I don't consider it a particularly weak talisman, though I never really tested the numbers myself (I just slap something on and see if it feels like it helps). If it's a percent buff then it probably is good stacked on top of other buffs, it can squeeze out that little bit of extra power from your incantations - surviving by the skin of your teeth is still surviving! Personally, I'm just glad it's not worded deceptively like the Roar Talisman, I had been using that with my dragon communion build on my first playthrough and didn't know until reaching (and subsequently am still stuck at) Elden Beast that it actually doesn't buff even Greyoll's Roar

Yeah both of them multiply each other's buffs too so It's a little more like 15% but the sad truth is that the only time I can find a use case where those talisman slots are well used, is if you can't make up your mind what type of spell you are gonna use... You can stack that with the 8% buff from the Flock Canvas Talisman as well as the various scorpion charms and Godfrey's Icon for some crazy damage depending on whether you want Fire/Holy/Lightning damage
Yeah, but most likely there is still a better talisman to fill that fourth slot. I'm sure there are edge cases where it eeks out more damage, but rare methinks.
I mean,it's an option that you can get before beating a boss. The other canvas talisman is 15% iirc, yes, but you need to go to the HALIGTREE,where Malenia is.At the very end of the the game (earliest possible is before fire giant but you're just insane if you do that)
Yeah, they buff each other, so you can get 50% buff with the right combo, but very few builds will benefit from this one, as until you are very high in levels the scarseals or even sore seals will give you more buff just from the levels they give. then the flocks, appropriate scorpion charm, and suddenly there's no room for the Faithful's. Oh and the sorceries have the same setup. a %4, and %8 talisman that stack!
If you are primarily using incantations for all damage though it is still worth it mixed with the flock talisman (found somewhere in millicent's quest), and the lightning or holy scorpion talisman. Flock and faithful both stack with eachother and scorpion is i believe another 10% to whatever damage type it is linked to
I think that the buffs in incantations are pretty solid. Flame grant me strength and even beastial vitality have their own spots. But somehow the one incantation that requires the most faith to use, that’s only used by the final boss, merely tickles enemies?
@@The-Backlog I feel as if the self buffs need to stay where they are, the ally buffs like erdtree heal needs a slight boost, and the damage ones need some significant tweaking. Not to mention how PATHETIC some are. Darkness and aspects of the crucible: breath just to name a few. All I’m saying is if magic can start the game with a spell that can help carry them all the way to finding a new spell and still be strong, faith should feel just about the same..
? Incantations are fine Sure there are some Wich are garbage but all of them are good now that you have *ahem* HYPER ARMOR on use. its easy to deal over a 1000 damage with Foetisaxx lightning. no they don't need a nerf but not a buff either (unless we are talking about the beast one wich are actually garbage)
Yeah, but unless you are swapping incantation damage types on the fly (and can't be bothered to also swap scorpion charm types as well) OR have already maxed out your faith level that talisman slot is better used for the Two Fingers and Soreseal.
honestly just use sacred scorpion instead or the fire one. that with flame grant me strength, golden vow, and physic flask buffs. you wont need the canvas talisman.
.... you forgot that this effect stack with others so its an 8% buff plus scorpion charm plus the multiplier effect on the seal (that hopefully you are using Godslayer's or Erdtree) There is also a more powerful version, 12% More damage. use this plus Godfreys icon plus the scorpion charm of your choice. this wasn't made with the intent of using it by itself, its meant to increase the total value of all other Incantations buff Exponentially. Even in ds3 it was like this where you could use the 2 Pyro/Miracle/Spell Buffing rings at the same time at roughly 70 faith eith Erdtree seal, Godfrey icon Thunder scorpion charm and This talisman, a Fully charged lightning spear went from 800 damage to over 1200. this is going against enemies wich do not posses weakness to lightning and without the raining buff (20% more damage on lightning gear)
I didn't forget it. I chose not to try and put all that into this guide but to make a full length guide detailing how it all works for both this faith based scaling buff, and the same thing is available for Int scaling as well. Also this one does not give a %8 buff. I see that mistake a lot. It gives a %4 buff. The Flock talisman is the one that gives the %8 buff, and they don't just stack they stack multiplicatively. so with both of them on at the same time, the Canvas here does a %5ish buff. and the Flock does a %9-10 buff. But still even minMaxing the snot out of it, you would have to be a very high level Caster for the Soreseals not to be a FAR better choice. Or even the Scarseals. And just adding in all that detail would have shot the length of the guide way beyond the 60 seconds allowed for a short. Thus I chose not to include it in THIS guide, but to save it for a much bigger run down guide where I can detail all the really good reasons why you almost always have a better choice than this talisman.
Better than the opposite, like in Ds3. In that game you basically had to devote all your ring (talisman) slots to stacking 2 damage boosting rings (12.5% and 25%) in order to do ANY damage with ANY spell.
Right, but unless you really can't decide what TYPE of damage you want to do, there will ALWAYS be a better talisman to put in that slot. Even if you get all the slots really early, or rush over to grab this almost right away, the math don't lie. You will do less damage with this hogging a slot. Even and especially for cloud incantations.
I feel that incantations are in a pretty good place but I do think that a few sorcery could be buffed like the glintstone arc to do more damage or decrease casting time for the collapsing stars
Glindtone arc is an early game spell. Once u have adullas moonblade you’ll be fine. They did nerf it tho but only bc it was way too op now it’s just op
@@possiblymaybe6711 eh I kinda wish they just added a late game version of the arc that’s could be chargeable and think it’d be cool and the arc has more range than the moon blade

@@doruk7125 sure if you use things like comet and stars of ruin but I feel that incantations have a more balanced selection to where any gimmick of a build mostly works and is viable like you can have a black flame mage or a giant flame monk or a crucible knight but sorcery is either use utterly busted but boring or you can pick something super interesting but is complete ass, like you can’t have a good gravity mage because only like 2 spells are good for pve and there’s only 3 good ice sorcery and like overall there’s like only 8 good sorcery in general while for incantations almost everything is good

They stack multiplicatively, so they get you more than 12%, but unless you are trying to cast more than one type of damage in a single encounter, it's still not worth the talisman slot, since the Flocks Canvas also stacks multiplicatively with the other better talismans.
no, that's what you are supposed to think. but unless you just can't choose one damage type there will always be a better option for that talisman slot. The flock's is good, the faithful is garbage teir.
OK, so to start I'd suggest go hero, and keep running that battle axe for a while. Get into Stormvail and grab that Iron Whetstone blade, so you can give it a heavy affinity, then just go with it's natural "Wild Strikes" or the storm stomp that you find with the Whetstone knife. You might be able to buy a second Battle axe from the Twin Maiden Husks and run one with wild strikes one with storm stomp, then just get to slashing! For armor, there's not a lot of great choices after the Hero starting set., but if you want a Viking kind of look the Kaiden riders drop their full set eventually, or you can go down into the Sofra river and grab some Ancestral shaman gear, or the northeast of the Lakes to get some Ancestral Follower gear. The furs look great with lots of bits! Top that off with Radagon's Soreseal from fort Froth, and the Green Turtle talisman from the Summon Water ruins, and make sure you have some prawns to munch on, and maybe a jellyfish for support, and you should be golden! You'll probably have some levels to put into mind in the late game for some incantations, but by then you should check out the Ash of War: Prayerful Strike! It'll fit on one of your axes, and heals you when you hit anything! Or for Fire the Flame of the Redmanes is easy to get and really great feel to run! Latter on you can also find a brace of Stormhawk axes, that could fit nicely, or The Axe of Godrick or Godfrey for a single axe build!
Thank you so much. I'm power stancing the omen killer cleaver and a great axe currently, then switching to the magma wyrm great sword when I want some slashing damage or great club for strike. Yes, but as I have pointed out, there is (Mathematically) almost always a better talisman to put in that slot. The only time I've heard of that using this makes sense is when you can't decide what TYPE of incantation to use, and you just want a general buff for EVERYTHING.

You are likely thinking of the other one. The flocks canvas. And yes they both stack together to provide a multiplicative buff, but there is always a better talisman for that slot. You should be getting a buff of around 30-45 percent.
"What is EVEN the POINT?!": There is another faith talisman ( Flock's Canvas Talisman ) that gives +8 to incantations and they stack multiplicatively. You can use them both toghether and gain more than 12%. If you raise your attack via a spell buff the difference is even bigger..
Yeah, we're planning to include that in the Flock's guide, but we haven't been able to verify that on our end, so until we can actually say what the stats are, we're not gonna include it in a guide.
Yeah, not at all worth the slot! Even with the raw percentage I can't think of a build that would have a talisman slot not used by a few better options!
I got this on my second run of the game and thought it was stronger version of the Flock's Canvas Talisman that I had from the first run But no, it's worse.

both of the first two were without talisman. so the jump is 1304-1357. Which is as close as the game can get to 4% in round numbers. The other set of numbers 1070-1100 something are the un-surprised sheep numbers. Since you get a 25% damage boost when attacking an unaware enemy. I gave both so that you could see that even with other bonus' it's still a flat 4%, and I labled the attacks with and without. @@The-Backlog Once both are obtained, you should have a quest to combine the two so you at least have a single talisman for a 12% buff instead of two talismans for the same. It’s hard to justify both talismans in any build. Or better yet, just put a single one in the game that buffs incantations by 12%. Same should go for the sorcery equivalent.
it does stack with the Flock's Talisman and such, but even then it only provides around a 6-7% buff? Which if you are going all in on Incant damage that's great, so it has a place, but most people will be wanting something else in that slot.
Cause I'm gonna bring that up in the guide about the Flock Talisman. This one by itself is useless, but the other one is useful by itself and can make this one slightly less useless. If I included everything that CAN be said about every item, I wouldn't be able to fit them into the shorts format, and would end up repeating myself, so I really have to choose what to say for each one, and this one is ONLY useful if you build a character around it, soooo. And even though the one is a %4 buff and the Flock Talisman is an %8 buff when you use them together they give you MORE than a %12 buff. Something like %14-15. Then if you add in an applicable scorpion charm and maybe a mixed Physic you can get upwards of a %45 buff, but again. You get better than that by using other talismans in the place of the Canvas talisman, soooo.
There's one Gowry has. I suggest you kill him after doing Millicent's quest since he really won't serve a purpose afterwards. Gowry's talisman is a better version.
Yeah the Flock's Canvas is better, and it does stack with this one, but I don't like the idea of taking up 2 slots for %12 buff. My guess is they did not want to make these a "MUST RUN" talisman set for Faith Builds, so it's really on the knife's edge of usability.
Nope. As shown on the video it even works PvE. We tested it quite thoroughly and there will always be a talisman that will give you better damage in that slot. The upgraded version of this is good, but not this one.

Yes, the Flock Talisman. Takes a longer time to get to it, but it boosts incantation %8, and apparently it stacks with the faithfuls canvas to give more than %12 boost? But we haven't been able to verify that yet.
I just want a lightning incantation that’s like the glintstone pebble where it’s about 7 to 9 fp with decent range and cast speed. Maybe call it lightning shot or something that’s all I want.
His beast form gave me trouble, since I was going a heavy holy build, and he has a very high resistance to holy, so maybe switch out ash of war for a flame affinity. (Scales with faith but does fire damage). He does LOTS of holy damage so make sure you have the hailagtree talisman or +1 version and some Holyproof dried liver, and maybe some pickled Turtle Neck (Responsibly sourced of course) so when he runs and you have to chase him down you can get some damage in before he runs again.
If you get 2 curved swords upgraded a lot and dual wield them with the bloodhound step ash of war thingie you can easily beat the elden beast, as for radagon, I used a summoner to distracted him and used lighting ranged incantations, but that’s cause of my build, I’m sure any hard hitting ranged could be used in place of lightning.

The other canvas talisman is 15% iirc, yes, but you need to go to the HALIGTREE,where Malenia is.At the very end of the the game (earliest possible is before fire giant but you're just insane if you do that)
Whats strong about the incant buff talismans is that you can equip multiple of rhe same type.
Flock and faithful both stack with eachother and scorpion is i believe another 10% to whatever damage type it is linked to
That little buff deduct 1 turn from 3 hit combo.
I'm sorry, I don't understand.
I think that the buffs in incantations are pretty solid. Flame grant me strength and even beastial vitality have their own spots.
But somehow the one incantation that requires the most faith to use, that’s only used by the final boss, merely tickles enemies?
Yeah! I just can't... That is just the worst! I can only think they worried about PvP on that one, and just said "Make it not track anything!"
?
Incantations are fine
Sure there are some Wich are garbage but all of them are good now that you have *ahem* HYPER ARMOR on use.
its easy to deal over a 1000 damage with Foetisaxx lightning.
no they don't need a nerf but not a buff either (unless we are talking about the beast one wich are actually garbage)
its a very good talisman as it can be stacked with the superior version of itself to give a pretty noticeable damage increase
Yeah, but unless you are swapping incantation damage types on the fly (and can't be bothered to also swap scorpion charm types as well) OR have already maxed out your faith level that talisman slot is better used for the Two Fingers and Soreseal.
honestly just use sacred scorpion instead or the fire one. that with flame grant me strength, golden vow, and physic flask buffs. you wont need the canvas talisman.
....
you forgot that this effect stack with others
so its an 8% buff plus scorpion charm plus the multiplier effect on the seal (that hopefully you are using Godslayer's or Erdtree)
There is also a more powerful version, 12% More damage.
use this plus Godfreys icon plus the scorpion charm of your choice.
this wasn't made with the intent of using it by itself, its meant to increase the total value of all other Incantations buff Exponentially.
Even in ds3 it was like this where you could use the 2 Pyro/Miracle/Spell Buffing rings at the same time
at roughly 70 faith eith Erdtree seal, Godfrey icon Thunder scorpion charm and This talisman, a Fully charged lightning spear went from 800 damage to over 1200.
this is going against enemies wich do not posses weakness to lightning and without the raining buff (20% more damage on lightning gear)
This actually buffs dragon spells a lot more than 4%. Not sure if it’s intended but certainly worth it for a dragon build.
It's good for meeting faith stat requirements if you don't got anything better to put in that talisman slot
that's a different one. This one just gives you a buff to your output, it doesn't change your stats.
@@The-Backlog oh it is too, i was thinking of the two finger heirloom
Can forget the better one from killing gower after giving the one girl the valkyrie prosthetic (I think this is the earliest) or after her questline
Yeah, the flocks canvas talisman is worth getting. You can get it at the end of Millicent's quest, however you choose to end it.
The potency is mentioned for cloud like incantations like rot breath to proc faster
@@syphonexp4695 I mean that would be cool. The sorcerers just need more diversity. Everything is blue. Maybe if it were a death spell too or fire idk I hope as the game ages they add more spells overall
I think sorceries are already strong enough. I played the game with pure strength and pure mage and being a mage most likely removes skill from the game.
@@doruk7125 sure if you use things like comet and stars of ruin but I feel that incantations have a more balanced selection to where any gimmick of a build mostly works and is viable like you can have a black flame mage or a giant flame monk or a crucible knight but sorcery is either use utterly busted but boring or you can pick something super interesting but is complete ass, like you can’t have a good gravity mage because only like 2 spells are good for pve and there’s only 3 good ice sorcery and like overall there’s like only 8 good sorcery in general while for incantations almost everything is good
Him: 4% increase

you can also find the +1 equivalent in gowrys shack if you kill him
Yes, the improved version of this is usable. This one is still garbage!
Use this, the better version and fingers talisman for a decent buff to faith spells
I also like to wear the corresponding scorpion talisman depending on if I’m using mostly lighting, holy, or fire incantations
more like "incantations: what's the point"
Giant Flame + Golden Vow + Flame GMS = 1.2K damage
Unbuffed Sacred Butt Slam Ash of War = 1.6K damage
Just use Ashes of War instead
that’s not as fun
coming to this to share something
as a players whos made a TON of faith builds, if you want your incantations (heals and damage) do to BETTER? run the two finger talisman, the 5 faith is actually better in the long run UNLESS...
you're running 80 faith, if you reach the hardcap on faith scaling and use hte golden seal, or honestly any seal, the damage is pretty nice.... now would it hurt if it was actually 5 and 10% for both types oh sure but eh, if you wanna pump as much damage you can, use them both with the godfrey icon and a scorpion talisman of your choice.
although personally, damage is not everything, i recommend working for talismans that give you better defense and POISE so you can deal the high damage we do anyway
It's a stackable buff with other things and the better version is 12%. A must have talisman you get it from the dudes quest in the shack outside of the caelid magic town
no the Flock Talisman is only %8, they stack together to get about %14-15 but even the sore seals provide a better buff untill you get the scarseals, and they provide a better buff untill VERY late levels.
@@The-Backlog I use it combined with many other things that makes my fireballs hit for over 5k, you seem to act like you know a lot but to me it seems you're barely scratching the surface of what's possible

I just wish incantations had a bit shorter casting times. That's the only thing that makes spells better
There's Radagon icon which shortens spell casting time, but the difference it makes is barely noticable
There two Talismans one does 4% increase while the other is an 8% increase and u can equip them together to get a 12% increase
They stack multiplicatively, so they get you more than 12%, but unless you are trying to cast more than one type of damage in a single encounter, it's still not worth the talisman slot, since the Flocks Canvas also stacks multiplicatively with the other better talismans.
I stacked it with flocks canvas. I think that’s a pretty good boost.
no, that's what you are supposed to think. but unless you just can't choose one damage type there will always be a better option for that talisman slot. The flock's is good, the faithful is garbage teir.
I was watching this and literally just got this right after watching the video
Incantation need a balance. As a faith user I'd probably boost incantation speed but nerf damage
You use it in tandem with the flocks canvas talisman and use some bullshit op heavy hitting attack, and it’ll likely halve the bosses hp
Hey Backlog, I want to do a barbarian axe build with maybe a some fire incantations. What weapons and armor would you recommend?
That sounds like a lot of fun. I'll give it some thought and get back to you, and/or you can pose that question on our discord: discord.gg/T9dyZvH8UX
It's been good to me so far, but boy is it rough running around with low poise and protection. Occasionally, I will use the mausoleum knights chest piece. It looks cool without the cape and it goes well with the horns from the ancestors set.
I appreciate the time you put in and your follow up. Love your videos man!
you can stack the incantation talismans together for 12% buff
You actually get even more than %12 boost since it stacks multiplicatively. However there is almost always a better talisman to put into that slot for more damage.
Golden Vow buffs Weapon / Incants / Magic as well so why not use that. It's only a smol buff but much more versatile!
I use this on my faith/build . It adds 5 to faith stat . Thats why i use it..
This one is one of the Canvas Talismans, not the one that boosts faith by 5.
Hey man that 20 points can mean the difference between life and death
Yes, but as I have pointed out, there is (Mathematically) almost always a better talisman to put in that slot. The only time I've heard of that using this makes sense is when you can't decide what TYPE of incantation to use, and you just want a general buff for EVERYTHING.

both of the first two were without talisman. so the jump is 1304-1357. Which is as close as the game can get to 4% in round numbers. The other set of numbers 1070-1100 something are the un-surprised sheep numbers. Since you get a 25% damage boost when attacking an unaware enemy. @@The-Backlog Once both are obtained, you should have a quest to combine the two so you at least have a single talisman for a 12% buff instead of two talismans for the same. I mean if it stacked with anything it would actually be decent unfortunately I don't think it does.
it does stack with the Flock's Talisman and such, but even then it only provides around a 6-7% buff? Which if you are going all in on Incant damage that's great, so it has a place, but most people will be wanting something else in that slot.
Why not bring up the other Faithful Canvas? There are two of them. One 4% and the other one is 8% I think. So... you can get 12%.

Try using the black knife's special ability, and make sure when you spawn your mimic (if you do anyway) that its offhand is using spells
His beast form gave me trouble, since I was going a heavy holy build, and he has a very high resistance to holy, so maybe switch out ash of war for a flame affinity.
