Thank you for posting this. I have a 2018 limited and haven’t had any problems yet except going into limp mode at about 15,000 . The Service campaign was put in so I think I’m good in the event that the engine was to seize. Really wish I could have a knowledgeable mechanic from Hyundai like you to inspect my vehicle as well and give me any advice to prolong the vehicle. Thank you for making the video
Get rid of it especially if you have kids, you will have serious problems inevitably which can leave you dead in the water. Happened to both myself and brother's Sonata and every person I've known with a Sonata.
Cool! I have a 2015 Limited with 146k. No plans to replace it. At 78k engine seized at 89mph passing. Thanks Hyundai!🤬 Roof was replaced, axles, trim, probably 10k in all. Now it’s great.
No The 2019 Sonata's do not have this rod bearing failure issue the other years do and there is still currently Zero recalls on the 2019 Hyundai Sonata's. ya.... the 2019 was a good year, reliability wise for the Sonata's.
I have a 2018 sonata sport that when it gets cold it’s hard to start. You may have to push start button anywhere from 3 to 30 times before it will start. Once it starts it will start every time until it sits overnight in cold temps. Usually freezing or below. Have you ever seen this
I have 2016 sonta, changed oil every 5k. started burning 1qt oil every 1k, dealer said it was normal. Went through 5 intake manifold sensors, dealer would not cover, had to replace cam shaft, not covered, then replace timing chain again not covered. Dealer charges $20 just to fill out paperwork for servicing.Do not buy from Hyundai!
Hello. I have 2017 sonata sport . Looking to replace rear springs since the stock ones have started to sag dramatically. Could you recommend a good aftermarket replacement?? I can’t seem to find a part number for my car. Thank you.
I have a 2018 Sonata SEL 2.4L...what engine oil is necessary when doing oil change? Full synthetic or or regular oil? Then if you started with full synthetic can you go back to regular oil? It has 73K miles. Appreciate your input 👍 Much blessings 🙌 Ty
It seems that this cars have a lot of mechanical issues... What car would you recommend to purchase nowadays? I had a Honda Accord didn't have any issues..also a Nissan Altima same thing I leased both vehicles always maintained with regular maintenance. Appreciate your suggestion? Much blessings 🙌 Ty
My man I really wish I would’ve seen this before. I own a 1.6t and everything you’ve said specially the dual clutch is garbage. It’s already on the second one from warranty ( probably from junk yard) doing the jerk off/ acting like it’s taking off on 3rd gear. It’s just awful. Follow his advice avoid them 1.6t they also go thru oil very often. Good thing is that small maintenance is fair easy to work on but I’m def getting rid of it. Thanks for sharing it’s very rare to find detailed videos of this specific model (specially the 1.6t)
Hi. First off I wanna say the video was very informative so it definitely helped me. I actually have a question. I was doing research on the 2017 Hyundai sonata 2.0T limited and found that Hyundai put out a lifetime warranty on the Theta 2 engine I however didn't find out to much information about it. I was wondering if you could inform me. If you can take time to do so that would be great if not I totally understand thank you!!
This is a great video. Please do a model walk through like this for all the Hyundai models. There are a lot of successful RUclipsrs who have done this for other brands. See The Car Care Nut for Toyota
I do have a problem with my 2019 sonata sel. It doesn't start at all. Everything turns on as far as the radio, AC, and lights. the key fob battery is new. What to do please help
Great vid. Subbed. 2016 Sonata Hybrid SE, 55K Problems since 2016: Engine light went on/off numerous times for over a year until they FINALLY figured out it was the MAF sensor. Until that was replaced (twice, one defective) the car bucked from 1st to 2nd. Really frustrating, because my MPG went from 44 to 33 during that time. Other problem: Trunk opens with fob, but the smart release no longer works. Did not know about the class action on this until after 5 years passed on warranty. Not too upset, because the smart trunk opened so many times that I did not want it to. Other that that, really happy with the car. Still nervous about the engine light in the future. Might have to buy a scanner to avoid paying for the diagnostics. I like the technicians who work on the the car, but the service managers are a different story. Is there anything that you can suggest to fix the smart trunk that no longer beeps or opens? Thank you.
Hi… with your vast knowledge of the 2.4 Theta II, would you know what causes my engine to sputter when I am at a stop? This has been happening since the day I bought the vehicle brand new (2015 Santa Fe Sport). When at a stop light the engine will sometimes feel like it is going to stall (but obviously doesn’t). The engine will vibrate and feel like it’s dropping in RPMs but then will quickly idle back to normal. This can happen several times while at a traffic light. And it’s been happening for nearly 7 years. However, strangely enough, the problem has not gotten worse. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
@@SEsGarage Thank you ! I just got new tires and got recommended that after I felt I was gettig Lower fuel MPG so I will get that on my next oil change as well
Hi. I have a 2012 Sonata limited 2.4, it has a salvage title but is in great condition with only 65k miles on it. I have the vehicles history and it does have an orange dipstick so I believe the previous owner kept up with the recall issues. Is the extended warranty voided if the car has a salvage title?
I believe I ran across a case in California where the safety bureau forced Hyundai to fix it because it was a safety issue. Also I know a good amount about the Theta 2 engine but was wondering if you’d be willing to answer a question here and there lol.
I’m honestly not sure. I know Hyundai will have records of what they call a “branded” title, and can turn down warranty repairs due to a branded title. But I also know that recalls still needed to be performed on vehicles with branded titles so it can really go either way. Being that it’s a recall I’d think they’d have to cover it but I can’t 100% answer
@@SEsGarage thank you. Is it normal for the rpm’s at idle to lower after successfully putting in new plugs? Used to be 700rpm or higher at idle I believe now it’s closer to 600rpm(sometimes lower). Also I cannot afford a proper carbon cleaning with walnut media etc... I did use the CRC GDI cleaner through my air intake once, i’ve researched all the risks of using this meathod but in your opinion do you think it’s safe/beneficial to use. It seems like CRC “dissolves” the Carbon rather than knock chunks off but still. Sorry for the questions and if you choose to answer there’s no rush lol.
Wow! I own a 2015 sonata 2.0t limited 42,000 miles I already had to replace the left rear wheel hub which I had to pay for it and a few other things that was replaced under the warranty, I wish I new all these things before purchasing this car, the MSRP almost $35,000 in 2015 for such an expensive car there shouldn't be so manny problems, now I found out about the rod bearing problem and I'm worried, I had the car since new and always replaced the engine oil and filter every 3,000 miles or 6 months w whichever came first, but I did it myself, in 3 more years my car will 10 years old, there goes my warranty. 😕
Thanks for the Hyundai content. You will definitely gain a lot of subs if you keep up with these. Take a look at the channel "the car care nut" who does exclusive Toyota content. I wish you all the very best and success for your channel.
Much appreciated! Unfortunately, I’ve been out of a Hyundai dealer for nearly a year now. Had I started this channel 2 years sooner, I’d have had a much better opportunity to make more Hyundai content

Great channel, ,,,I have a 2022 Elantra with the 2.0 smart stream engine. Have you heard good or bad so far.
Mine has the 2.0 MPI engine, never uses oil, no issues with carbon contamination on the valves, 11 years old and no major issues, just consumables.

How about Hundyai Tuscon 2015
5:34 does the coverage for the engine extend to second owners? I have heard that you should only use a genuine Hyundai oil filter?
Yes and yes. Assuming the 953 recall was completed.

Do you think it’s necessary to get a fuel induction service done to these vehicles to prolong the engine life?
100%

hotdang. I like the design of these cars but there's way to many potential failures on these models

Omg, thanks for talkimg me out of buying one of these pieses of shit..way to many issues
If the engine uses a quart of oil at each fill and is currently on fire, this is typical.
