32mm hub socket. Red thread locker is way overkill and may make those bolts very difficult to remove at the next 60k miles. Just clean and torque to spec. Many mechanics actually add anti seize to all the bolts. Ranger bearings are frequently replaced. I'm a long time ranger owner and several bearings later.

Thank you for stating the hub socket size!! I also thought the red thread locker was a bit much.

just did this to my '08 4x4...the video explained everything perfectly...loving taps and all.(32mm deep socket for the axle nut btw) and I opted for green loctite over red.
    the howl is gone!

I see most young mechanics hammering on their expensive fine-tooth ratcheting socket wrenches. They don't use long breaker bars anymore, for heavy bolts that require a lot of leverage to break loose? This was a clear, concise video, nice job!

Please add a note in the title that this is for a 4x4, the design of the 2x4 brakes is entirely different

Thanks for this video. Saved me 100's. Plus gave me the confidence to think I could actually do it.
Also, the ABS connector may be round or square. Check before buying.

This is only true for the 4W drive models. You should do a front bearing replacement for the 2W drive. It's very different and involves removing an outer race from the rotor.

Mine is a 2000 and came with the "auto locking" hubs that used a vacuum pulse to engage the axle. When one wore out I could not find a new one or even a used one from a junkyard anywhere so I had to get manual locking hubs. Looks like this ranger just stays locked.

You should add that you need to use anti seize on the knuckle before mounting the new wheel bearing. This will keep it from rust welding and therefore easier to replace next time.

What are your thoughts on only replacing the Bearings? Under $15 vs. $170.

I can’t get my axle to turn lose r. I haven’t put heat on it yet. You didn’t touch on the rubber axle boots. How to get them out of the way. The hole you put your punch in hasn’t released anything yet. You said heat and a hammer. I can’t hardly believe it’s that easy to detach the axle without having issues as ownership lingers .
