- I gave my pet carpenter ants (The Redwood Warriors) some new hunting grounds and their reaction to it was just awesome! I created a naturalistic forest habitat for the ants, so they could have some new lands in which to forage for their food. It was a more naturalistic way to house and feed them. Hope you enjoy today's episode! Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

I hope the springtails and things can get to that mould before it gets out of hand, it’s quite close to the colonies main chamber.
Honestly can't wait for Ebony's outworld adventure too. It's fun to see them both grow side by side.
Basically 2 species going on the same journey and see what they do differently!
Honestly the real problem is how they handle battle tactics when the time comes, as we remember the Ebony have miniscule fighting experience in the arena, while the Red wood never had a fight at all.

but also construction times are kinda a nightmare in a non-pandemic year so it might still not be livable yet

edit: The little black bumps on the nesting wood are some type of melanic fungi. These are the fungi that disturb me the most as the melanin they synthesize helps them avoid destruction if they start to grow on/into an animal (like an ant or a person). Most aren't obligate parasites of animals, but they're opportunists and can grow in your body. Melanin in fungi is considered a virulence factor. I'd recommend getting rid of the nesting wood.

have you considered raising springtails to dump into new colony homes? Could prevent the mold from even starting! could also help give a boost to colonies that need it
If I remember correctly, he does raise springtails but maybe they're in his other house where all the other ant farms & animals are located, I could be wrong though. Haven't seen his other house in a while or even check his old videos & vlog channel. Currently he lives in a temporary house until the new house is ready for him to move in, so he is lacking a lot of his usual tools etc
I was thinking that it was surprising you didn't add a tiny bit of dirt in the wood so they have at least a starter group of springtails to keep things clean. Hopefully that mold doesn't spread too far before the springtails reach it.

I love the two ants seemingly braving the new territory but then one of them seems to be like "abort mission" and both go running back home 😂 so much entertainment! I don't know how you'd get anything done owning ant farms.
Have you considered using a security camera system? something that logs the last 24 hours on a ssd so you can back track footage in key spots?

Absolutely love the outworld you've built for the Redwood Worries! You've inspired me to get one for my Tetramorium colony to build a biodiverse habitat for them! I've been going with fake plants and rocks but this looks so beautiful and important for the ants health! Still absolutely loving this series! #antloveforever ❤

have you ever thought about feeding them a crab leg? im sure that would be very interesting to watch one or more of the colonys enjoy. im sure they would all take unique approaches to how they consume it and break it down. might be interesting once everyone is reunited at the ant house

Hey there AC, love the vids! Juuust wondering though, what kind of jelly do you use for ants? Trying to find a solid brand to go for as there's a lot of discussion in the ac forums about jellies for other insects being used for ants so was curious what you were using.

My friend decided to hook up the test tube to the Outworld. Well, he also had put in a piece of driftwood inside the Outworld. He has carpenter ants.... the ants left the test tube and moved into the driftwood. Now they are living IN the Outworld.

We love you ants Canada but I want to tell you something you and a couple other RUclipsrs inspired me to become a RUclipsr so I just want to say thank you
Can I suggest you make a single unit piece of hardware with the nest and outer-world as two zones. The nest is below the outer-world and there are tubes connecting the two zones. I think this would make a great piece of hardware you could setup inside your home. Or, perhaps the nest zone clips together with the outer-world zone (same base size) and the nests and outer-world are modular so you can add multiple layers. If you had a large colony, you could have multiple layers of nest modules, with multiple layers out the outer-world on top. All would have external connectors and only linked by tubes.

I wouldnt be surprised if they were traumatized by the experiment with the other colonies. Maybe thats why they were so cautious.
Take a lot of out worlds, stack them together, make a giant habitat for carpenter ants like a log, then drill into it and make a giant chamber in the center. Then put lots and lots of polygenus carpenter ant test tubes. Then giant carpenter ant colony.

So outta curiosity, have either of the colonies tried adding to or altering the wooden chunks you gave them for homes? Or are they just fine with what you already carved out?

I imagine that the tube is like a portal to the ants who were first confined to their home world.
The music is so bombastic & over the top at the beginning, you can't help but be as excited as AC.
@AntsCanada I'm curious, what is the visual capability of these ants? When they entered the new environment, were they able to perceive the full dimensions of the terraria in relation to themselves, or can they barely sense the immediate space/objects around them?
This would make for a fascinating simulation, or even better a V/R. An Ant exploring it's environment primarily by touch & scent (simulated by visual cues for us primates 😉), with limited vision. Working & interacting with other ants around the colony, exploring outer space, while avoiding predators & other colonies. 🐜

Its great to see these beauties growing so nicely. My big babies, shiny black carpenter ants, are in hibernation right now here in southern ontario so am not really getting to enjoy any growth right now from them, but they are doing good, just checked on them yesturday.
Im really enjoying this latest ant epic of the redwood warriors and im so so so looking forward to what sort of amazing world you create for them in the new ant palace... cause calling it a house doesnt do it justice lol

Ants Canada always gives the ants that are discovering something completely new, the thoughts of a naive dumb blonde haha "That's funny, this wasn't here before, oh well la-di-da" 😂 but I imagine it to be more like "I srsly must be tripping balls right now, I swear this wasn't here a second ago" 😅
I'm not surprised they were being so shy about entering the outworld or whatever it was called. Last time you connected them to a larger chamber you unwittingly pitted them into an arena against other fledging ant colonies like gladiators!

@AntsCanada I was thinking, you simulate an ant raid on another nest by using an empty AC Nest and fill it with rice grains and connect it to a colony!

I wonder if the timing of how many sisters have safely traveled to and came back from the newly reported territory from the first ant is a reason for initially hesitancy.
So the first ant tells everyone, hey there's a new place, and everyone agrees on, or it's instinctual for them to survey the new area over a period of time to get a sense of the new spot with time involved

Nerves run on a small electric current and if the current is triggered then the limbs will move . Insects and humans have a similar nervous system ( down to the genetic level) so that will work with recently dead people too
