    I'm not sure if it was due to my incompetence or not, but after I broke down and finally upgraded to the purchased (non-trial) version of the software, and went through your instructions for the 4th time it finally worked. And it worked perfectly!

    Hey David, Thank you for doing this tutorial. This is super helpful. Is it possible to use the iPad not as a separate display but to show the same image as on the main display, but flipped for teleprompter use? Would love to see a tutorial on this as well or short instructions. Thanks!

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick

      You're welcome, Josef! I THINK you can do what you're trying to do. After you get your virtual display set up, go to your Mac's display settings, select the virtual screen and change is from "Use as... Extended Display" to "Use as... Mirror for [your main display name]"
      The only issue I encountered is that the aspect ratio likely won't be the same on both your main display and your iPad, so things are going to look a bit off. And I tried to adjust the aspect ratio of the virtual display after the fact, but it made my computer do weird things. So you can at least get CLOSE. But I'll have to keep poking around and see if I can change the resolution without glitching.

      Hey, I poked around a little bit, but I don't use Duet, so I'm not positive what the solution is. Perhaps play around with Mac display settings, choose to mirror your primary display to a new virtual display, and flip that? Let me know if you figure it out!

    Found this, great thank you. I can not tell you how useful this video is to me. Love it. You mention having a dedicated small monitor, do you have any recommendations? i think I will get a small monitor, but I'm not sure which would work best? I am using Lensio as my teleprompter so the dedicated monitor would need to be quite small?

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick
      @SelfEmploymentSidekick  7 месяцев назад

      I'm glad the video was helpful. I don't have any monitor recommendations that I've personally tested (I did try one a while ago, but couldn't get it to work properly). I would say, if you're considering a dedicated monitor set up, you might want to look at the Elgato Prompter that was just released. It looks slick, simple, and doesn't cost too much more than buying a new teleprompter kit and monitor.

    Thanks for the update on the last video. Really helpful solution. I´m actual using a Ipad Pro 12,9 with a Neewer Teleprompter (for keeping eyecontact) combined with Sidecar and Better Display as Pro Version. The sidecar view is streamed to a virtual display and flipped, adapted resolution for better readability.
    During several Mircosoft Team videomeetings it´s showed multiple times a issue with freezing video signal while audio continued. I use a wired connection with my Mac Studio as you recommended. It´s really annoying during business team videomeetings if the screen freezes. Maybe it´s a Microsoft Teams problem, but i can´t figure it out/reproduce it

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick
      @SelfEmploymentSidekick  7 месяцев назад +1

      I'll experience freezing like this as well sometimes. I can't tell if it's an issue on the BetterDisplay side or with Sidecar. I'm leaning towards Sidecar, because that's dropped out or frozen on me before when BD wasn't active.

    • @holger_b

      @@SelfEmploymentSidekick Thanks for the answer, :-) I struggle now with another issue/challenge: in between i use a external usb-c display wired to the mac. Bought Better Display after the trial period and use it to stream the display to a virtual one. Mirroring it for readability. But now there is this strange behaviour: everytime i click on the main displays background, the choosed settings like mirroring the display seem to get deactivated and i fight with side-reversed settings for my mouse on the virtual screen.
      If i open Better Display and choose "stream virtual screen" again the pre choosed settings like mirrored view work and i can move the mouse in the natural flow on the screen of the physical usb-c display.. Don´t get it why this happens. A hassle free user experience is different :-)
      Edit: actually it seems to work after deactivating "keyboard control affects this display", "ddc control" "software based video adjustments" in the main display menu window

    Great video! Not sure if you could help me with this app, I'm currently not understanding how to change the input in the software for my external monitor, any help would be much appreciated 🙂

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick
      @SelfEmploymentSidekick  4 месяца назад

      Thanks!
      Hmmm... So to make sure I'm understanding your issue correctly, your monitor buttons are broken, so you have no way of switching inputs on the monitor itself?
      I'm not positive if this works (I've only ever tested one input for my monitor), but when you click the BetterDisplay icon in the tool bar, you should see a list of your available displays. Click on your external monitor to expand all of the settings, and then click "DDC Input Source." That should allow you to switch between HDMI, DP and any other available inputs.
      Let me know if that works!

    Thanks for the video. Even if I follow your steps one by one, where it stops working for me is when I try to stream the contents of the virtual display to the sidecar display. It simply won't let me select the "Sidecar Display" under "Stream Virtual Screen". I can mirror it, but not stream it. Not sure why that is, as this seems to work for you without any problems. But in the end, this prevents me from being able to mirror/flip my screen.

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick
      @SelfEmploymentSidekick  4 месяца назад

      Hmmm, sorry you're having issues getting this to work. Double check that 1) you are still connected to Sidecar (it has a tendency to drop out sometimes, especially if you're connected wirelessly), and 2) you are clicking "Stream Display" under the Teleprompter/Virtual display settings and not the Sidecar Display settings.
      What options do you see under "Stream the contents of this display to:"?

      Oh my ... I found the issue. It's rather embarrassing, as I sat there for 2 hours trying to figure it out yesterday.
      The software needed a full restart as I went straight from installing the software to testing and apparently, the OS permissions only took effect, after restarting BetterDisplay.

    How did your display name suddenly change to "Sidecar Display?" Should mine also change, or did you do that manually? When I get to 5:00, and try to set the virtual display to my iPad (not called Sidecar Display), it simply won't connect. Any ideas?

    • @SelfEmploymentSidekick
      @SelfEmploymentSidekick  2 месяца назад

      Jason, sorry you're having trouble.
      A couple things to check: After you connect your iPad to your Mac, check under your Mac's Display Settings and ensure the iPad is set to "Use as... Extended Display" (not "Default Display" or "Mirror").
      Between the native display settings and the BetterDisplay settings, there's a lot of little configurations to get everything working properly - I'm watching back through my video to see if I missed any steps. I honestly don't remember if I manually renamed the display or if that was the default. There have been a few minor software updates since I posted the video that may have affected that; I'm not positive.

      I glimpsed at Duet (and Luna Display), and they look nice. But I really only needed something to flip the screen. Sidecar already does 90% of what I needed; BetterDisplay gets me across the finish line (and without paying a subscription). Duet definitely is worth considering if you don't have a Sidecar-compatible device, or if you want to take advantage of some of its other features.

      Gotcha. So you're not mirroring content from a computer to your tablet. We just need to mirror-flip the tablet display, correct? If you are using this simply as a traditional teleprompter (for reading a script) there are dedicated teleprompter apps that will mirror flip the and auto-scroll the text. Here are some options: bit.ly/teleprompterapps
      If you're using it for a different use case and need the entire display mirror-flipped... I dunno, I'll poke around and let you know if I find anything.

How can this be resolved? My telepromoter just have a glass display, usually text or letters are reflected on a glass in a reverse unreadable format, I hope you understand what I'm saying.
