    Honestly wondered from the start why springtails weren't added. You can grow them in cultures and even buy cultures online. I did this myself when I wanted to make a 10 gallon terrarium. Cheap and easy. The terrarium didn't work out for unrelated reasons, but I kept the cultures going for years thinking I might use them someday. If I hadn't stupidly forgotten about them for too long they would still be alive.

    I hope you can get footage of the carpenter ants expanding their tunnels. I've been wondering how digging through wood looks compared to digging through dirt. Also, I wonder how safe these isopods will be with the carpenter ants. From past videos ants seem pretty good about leaving the springtails alone, but given how we saw one ant attack an isopod here, I worry the ants could take them down by working in groups, attacking the legs.

    • @AntsCanada
      @AntsCanada  3 года назад +15

      I believe the isopods will be safe. Once the ants get used to their smell and they start smelling like the nest and surroundings, they will leave them alone. I once broke into a carpenter ant nest in a log and saw a tonne of isopods living with them.

I’ve checked the website guides and tutorials tens of times over, but I figured it was better to ask anyways: is it recommended to start an isopodium of my own to prevent buildup for their eventual outworld? I’m just worried that the isopods might get into their nesting chambers and eat the brood. I know that springtails and mites will leave them alone, but it’s the bigger guys I’m anxious about

    WOW! I asked about the mold/fungus issue and you replied that you would introduce springtails/isopods to address it. This is soooo beautiful and amazing!
    You KNEW all along about this important balance that is imperative to the colony's survival....and were prepared for it!! You are amazing sir.......thank you for all that you do! #antloveforever

    An older ant strategy game is Empires of The Undergrowth. Unlike the sponsor it isn't a gacha game after your wallet and the 5 developers are very active in their own community.

    There are 2 ways how it can end when you put regular isopods in a formicarium.
    The first: the ants kill the isopods and thats it.
    The second: the ispood population will explode until there is no space left for the ants.
    In your case are the colonies to small - so i guess the second one will happen. 😅

    About your sponsor portion... A friend of mine actually told me about that game, because of how often I talk about (and watch) your videos at work. He knew I was interested, and mentioned it to me a few times. I don't usually go for mobile games, but if you're endorsing it..? I'll definitely be giving it a try anyway.

    As I was baking Christmas Cookies and watching this episode I caught a graphic on screen out of the corner of my eye. I took a look at the screen and said, "Hey, I play that game." Then I thought to myself, "I know I seen an anthill named AntsCanada while I was out scouting for resources one day while playing". Does this Ant Hill belong to you? If so welcome to The Ants Underground Kingdom. Welcome and enjoy your time playing with all of us. Looking forward to the next episode. Thank you for all you do.
