Thoughts?
@@RedBeardOps ok, thanks. I'm building a dedicated grinding room and I think I'm going to stick with the regular 3M full mask and focus more on the actual dust collection system.
Thank you Justin, glad you enjoyed this one. Man I tell you what... it's nice to not worry about what you're breathing. I was getting tired of blowing my nose and seeing metal.
It would get pretty hot and foggy I think. Would be less effective too since it relies on creating positive pressure in the fac shield; not a perfect seal.
Due to the ongoing wildfires and resulting particulate in the air, I was looking into something this so I could go outside and bike for hours without breathing all that crap into my lungs. It'd be nice to have a good, clean air supply with better flow than is provided by normal respirators. I was thinking that maybe I could just plug the air supply unit into a normal respirator face mask. It's mostly just an idle thought and I'll probably just wait until the air clears up - especially now that I know how much the good units cost!
This thing looks pretty nice. Man I recently thought could get away with not wearing a respirator while grinding micarta because I was outside. I was wrong. My nose has bee messed up, and I've felt like I've had the flu since then. I wont try something like that again. Not fun.
@@RedBeardOps yeah. I knew I shouldn't have risked it, but I was lazy and didnt feel like going back in to get my respirator. This will be a lesson I wont soon forget. Thankfully I wasn't grinding carbon fiber or something.

That does look comfortable and having air blowing on your face would feel nice when it's hot. I've seen a lot of positive reviews on these.
Guess it depends on how much grinding one is doing... I'm a fan of it
Thanks for detailed video! Quick question to you. How do you clean filters, by the way?
Every once and a while I'll take em out and use the shop vac. This extends the life. At some point you'll have to buy a new one.
Can you replace the face shield if it gets damaged
I'm not sure, but I think so

Great info!! I’m looking for clean air hood for painting, but I’m not sure which route to go or if this is good for my particular end of work
Honestly me either! I know 3M makes some specific hoods for that appliation.
I live in Asia and will be buying this to use on my scooter. The air pollution is deadly!🤮
