I think if you were to go through all 3000 LP’s, you would find 400 copies of Dark side of the moon.
and Def Leppard also @pykkervots
actually that would be great, dark side consistently sells. always running out of copies. (record person too lol)
its those classic rock albums that people want and buy.
I see your humor but this was someone's personal collection, it's obvious to me they enjoyed variety. A lot of unique stuff in this lot.
that boston he had showing i come across that one in every collection i find.
Boston lps are very common, several radio hits by any band creates album sales like crazy, there's really good classic rock bands back then that never had a radio hit. Wishbone Ash is an example, they put out great music especially an LP called "Argus".
My eldest brother collected vinyl. These would have been first releases, as he grew up through the mid sixties, 70's and somewhat early 80's. Avid guitarist, drummer and collector of around 800 vinyl records. Wall to wall.
About two years ago I asked him if he still had them.
"No, I dumped them in a skip when we were clearing out. I stream music now and other stuff I have on CD, they were just taking up space."
I was beyond pissed. All it would have took was an email "Hey, do you want this stuff?"
I had a similar experience in 1998. I had a neighbor with a large collection from the 70's and 80's that I always admired. One day I mentioned the collection and a neighbor told me that our neighbor had dumped it just a day or two before to make room for the new baby. I would have paid her for the collection and saved her from having to pay to have it hauled to the dump.
That’s a hate crime •0• my grandma lucky my grandma keeps hers in near mint condition just recently she pulled out a completely clean purple rain album.
WHAT A WASTE
I wanna meet these people who “need to get rid of” their collections. 😅😂 sweet vid!
I am
Sadly I think its often people moving home who need to downsize, people who really need the money, or from people who were recently deceased.
They never get rid of the good records tho
@@geddyleesowlnose unless it's not the original owner selling. in those cases they may even sold the collection from much less than what's worth.
@Milk mans Chum I’m putting some of my very rare elvis stuff at auction in September
I was watching this video in bed and when y'all started flipping through the vinyl I ran downstairs to see if my 3000+ records were still in the computer/record room. They were but I coulda swore it was my collection. Cheers from Washington State. K
I prefer quality rather than quantity!!
Same! I went from having 2000 records ... to just over 500.
He sells them in his shop, buying a huge collection is worth it for him because he can pick out what he wants “free” then sell off the rest for profit.
Man, this brought back memories of my old record collections from the 60s and 70s. The problem is where do you keep them all. But you don't get the same feel when you purchase a CD as vs an LP. You study the big jacket and cover and sometimes there's a lyrics sheet in the record. You just can't do that with a CD the same way. Also, when you were buying albums you got to hear a whole lot of different songs done by the group to get a better idea of where they were coming from. Not just buying the hits one by one.
He literally has the same taste as I do....70s & 80s rock n pop with a dose of soundtrack. Great find...
Damn! You could outfit a whole classic rock station with that haul - if they still existed.
they do still exist internet radio for all yopur rock needs
I've been all over the U.S. and there are still classic rock stations around . Why i don't know...there still lame .. play the same 200, 300 songs over n over
I literally fell in love with this collection because I am into 80s hard rock and metal 😁
Me too! I definitely wish I had that collection
He just skips over abbey road like it’s nothin jesus hahaha
Ive only ever seen two copies. I own one
Michael Brooker I’m from Liverpool so there a bit more common round here, but then again I’ve never seen a dark side of the moon
Rose-Camille Kasprzak what’s the other one
Rose what ones do you have
Rose-Camille Kasprzak suprised you haven’t got that one that’s easy to get hold of
that collection - Jeeze talk about a time and place. I can almost smell the stale beer, cigarettes and broken dreams wafting out of that collection.
I get a slight whiff of hash too.....:-)
Does anyone know if the film " Jackie Brown " had a soundtrack ? Vinyl or CD
Great stuff, sold my record collection many years ago to transform into the CD age. Still regret doing that. There is nothing better than hearing the warm cracking and pops and the actual motion in playing a record and staring at the album cover while listening to it. Thanks
I seen so many of the albums I have. Great taste from who ever you purchased them from. Thanks for sharing with us.
With that many records you’re sure to find a few Tijuana Brass grails.
Thanks for sharing!
hey they were pretty good.
if there's no Whipped Cream album, ...must be dead or in transition.
Or, if you’re lucky, some Johnny Mathis!!
I have few Tijuana herb brass
i’m 19 and have a few of my favorite hip hop records on vinyl. im a producer so i love sampling and getting inspiration from older records of any genre. really looking forward to expand my
collection to the likes of yours some day!
jive do you sample in mono or stereo??
there is a lot of great stuff to sample from back in the day. Fleetwood Mac, believe it or not. Listen to entire albums. Toni Basil's 'Hey Mickey', Pink Floyd's Money, Lot's of great bass riffs that stick in your head.
sampling is a fancy name for stealing
T ! Only if you tell people it’s your sample
Sampling can also be an art form
I play guitar and bass and some piano and I sometimes still find samples I like to use
I’ll add my own instrumentation to those samples.
T ! Tell that to all your favorite artists that sampled stuff aswell 😂
WOW, Jim what a great haul ! 2 conclusions--1. You've got a lot of sorting to do 2. You've got a lot of cash headed your way. Always look forward to your videos, because they are numero uno when it comes to interesting stuff.
My algorithm, designed through years of looking at collections, indicates that there is about 900 Herb Alpert records in there!
The stems and seeds of vinyl!
@Delling Conley haha! I have at least two copies of that!! 🤣
Half of which are "Whipped Cream And Other delights".
Just checked out your Vinyl Biography podcast on Spotify. Great stories. Looking forward to checking out the future podcasts.

Me: you just gonna hop right over Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Mob Rules?
#Triggered 😂
No doubt the Mob Rules goes for a lot I didn't see Sabbaths heaven and hell I wonder if he has that I paid $300 for my first pressing realease!!!!
That's awesome. So much good stuff in there. Even Queen's first album, The Game, Sheer Heart Attack. Queen's great. And some good Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, saw some Beatles. Quite the collection.
Definitely a middle-age white dudes collection.
Back when music was great....I think we should make music great again...
@@scottcassen3520 good luck with that, hard thing to do my friend
@@charlydelta802 I know.....labels used to have to scout, recruit, and invest a lot of money seeking out bands...with no guarantee of ROI.....now that people can create noise on there laptops and promote it effectively and cheaply......good music never stood a chance....at least in the main stream
Good on him! There will be some gold or rather black gold amongst that!!
Charly Delta anyone who claims there isn’t good music anymore isn’t looking hard enough, in fact I’d say that now that it’s easier for people to make music there is more good music being made then there ever has been
"everybody loves queen!...I wonder why!" Totally agree...I still wonder why
Because they're awesome ! That's why.
Queen is one of the best bands of all time
Never paid much attention to Queen back in the day...there were just so many good bands back then.
Always fun picking up big collection. Congrats my friend!
I'm a vinyl aficionado that enjoys vinyl! I have more than 300! I have a collection that spans from the 1950's-mid 1990's! Pop, RNB, jazz, smooth jazz, country, holiday, rock, adult contemporary, big band/swing, singers/standards, I have my own gramophone, my significant other has one too. I've listened to them myself for over more than 30 years!
I’m so freaking jealous
Dude !!! The "SMITHSONIAN " doesn't have a record collection like that. Awesome haul of great rock & new wave, ... Kudos to ya !!!
I would love to come across a collection like this and just spend a week going through it all.
This mirrors my experience. I bought a huge 2500 record collection from an estate sale in Connecticut. I live in Canada and it took me over a year to bring them back, from my friend’s basement. All of the records were European classical music and all of them in pristine condition. The owner had a great system and really cared for his gear. I haven’t had a chance to hear any more than 50 of the records (no matter how pristine they are, I only play them after they have been through the Okki Nokki treatment!)
Looks like boxes and boxes of stuff that will sell.
when your start up coll;ection is at 6 and then you see all these vinyl its both inspiring and intimidating
I am interested in the dryewater record. How much are you looking for?
8:10 crying at the Frehley’s Comet album!!!!❤❤️❤️❤️❤️
I can understand how this is overwhelming, but man I would have a blast digging through all that. I might have to ask you a couple prices, I see some things that i might be interested in.
I 100% agree!!!!!
first time chk you out. I'm looking for Jimmy Reed.
@@imakeslime3249 Jimmy Reed ! Love to have some of that.
That's a great collection. the condition is the rarity on most of these, I enjoyed watching the video! When pulling a record out of the sleeve, the best method open, reach inside the inner and place your two middle fingers on the label, tilt the sleeve UP (gravity assist) and the record "falls" on your thumb and fleshy base of the thumb...... no need to pinch the edge to pull it out, and this also causes the sleeve to stick to the record and causes surface scuffs. (they're inaudible but why make them?) This method I've shared needs just a few practices with a beat up record. Once you've got it. you'll never drop a record, never scuff the surface, and never leave a fingerprint! congrats brother!
3 Pink Floyd Albums and hes like "yea, some more essentials here" Oh yea XD he got it right
Quality or quantity what is the condition of the vinyl I could have played the numbers game but I always only ever bought clean vinyl and not smashed to bits records. There is no wrong or right just my opinion.
Back to The Future - some good Huey Lewis
I have also a larger record collection in my room I have to downsize them. I am 65 yrs and as i found out that no one seems to want them. They are good collections and originals and all in good condition. I do listen to them at times.
accumulate a list of what you have and I might be more than happy to throw some figures at you & I WILL NOT attempt to rip yourself off in aquiring your lp's-PLEASE Mr.BLOOM!!!

I hate it when people cherry pick the good stuff then bring me the 20 $1 albums and want $100 lol. You got a great haul bro
Mike Barooshian Yeah I wish I had that copy. I just ended up buying a newer release on vinyl. I do have a nice original copy of “Some Girls” and a copy of “Goats Head Soup” in great condition I bought at an old record store for a couple bucks back in like 2007. The orinal bill of sale from a local stereo store (Leo’s Stereo, long out of business) was in the sleeve and the original owner bought a couple good titles. I think he paid more than I did for it.
Wow Dillon, you are looking quite buff. Walking those 100s of boxes down three flights of stairs looks to be a great exercise workout lol. Wow nice stuff, too bad I can't hit your pop up store unless you come to Michigan. Steve
If you live long enough you may eventually get round to listening to every single track in your vinyl collection at least once.
LOTS of great rock, pop & metal albums including Def Leppard "High 'n' Dry" ! That is kickass!!
Look for Bon Jovi "Slippery When Wet" alternate cover with the chick with a "wet" yellow tank top - that's worth what you paid for the entire collection
Hey Brother, Awesome Collection, Good Job on finding those and getting a great deal. I wanted to make comment, you passed a Motley Crue Album, that was the Too fat For Love LP, Do me a favor and look and see what label it's on. If it's on Leathur Records then you have yourself a 200 plus dollar album. That was the original label they were on before signing to Elektra. The Leathur Crue albums are limited press. From the looks of the radio station label, that might be one of the original pressings.
Too fa(s)t For Love LP. not being a prick La Cosa Nostra" you passed a Motley Crue Album, that was the Too fat For Love LP"
I use to go to used record shops as a kind of therapy . Flipping through the selection looking for a gem . Always calmed me down
Frehley's Comet...KISS...Boston. Cool! :)
@Jim McCracken kiss is awful.
That's neat the Earl Ownsby. I know very little about his involvement in the music industry but I can tell you some interesting things about him. In the 70s and 1980s he produced a bunch of 3D films out of a studio facility that he owned in your area. It may still be there. Many of them are kind of forgotten about now. But he learned a lot about the technology and process of making these things. He became sort of a go to expert on the process of stereoscopic photography. So when the major studios were doing Amityville 3D and Friday the 13th 3D and the Man Who Wasn't There in 3D et cetera they went to Owensby as a technical adviser. Eventually a really amazing tribute was made to his name. A certain Michael Jackson short film directed by Francis Ford Copeland named Captain EO ... E O for Earl Owensby.. i have a couple of his 3D films in anaglyoh format. One ive never tracked down but remember seeing a teaser one sheet for a 3D release od was Hot Heir. I suppose an inheritance meets caper comedy involving hot air balloons. Rottweiler aka The Dogs of Hell is my favorite. Really microbudget things they are very cheesy fun.

Nice haul!!! I see so much stuff I could use. Get some rest after carrying all that down stairs, man I can’t imagine how your back feels
Casually flips through Queen’s first album 😩
I'm 21 and I just started collecting vinyl records, my first set (7 gospel records spanning from 1976-1985, 2 of them are contemporary gospel) is arriving sometime within the next week. Got my record player last week, mainly to help a family friend by dubbing a record to CD, which is a 16 RPM record on a 33 RPM player, so the help was that I slowed it by half, then dubbed it to CD. Anyway, collector age 21 here.
What's your age again ?
The Back To The Future soundtrack is such an awesome find!
Geezz...amazing collection. Original Halloween soundtrack...damn!...cant wait to travel to your store!
Interesting that you flicked past a lot of the classic British Rock n metal and the Southern Rock stuff that would be essential in any collection I might want. And you hovered spent a lot of time talking about stuff and referencing much that wouldn't be bothered about at all. So makes me think that once you've taken what you consider the cream out, there would be still a lot of really great vinyl left in there.
I dare say what we each would consider good or lame, would be somewhat different.
Killer stuff in there. I wanna get my hands on a lot of the 80s metal. Also, I totally pegged you as being from NC within a minute. I live / grew up around Asheville so I can tell these things haha.
Hey,you got a great find there!!that first beatles lp from before capitol got the licensing to release the albums in the u.s
I remember Beatles on Vee Jay & Tollie records.
@@mikemadden2729 yes!!i forgot the mame of the label!!
That LP was bootlegged like crazy and I can almost guarantee it is not original. I picked up my sealed copy 30 years ago at Woolworths of all places.
@Walrus Bellhop, I had Love Me Do & P. S. I Love You on Tollie 45s. Those might have been on one record, but I had 2 Tollie 45s of the Beatles. Yellow label with a simple square logo in black on one & a yellow label with a slightly fancier logo with a blue square on the other.
I am always amazed by the event that someone back in the day goes out to a record store. And buy a record and bring it home. Without playing it. And it's still unplayed.
Feels that record's was to cheep in the US those days?
Wowee. Records in my area are not very good and way overpriced. Rare anymore to find any $1 lps that are not Jim Nabors or Mormon Tabernacle choir.
Hipsters have destroyed records. It used to be something everybody could enjoy, now they have driven the prices of used lp's up so outrageously high because of their bullshit. It's scary what a short time frame they did it in too. I have two mono copies of the door's self titled debut album in excellent condition, I bought one in 2007 for $10 and and the other in 2010 for $8.50. These days you aren't going to find a copy in mono for less than $200. Once record store owners realized that hipsters will pay outrageous prices in order to turn record collecting from a hobby into an exclusive club, it was coast to coast. Sad state of affairs.
@@Terribleathletes Also with new releases, people price used records based off what a new one costs.
I'm a Hard Bop jazz collector. I'm used to paying a lot of money for vinyl.
I use Discogs to get my records, and in fact, my record collection's start (which is 7 gospel records at $3 each + no shipping) will be next week (should be between Monday and Thursday). 2 of them are even supposedly mint condition too.

Have fun cataloguing your collection! Setting up an inventory is important if you buy and sell. I had my collection on paper notebooks but found out that putting it on Microsoft word got rid of a lot of problems, as far as updating and searching, plus it is in a format easy to handle if you are trying to set up a business
Hey man. I'll buy that Gabor Szabo alum if you still have it.
I’m from gastonia and thought you sounded just like us on the first sentence out of your mouth! Good find brother! One of my employees just told me she let go of 2000 records right before I told her how I was getting into my tube amp and turntable setup again. I was so sad. I used to buy collections myself around about 2005 on ebay. Everybody was offloading their vinyls on ebay. Got some really good collections. It was a real buzz. Then after a few years it got harder to find good stuff. People got wise and vinyl has rebounded. This lot will keep you busy:)
Hey Dylan, how much do you want for that Pretty In Pink Soundtrack?
Amazing stuff! As soon as you said 80s metal I was hoping to see a Danzig album lol. Looks like everything was well kept and some double copies. Looks like a profit for sure! Best wishes!

Gabor Zsabo's Greatest Hits and Brittney Spears in the same box, that's pretty rad.
I was happy to see that Szabo record.
WOW! Really nice finds man.
I had a friend who got back into collecting vinyl, hitting up the few actual retail shops still operating, garage sales and Goodwill. He found some interesting things. One of the shops would just sell a box of about a dozen albums, sight unseen, for, a dollar or something. In one of these was an unlabeled LP in a plain white cover. He put it on and through the speakers comes the unmistakeable voice of Ethel Merman blasting through disco versions of signature songs like "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "There's No Business Like Show Business"...Turned out to be a test pressing of "The Ethel Merman Disco Album", which apparently was released in 1979 and became something of a collector's item. I don't know if he ever found out if it was worth anything.
Hope that is all on a solid ground floor... or your joists hangers may be about to go. 😂😂😂

I used to be a meter reader in the Midlands, England and one house I used to go to was owned by someone who had 5000+ records and due to the weight he had to make his cellar damp proof and put most of them down there. He had some really good stuff of all eras and music types though.
